MoM: The Team

Scorers: Jamie Fox (1), Kieran Graham (2) William Burke (1)

Match Summary: Well done Nomads Under 8's. To finish 3rd from 8 in their group and 5th overall from 16 is a major achievement.

Unfortunately we weren't quite strong enough to reach the semi-final stage, but all players have a right to feel very proud of the team performance today. We were eventually only beaten by the odd goal in each game by the two teams who reached the semi finals Blacon Youth and Glenavon Hawkes.

A goal by Kieran Graham from a wicked corner in the first match secured the 3 points. Our other goals were scored by Jamie Fox and William Burke. Again our man between the sticks Matt Wilkes showed why he's our No. 1 with a string of fine saves, one of which was from a dubious penalty.

I would also like to thank the parents for their support, their were worth at least a few points over the day. Well done.

A game were Nomads scored 4 out of the 7 goals but found themselves on the end of a 3 goal defeat to a competitive Panthers side. Unfortunately 2 Jamie Fox goals were cancelled out by 2 unlucky own goals.

Nomads started slowly and found themselves 2-0 down in the first quarter. Nomads must learn to close down the ball when defending and challenge when the ball is free, too often today they were a slow second to the ball and found themselves defending in their own half for long periods..

The second quarter was much better, stronger challenges and our closing down was much quicker when the ball was free. Our improved performance was rewarded with a move very much from the training ground. Kieran Graham produced a lovely low cross from an excellent throw in by Jack Lappin which found Jamie Fox in the middle who scored a goal with a neat right foot shot.

Unfortunately we were unable to hold on to our lead for very long as again Nomads were caught in their own box and Upton went ahead 4-1. However, Nomads kept plugging away and Jamie Fox from another excellent pass from Kieran Graham planted a text book shot across the Upton Keeper from the edge of the box and found the bottom right hand corner. Nomads kept fighting until the end. The game held many plus points for the management team with excellent displays from Kieran Graham both in attack and defence and another 'full on' game from Luke Whittaker.

Competition: U8 Soccer Funweeks Division
Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U8s v Castrol Athletic
Result: 0-1
MoM: Luke Whittaker

Scorers:

Match Summary: Nomads deserved at least a point from this game if not all 3 points after having the lions share of possession against a competitive Castrol side. However, Nomads were unable to take advantage of their superior possession and field position and eventually were defeated 1-0.

We expected a competiitve game against a tall side from Castrol and that's exactly what we got, both sides were fully committed, however although the game was played with a competitve edge it was also played in a very good spirit by both sides. After hesitancy in the Nomads defence It was Castrol who drew first blood with a well struck shot from the edge of the box. 1=0.

We are now used to seeing Nomads qualities both in skill on the ball and in the mind, but the first 10 made me think we weren't perhaps at the races today. But happily I was glad to be proved wrong. Nomads took the game by the scruff of the neck after the break and apart from a few chances for Castrol, we dominated the game and with a little luck or the rub of the green here and there we could have run out convincing winners.

But it wasn't to be. It was just to be one of those day when the ball wouldn't fall in the right place for a open shot on goal. All wasn't lost though. A competitive game with some excellent tackles and slicing runs saw Luke Whiitaker awarded the man of the match.

Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U8s v Blacon Youth
Result: 2-3
MoM:

Scorers: William Burke, Louis Whittaker

Match Summary: Two closely matched sides played out a competitive game at Boughton Hall today. This game could literally have gone either way until Blacon with almost the final kick of the game grabbed the 3 points. Final score 2-3.

Another Day. Another Game. What a game we witnessed today at Boughton Hall. Two very equal sides went head to head on a magnificent surface watched once again by a sizeable crowd from both sides who played their part in what was in my opinion our best game of the season so far against strong opponents.

In the first 10 both teams attacked with purpose, but the forward advances were cancelled out by good work from both defensives and goalkeepers. However, one attack wasn't broken up and although Nomads had numbers back in defence it was Blacon who ended the half 1up after a smart strike on 6 mins.

Gone are the weaknesses of last year where Nomads may have concede again quickly, this year we are seeing real fighting qualities from the players all of them standing up to be counted and playing for each other, and we are certainly witnessing the beginning of a defensive partnership with Tim and Luke gelling into a strong unit which helped to keep the score at 0-1.

The 3rd quarter started badly for Nomads when Blacon doubled their advantage. Nomads only have themselves to blame though, with a combination of defensive lapses and missed tackles, that allowed Blacon to take control of the game. But Nomads quickly got themselves back in the game when a 'back pass' off Emily Tucker found William Burke just inside the Blacon area and he slotted home with a right foot drive. 1-2. Into the fourth quarter we went; could Nomads match last weeks thrilling finish? They were doing their best too. Following a nasty bang in the face from the ball Emily was replaced by Jack Lappin. Nomads pressed forward and were now the stronger side with wave after wave of attacks and they reaped the rewards of their efforts with an equalising goal from Louis Whittaker. However with time running out, there was to be a dramatic finish! Blacon broke away and Nomads were helpless to stop a Blacon shot that seemed to take an age to cross the line, but cross the line it did to give Blacon a 2-3 win. All was not lost though. An outstanding perfromance in goal once again from Mat Wilkes with reflex saves and brave stops, last ditch goal saving tackles from Luke Whittaker, improving play and good team work from Mark Cunnliffe, and solid performances once again from other team members. Keep training hard team. See you Monday.

Competition: U8 Soccer Funweeks Division
Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U8s v AFC Waverton Rockets
Result: 2-1
MoM:

Scorers: Jamie Fox, Kieran Graham

Match Summary: A step-up in class today in terms of the opposition saw Nomads struggle at times to contain a strong Waverton side. However, at 0-0 all was to play for going into the final quarter. However, with goals from Jamie Fox and Kieran Graham in a dramatic final 10 saw Nomads run out 2-1 winners.

After an emphatic win in last weekends fixture the players went into this game full of confidence and knowing exactly what level of performance was expected by the coaching staff and fans. What we witnessed though in the first 20 mins was a far cry from last weekend, with Nomads struggling to match a strong Waverton side for comittment in the tackle and winning of the ball.

However even taking into account their much higher percentage of possession and committment Waverton rarely threatened the Nomads goal, in fact, it was Nomads who came closest to opening the scoring when Mark Cunlifffe struck a solid shot from just inside the box which glanced the outside of the post. Hard Luck Mark.

As the game went on Nomads produced a much higher standard of football and with Luke Whittaker unleashed from his defensive duties they more competitive in the middle of the park and threatened the Waverton goal on 2 occasion but on both occasions Luke saw his shots drift wide.

So into the final 10. Would Nomads and Waverton settle for the 0-0 draw? What unfolded was quite dramatic. With Waverton players showing composure and individual skill on the ball Nomads failed to clear and Waverton found the back of the net 1-0. Would Nomads roll over and die? I'm glad to say didn't. Jamie Fox secured the equaliser with only 6 minutes remaining with a nice interchange on the left edge of the Waverton box and a sweet shot which found the top cornerof the goal. Nomads could now sense they were in with a chance of extending their winning run and pushed forward again this time from the opposite flank, Kieran Graham looked like her was going for the line to whip in a cross (but we all know Kieran prefers his left foot) so it was no surprise to see him cut back inside and unleash an unstoppable shot to secure the win. Final Score 2-1 Nomads.

MoM: The Team

Scorers: Kieran Graham (3), Jamie Fox (1), Louis Whittaker (1), Jack Lappin (1)

Match Summary: Nomads returned to action with an outstanding team performance away on a wet Autumnal day at Waverton. Nomads controlled the game with strong play and clinical finishing and run out 6-1 winners. A Day to remember for Kieran Graham with his first hatrick of the season and for Jack Lappin with his first goal in a Nomads Shirt. Other scorers included Jamie Fox, Louis Whittaker.

The game started early due to the early morning drizzle falling on a leafy pitch at Waverton. Nomads showed no ill effects to their 2 week layoff with a strong start against a Waverton side who were victors in this fixture last season and ended the quarter 3-0 up with goals from Kieran Graham, a Jack Lappin goal line strike from a Jamie Fox cross that evaded the Waverton Keeper and a Firm strike from Louis Whittaker.

Nomads failed to capitalise on their dominance of the first quarter and let Waverton back into the game with our failure to make solid clearances and tackles. Eventually Waverton secured a deserved goal when a corner was deflected past our keeper. The half ended 3-1 to Nomads.

After the break Nomads strengthened the side again and regained their dominance with some nice passing between Kieran G and Jamie Fox the ball broke to Jamie F in the box and a sweet left foot shot found the bottom corner of the Waverton Goal. Likewise, Kieran G secured his second again after some nice football from a confident Nomads side.

Nomads were able to ring the changes in the final quarter, pushing Luke Whittaker forward into Midfield and bringing William Burke back into the defence. These changes paid off when a strong run from Luke Whittaker found Kieran Graham free on the edge of the box to slide the ball home for his third of the game and to give Nomads a convising 6-1 victory. Thanks to the travelling fans who were soaked to the skin by the final whistle for their support of the team. Next fixture Home to Waverton Saturday 10th November.

Competition: U8 Soccer Funweeks Division
Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U8s v Westminster Park Tigers
Result: 4-2
MoM: The Whole Team

Scorers: William Burke, Jamie Fox, Louis Whittaker, Kieran Graham

Match Summary: Super Nomads!! A competitve game played by two equally matched sides, ended with the Nomads coaching staff on a high with a 4 goal haul which included some classy passing, tough tackling and a goal from the halfway line. Well Done Nomads.

Nomads approached this game with optimism after their 2-2 draw of the previous week, but they were forced to make late changes in their defence after Tim Jago was unable to make the game. In the early stages the change in defensive personnel looked like it might unsettle Nomads when Tigers opened the scoring with a goal that was more down to Nomads inability to clear the ball from their own box than Tigers' attacking prowess. We were forced to change the defence again when Matthew Wilkes was injured following a fine save, he was replaced in goal by Emily Tucker who herself made some telling saves.

However, the defensive changed weren't to prove costly because Nomads bounced straight back when Williams Burke scored a goal straight from the training ground, 2 passes saw the ball travel the length of the pitch to be met by the new recruit who finished cooly passed their keeper. Before the break Nomads managed to double their lead. Again after a nice build up Jack Lappin just found the goalkeeper between him and his first goal, unfortunately for Jack Tigers got men back but he persisted and eventually the ball found its way across the box where The Fox pounced and bagged his second goal of the campaign.

The second quarter saw Nomads back to full strength with Matthew recovered from his injury. However after the excitement of the 1st quarter the next 10 was a quieter affair with both sides sparring with each other. Again Nomads allowed Tigers back into the game in the 3rd quarter with some sloppy defending which allowed the Tigers No 9 to twist and turn in the box before the ball was prodded home to level the scores 2-2. A new inner belief of this Nomads Team saw them respond in fine fashion. This coupled with a much more diciplined display by Louis Whittaker saw him edge Nomads in front again towards the end of the quarter when he too scored his 2nd of the season.

Nomads had been in similar positions to this last season, but, through a combination of factors had let the lead slip and points were dropped. But this side is now learning to play for each other and the result was never in doubt, when arguably, with the goal of the game, Kieran Graham scored from the halfway line with a sweetly struck lob over the Tigers' keeper. Nomads Management were delighted with the improvement seen right across the squad. In particular the partnership of Mark Cunliffe and Luke Whittaker in defence supported each other and both showed great improvement and contributed to the game. Have a good break but remember today as the day we started to play football the correct way.....as a team.

Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U8s v Elton JFC (A)
Result: 2-2
MoM: The Whole Team

Scorers: Jamie Fox, Louis Whittaker

Match Summary: Nomads posted their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw away at Elton. Nomads Goalscorers: Jamie Fox, Louis Whittaker.

Nomads needed to bounce back with a good team performance after their defeat to Vicars Cross of a week ago. Nomads started competitively and both sides shared possession which saw the first quarter end all square..

Nomads were rocked mid way through the second quarter when Elton secured two quick goals. But, Nomads didn't panic and they maintained their shape and structure which eventually paid dividends when a well worked move involving a number of players saw Jamie Fox hit the back of the net with a lovely strike inside the oppositions area from a measured pass from Louis Whittaker.

A reduced squad saw our Goalscorer take his turn in goal. A determined 10 mins from both sides saw the score stay 2-1 in favour of Elton.

Could Nomads push forward in the final 10 and get the goal/s to secure a draw or even the win? Nomads pushed forward at every opportunity but for every attack they lauched, Elton had an attack of their own which produced a very exciting period of play, that was appreciated by the spectators. Eventually Nomads made the break through, when, in his own style Louise Whittaker smashedt the ball home to secure the point. Although a very good team performance, there was a number of individual performances that stood out, Jack Lappin is staring to contribute more in each game (keep trying Jack that goal will come), Kieran Graham still producing a high level of performance (think about the passing Kieran) and good workman like performances from William Burke and Luke Whiitaker. Well done to the whole team. Thank you to the supporters again.

Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U8s v Malpas JFC
Result: 1-2
MoM: Not Nominated

Scorers: William Burke

Match Summary: A game of two halves saw Nomads kick-off the new season in this friendly fixture against Malpas JFC with a 1-2 scoreline.

It certainly was a game of two halves in this opening fixture against a well organised Malpas side. Nomads showed a certain rustiness after the summer break and found themselves on the wrong end of a 2 goal deficit after 20 mins.

However, the team showed the coaching staff that all had not been forgottten over the short break and game out and showed a fighting display and were unlucky not to draw level by the final whistle. Our summer recruit William Burke scored Nomads goal with a smart swivel in the box and slotted the ball inside the left hand post.

Some good performances for this stage of the season and improvement on last season from all the squad, but with fine save after fine save (which kept us in the match), special priase from this match has to go to Matthew Wilkes.

Next Friendly against Shotton JFC - Saturday 15 September 2007 - KO 11am.
