Result: 3-2
Scorers: Ap Gareth (1), Saul (1), Chambers (1)
MoM: Pickering
Match Summary: An extremely entertaining game at Waverton saw Nomads run out 3-2 winners, courtesy of a goal apiece from Ap Gareth, Saul and Chambers. Nomads, having been 1-0 down recovered well to finsh their league campaign on a high.
In boggy conditions Nomads aquitted themselves well but fell behind to a well taken Waverton goal which many had felt should and could have been cleared earlier.Luckily it didn`t take long for the lads to hit back and when we did it more than matched our opponent`s finish. Ap Gareth fired in a screamer from a free kick from the edge of the area. 1-1, game on!!
The first twenty minutes saw a further well taken goal from Saul send us in at half time 2-1 up. The first half had seen us put together some good moves but we were tending to be over elaborate in our play especially in the central , muddy areas where chances could not be taken!!
The scond half was as action packed as the first with Nomads pegged back a second time with a goal inside the first five minutes due to lack of concentration!! Luckily cometh the hour, cometh the man in the shape of Danny Chambers who converted what turned out to be the winning goal!!!
In summary, from front to back we were solid. Carey handled extremely well in very difficult circumstances and made a match winning save in the closing minutes. Walker, Bilsland and Chadwick were calmness personified at the back. In midfield, Saul and Baird played very well and worked tirelessly throughout. Up front, Ap Gareth, Chambers and Pickering were a constant threat. Pickering grabs the MOM award for a series of flicks, touches and turns that had him, the opposition and all the watching parents confused and excited in equal measure!! There is no strength in the rumour that Liam Walsh merely turned to bag his annual lift to the Chester Half Marathon off the coaches wife!! I am reliably informed he had in fact come to watch the match!! Well done everyone, do the semi finals await.....?!!

Match Summary: A hugely enthralling game at Boughton Hall was settled by a solitary strike from MOM Baird in the 16th minute. From front to back and back to front the Nomads were inspired and finally got their season back on track after stuttering of late.
Make no mistake this was mini football at it`s finest with both sides equally committed to attacking football. The competitiveness that was sorely lacking in recent weeks re emerged against a Christleton side determined to fight for every ball. Carey, in goal, made a series of quality saves to keep his side in the game and was one of the contenders for MOM.
Bilsland, playing despite a troublesome ear infection, gave a typically tenacious display in defence. Walker, when he was brought on, was both composed and determined. Chadwick had another terrific game and continues to go from strength to strength (another strong contender for MOM).
In midfield Baird and Saul harried the opposition all match and acted as a good springboard for attacks. Baird`s goal in the first half was a reward for his perserverance, even though his Dad`s pockets are a little bit lighter as a result!! Up front, Ap Gareth (another playing through the pain barrier!!), Chambers and Pickering kept the defence troubled. Pickering had the chance on a couple of occasions to put the game beyond Christleton`s reach but was determined to keep the match interesting for all concerned!!!
One match to go against Waverton and things finely balanced!! Hopefully the lads can finish the season strongly like they were asked to do by Coach Carey. The events of the next few weeks should prove interesting!!

Match Summary: An out of sorts Nomads team sucumbed to two sloppy goals, one in each half, to a strong Newton side. Few players emerged with much credit but the defensive pairing of Chadwick and Mom Bilsland personified the grit and the determination that Coach Carey was looking for from the whole squad.
The first half saw lots of Nomads possession but no real penetration as Newton, despite the wind in their favour, were pegged back in their half for long periods of the game. The pitch size played a great part in the game with most of the play condensed in the middle third of the pitch and strikers being too exhausted to shoot when they got near the goal!!
Carey allowed his concentration to slip and was punished when a shot from the Newton striker went over his body to give the opposition the lead on 16 minutes. This turned out to be a real sucker punch, coming at the end of a half that I felt we shaded.
The second half saw the team against the wind again dominate with Newton looking the more likely of the teams to add to their score which unfortunately they did on 34 minutes to seal their win. It turned out to be a really poor ending to the match with few players prepared to match the opposition in terms of determination. I was very disappointed due to the fact that the lads had looked sharp in training where we had focussed on passing, communication and teamwork. A behind the scenes friendly is scheduled for Monday at Colliers Park with Nomads will look to get back to winning ways!!!

Result: 1-0
Scorers: Jack Pickering (1)
MoM: J.Saul
Match Summary: A real battling performance by the Nomads against a very spirited Castrol side who never stopped fighting from the first minute until the last. A solitary strike from MOM James Saul was enough to decide the match. The goal was the end product of the best move of the game.
This was a must win game given the two previous losses in the cup competition. To be fair to the lads, although nerves were jangling on the line they kept plugging away and never gave up hope that they would get their just deserves! Castrol made life difficult for us and showed our lads the competitive edge that is required.
Defensively, I thought that Bilsland, Walker and Chadwick were solid and didn`t allow any threat to Carey`s goal who spent most of the game as a spectator!! In midfield we matched Castrol with Saul, Baird and Chambers performing well. Saul and Pickering were effective in their use of the ball, dribbling to good effect and passing well.
Up front, Ap Gareth, Dixon and Chambers/ Pickering worked tirelessly for the cause. Although we had to wait a long time for the goal, when it came it was a real beauty. Coming at the end of the best move of the game Saul took the chance with real aplomb!! Just like the busses we then could have doubled our lead within two minutes!
In summary, a good win for the lads. We not only dominated the match but, unlike previous matches, got the result that we`d wanted. Well done to all concerned and many thanks to Ref, Mr Pickering who being a regular attender at the Reebok was able to spot all and any different type of foul play and deal with it straight away!!

Result: 1-4
Scorers: Saul (1)
MoM: Saul
Match Summary: Oh dear! Where to begin, all the action took place in the first and last ten minutes of this game played in a good, competitive manner by both sides. An early goal by MOM, James Saul did not result in the team kicking on with Nomads succumning to three late goals that gave a slightly distorted picture to the game.
Nomads started brightly with the passing being of good quality and chances being created. Saul, who had a cracking game throughout, finished well to put Nomads ahead in the first five minutes. The next few minutes saw Blacon mount some pressure that resulted in a goal. Nomads had several chances to take the lead but a combination of poor finishing and good defending kept us out.
Carey made a fine save from a rare Blacon attack and it remained 1-1 at the interval. The second half saw a good performance from Walker coming back, courageously, from taking a blow to the face. Ap Gareth, along with Saul, worked tirelessly for the cause to try to push the team on but all to no avail!
Blacon pushed forward and seized upon a misplaced pass to finish cooly past the onrushing Carey. Whilst pushing up Nomads were hit by two late sucker punches that were harsh on a side that though below par were not three goals worse off than their opponents, Credit must go to Blacon who showed our lads that you have to take your chances when they are presented to you and kept going from the first to the last minute. So, very much like one of my old school reports, good but better results will come from more sustained concentration and better application!!

Result: 3-1

Match Summary: A very entertaining friendly match played at Gresford between two very evenly matched sides was settled by three Nomads strikes halfway through the second half. Waverton replied with a cracker in the last few minutes that Carey did well to get a hand to but couldn`t get enough on it to prevent it going in the top corner.
The first twenty minutes of the game saw both defences on top with the eagerly awaited arrival of Bilsland well worth the wait, never allowing the opposition time to settle on the ball!! Chadwick worked well in tandem with him, denying the opposition space and distributing the ball well. In midfield, the partnership of Chambers and Baird worked tirelessly throughout and Baird bagged the first goal after twenty nine minutes.
Up front Ap Gareth and Dixon made the mistake of sticking too close together in the first half. However, in the second twenty minutes they caused the opposition more problems and stretched the defence well. Dixon went close on several occasions and Ap Gareth scored a brace, one of which was an absolute beauty!
In summary a really useful workout before a tough encounter on Saturday at Blacon which I am sure will test the boys. It was a pleasure to play a game tonight where all the boys were committed and both sets of coaches and parents didn`t lose sight of what we are trying to achieve (a lesson to be learnt for some of our more myopic opposition perhaps?! ). Well done boys, onward and upward!!

Match Details: (A) Chester Nomads U9s v Upton
Result: 2-3
Scorers: Ap Gareth (1), Chambers (1)
MoM: D. Chambers
Match Summary: A really entertaining match was settled by an Upton goal scored with a few minutes to spare thus bringing to an end the unbeaten run of matches. Ap Gareth and Chambers both weighed in with two superby taken goals which looked to have gained a draw, which was the least the lads deserved for their efforts, before the heartbreak of the last few minutes!!
The first quarter saw Nomads on the backfoot as Upton made a really bright start. Carey made a couple of routine stops before pulling off an absolute blinder (Jim Montgomery 1973 anyone ?!) to prevent an opening Upton goal. However, a rush of blood to the head (possibly still adrenaline filled?! ) led to a goal kick being passed straight to the opposition who gleefully took advantage.
As the game wore on Nomads begin to assert their dominance and Ap Gareth`s clinical strike was just reward. The Upton keeper then had to prove his mettle by pulling off a series of saves that kept his team in it. Then, as so often happens in this circumstances, pushing up led to a quick counter attack with a shot that Carey did really well to push away. Unfortunately, no one was following up from Nomads to help the exposed keeper and the Upton forward nodded home!!!
Nomads kept pressing and you got the feeling that something had to give. Chambers, MOM for his tireless running and commitment throughout, burst through and scored a smashing equaliser. Surely that was that and the draw could be held up as a "fair" result?! But no, in the last couple of minutes an Upton strike took a wicked deflection and although Carey got a hand to it (fair play to him, diving one way and then suddenly twisting the other!!) and stopped it, the perfectly placed referee and Upton goalkeeping coach awarded a goal. unfortunately, Nomads didn`t have enough time to draw level.
In summary, the lads were great today all the way through the team. The defence of Carey, Chadwick and the returning Walker were immense and can be rightly proud of themselves. The midfield of Saul, Chambers and Captain Baird came off the pitch knowing they couldn`t have given any more. Up front, Ap Gareth, Dixon and Pickering worked tirelessly for the cause and didn`t deserve to be on the losing side. The analagy of bacon and eggs springs to mind. The chicken is involved but the pig is committed!!!! Today, Nomads weren`t just involved in the game they were totally committed. This hints at a very bright future for a set of lads with whom it is a pleasure to be involved in. Next up Waverton, a score to settle (!!!) and the return of "Captain Marvel" himself!! Book your seat for the return of the boy Bilsland!!

Match Summary: This eagerly awaited derby match produced an entertaining spectacle and was keenly contested by two competitve sides throughout. The real damage was done to the Colts in the first 20 minutes when they conceded four without reply. A fifth goal in the second half when the colts were committed to all out attack resulted in the win being sealed. The quality of play on offer from both sides hints at a bright future for the club.
An early goal from Dixon, in the first minute, eased any nerves that Nomads may have had going into this match. Nomads controlled the early stages and went further ahead in the sixth minute with a goal from Ap Gareth. Pickering and Baird then added further goals to put Nomads 4-0 up at the break, a reflection upon the pass and move strategy that Coach Carey had instilled in the troops!!
Coach Bolton had obviously pepped up the Colts with his half time team talk (although no tea cups or hairdryers were in evidence !) as they came out all guns blazing. Nomads stayed very tight at the back where Chadwick and Saul (MOM) were outstanding. The passing and movement of the team was very pleasing on the eye and with five minutes to go Pickering scored a lovely goal rounding the keeper after a series of passes had carved up the opposing defence.
This was a very good win with all the lads working hard throughout. The forwards, Dixon, Ap Gareth and Pickering were a constant menace. The midfield of Baird and Chambers was composed and effective all game. Defensively Chadwick, Saul and Carey secured another fine clean sheet.
Well done boys. Competition for places will be as keen as ever next week as Walker and "bite yer legs" Bilsland will be back!!

Result: 7-0

MoM: Chadwick
Match Summary: A solid win from Nomads against spirited opposition. The longer the game wore on the more the lads pressed home their advantage. 2-0 at half time became 7-0 at full time as a result of excellent team work and all in front of "Captain marvel" Bilsland who is currently the team mascot!!
The first half saw Nomads have the lion`s share of possession but, frustratingly, not being able to convert! Several chances went begging until Ap Gareth finshed off a flowing move, converting after 11 minutes. Pickering added another, in the next minute, thus "christening" his new boots in the process!!
Whilst pushing forward, Nomads had to be careful that they didn`t leave themselves exposed at the back and Carey was called upon to make three excellent saves in a game where he was a virtual spectator throughout. MOM Chadwick performed really well at the back and stuck to his task throughout well, showing great discipline.
The goals flowed in the second half with our opponents having to contain an attack of Pickering, Baird, Willliams and Ap Gareth who combined really well! Williams had an excellent debut, showing some good touches, scoring a brace, displaying a great turn of pace and a rather fetching "footballers haircut"!!
Baird helped himself to a brace sending all his fan club home happy! Ap Gareth capped a fine performance with two goals of his own and linked up well with his team mates. Saul combined both defending and attacking well and curbed his natural instinct to go forward well. I was extremely pleased with the team`s application today and next up is the eagerly awaited local derby against Nomads Colts with the local Police pushing for an early ko to avoid any crowd control problems!! There is no strength in the rumour that certain Colts players have been attending Monday night training in order to glean information from their opponents!! Coach Bolton denies all knowledge of any dossier having been drawn up from his "inside information" !! No news from the Walkers, hopefully the safari week has passed off without incident, especially with Daniel`s new found pace!!!

Match Summary: Oh controversy, controversy!! This fourty minutes of youth football had more controversy than a controversal controversy from controversial town!! Two `phantom` goals (where`s a Russian linesman when you need one!!), a broken arm injury and a Nomads equaliser in the 48th minute of injury time!!! Happy new year anyone?!
Both teams competed well on a manicured surface (complements to Loic Gresty our resident groundsman for preparing a surface that suited our fast bowlers!!) with the first half featuring twenty minutes of football that ebbed and flowed with chances being created at both ends. Astras took the lead with a rather fortuitous goal straight from their corner. But to their credit, Nomads refused to give up and no quarter was given. Referee Baird had a superb game, allowing the game to flow at all times and some of the football played by both sides was a joy to watch.
Come the second half and cue the controversy! Ap Gareth and the rest of the Nomads line were bemoaning the lack of goal line technology when his `goal` was chalked off by the `assistant referee` behind the goal. Mr Dixon found himself slapped with a leather glove and challenged to a duel at dusk with muskets drawn when he raised an objection!!
Then disaster, Bilsland (enjoying one of his typical ` Captain Marvel` displays!!) was injured in a fall and rushed to A and E where it was later revealed he had suffered a broken wrist. We wish him well. The club are currently investigating the possibility of investing in an oxygen tent to speed up his recovery!! Coach Carey wasted no time post match in plugging the gap caused by this injury, Dixon`s thearetical excursions next week and Walker`s South African warm weather training (faturing amongst other things sprinting against Cheetahs) by signing Danny Williams (as sponsored by Abra Hairdressing) on a `as and when` contract for January!! The second half featured another `goal` that ref Baird was confident not to award (although he couldn`t `rely` on his assisstant ref for this one!) to Astras. Then the goal!! With the match now requiring floodlights due to it`s over running, up popped Ap Gareth to head home a Dixon `special` from the corner spot with almost the last touch of the game!!
In summary the team performed really well and to come out of this with nothing would have been a complete injustice. Captain Carey was solid in goal and was well protected by excellent showings by Chadwick (coming off his `sick bed` to compete) and Bilsland (before his untimely departure). In midfield, Saul and Baird supported the attack well and stood up to the `challenge ` posed by the Astras midfield! Up front Ap Gareth, Pickering and Dixon posed a constant threat and the workrate of all three was good to see. The omnipresent Ap Gareth just edges the MOM award, although to be fair he was pushed all way by several candidates.
So we begin the new year in fine form which I hope we can take into next week`s game at Tattenhall. The club and Police have designated this as a Catergory B game and season ticket holders are reminded that they will require voucher c from their book to be eligible for a ticket.

Result: 1-3

Match Summary: Nomads confirmed that we really do become England whenever we are called upon to play friendlies!! Waverton proved to be stiff opposition and frustrated us when we were attacking and hit us on the break far too often when we were defending.
For a large part of the game, especially the firtst two quarters we seemed to lay siege to the Waverton goal and it would not have flattered us to go three or four nil up. However, a combination of poor finishing and effective goalkeeping kept Waverton in the game. Sure enough the old adage of not scoring when you`re on top came back to haunt us with Waverton opening the scoring from a half cleared free- kick.
The third quarter saw us draw level with a goal straight off the training pitch with Baird heading a Dixon corner straight in the net (when I say "straight off the training ground I mean the deliveries from Dixon and not from Coach Chadwick!!). Strangely, this did not act as a launchpad for the victory which we`d all been hoping for!!
Waverton won the ball far too easily and launched a series of quick and effective counter attacks that resulted in two goals being put past an exposed Bilsland and Carey. To be far had it not been for a series of important stops from our keeper the damage could have been a lot worse!
In summary, on another day I would like to think that Lady Luck would shine upon us. I do think that we became more and more frustrated as the game went on and got sucked into desperately seeking a goal and leaving huge gaps that Waverton then exploited. Saturday has to see a return to better passing and understanding of when to release the ball and not take an extra touch (something that was very obvious today). Carey wins the MOM award purely on the basis that he didn`t do anything wrong!! Although I was tempted to go along with Jack`s post match comment that we should just give it to Daniel Walker because he wasn`t there!! It doesn`t do a team any harm whatsoever to lose once in a while provided they correct their mistakes the next time they play. Saturday, 10 am would be a good time to put that into action!! Come on the Nomads!

Match Summary: An excellent team performance by Nomads who dominated from start to finish. Strikes from Ap Gareth and Dixon (boy that lad can hit a ball!!) sealed it. The team passed their stern test with flying colours!!
Defensively, little got past the determined Walker (father, a lovely fella operates out of Fields Physiotherapy practice, Hough Green!!),Bilsland and Chadwick who never panicked and always looked to play their way out of trouble. When they did GK Carey remained focussed keeping out anything thrown at him and, was I felt, very unlucky with the goal conceeded which seemed to be within his grasp (yet to view the monitor but will be happy to go with Ref Pickering`s verdict, who contrary to other people`s comments had an excellent game!!).
Midfield was where the game was won and I felt the pairing of Saul and Baird were immense. When defending they were tight to their man and didn`t allow him time or space. When attacking they always looked to play the correct pass. They were never intimidated and rarely flustered.
Up front Pickering got up from his sick bed to deliver an excellent performance that was characterised by him getting forward at every opportunity. Dixon got out of his bed after his mammoth sleepover and, thankfully, had enough in the tank to get the winner!! Ap Gareth was omnipresent linking well with his fellow strikers at one point and then, in the blink of an eye, popping up to help out the defence the next!
Being in charge of the lads on Saturday was an absolute pleasure and I began proceedings by saying that there are three types of football team : teams that make things happen, teams that watch what happen and teams that wonder whats happened. Today we witnessed a team that was determined to make things happen and for that boys we salute you!!

Match Summary: A match played out in dreadful conditions was won by a determined Nomads team. Goals by Dixon (2), Ap Gareth (1) and a rather fortunate own goal sealed the win against a very dogged Helsby side.
The pitch was a great leveler allowing as it did little margin for error. Too often when the ball should have been released an extra touch was taken. Too often when a simple pass would have released a player in space we allowed a Helsby outfit, who were quicker to the ball, to snuff out the chance.
The attacking pair of Dixon and AP Gareth took their limited chances well and the team were once again indebted to an excellent point blank save by Carey at 2-1 up in the second half. As so often happens, after this save we had our best spell of the game where our passing began to bear fruit and we finished the game stronger.
On a positive note the unbeaten run continues and it was a chance to shake off the cobwebs and put down a good psychological marker by topping the league. It is also an indicator of a good side if they can play badly yet still win. I think a lot of the blame for the below par performance can be attributed to the weather and a very quick surface (rather than ineffective coaching obviously!!).

Scorers: Baird (1), Chadwick (1), Pickering (3), Ap Gareth (1)

Match Summary: A very convincing win by a determined under 9`s team intent on bouncing back from their disappointing performance prior to the international break. Goals by Baird (1), Ap Gareth(1), Chadwick (1) and MOM, Pickering (3) sealed a convincing win.
On arriving at Malpas Coach Carey was met by Dr. Walker informing him that it was "cold as ice" and that it was "urgent" that we got the match started!! And started we did! The passing in the first ten minutes was excellent and the only disappointing aspect of it was that over elaboration led to no goals being scored.
To give the lads credit, they continued in the same vein. Never allowing the opposition to settle when they had the ball and immediately springing defence into attack when we gained it back. Defensively, Walker, Chadwick and Bilsland were superb and made certain that Carey was a virtual spectator (albeit a very cold one!!) for forty minutes. Chadwick even managed to bag a goal on one of his many "Beckenbaeuresque" (copyright Carey 2007) forays forward!
In the midfield the boy Saul won the ball well and passed even better and was extremely unlucky not to open his account. Baird was his usual economical self, distributing the ball well , breaking up the oppositions` attacks and scoring a good goal himself. Pickering had an excellent game and deserverdly won the MOM award scoring three smashing goals with his uncanny knack of arriving late to devastating effect!
In attack, Dixon and Ap Gareth were a constant threat up front and defended from the front well with Ap Gareth finishing off a flowing move to claim our third goal. In summary, a really pleasing squad performance that assures us of a place in the cup competition. Well done boys!!

Dixon scored in our first attack with a trademark thunderbolt into the top corner and Ap Gareth settled the issue in the last minute with a header from a corner, this time Dixon turning provider. Newton proved to be a much sterner opposition than our previous encounter and complacency on our part was a real issue throughout.
Positives to come from the match were Walker`s MOM performance (determination personified) in midfield, Carey`s incredible point blank save (that kept us in the game when the sides were level)and a promising debut from our new boy, Saul in midfield.
All in all a very frustrating match with few individuals emerging with credit. The old adage of a team playing badly and still winning never rang truer!!!

Match Summary: A very professional performance from the Under 9`s against a spirited Saughall team. Nomads controlled the game from start to finish, only losing their shape (and concentration) once to allow the visitors to grab a consolation.
The first ten minutes saw a flurry of goals with Ap Gareth settling any nerves by notching in the first, sixth and seventh minutes. Bilsland then, of all people, surged forward to grab the fifth!!! Pickering added a brace with some assured finishing. The team relaxed a little and began passing the ball around with confidence and accuracy. Half time was really a case of letting the players know to keep concentrating as Saughall had just pulled a goal back.
The second half then saw a further four goals added with Walker completing a hat trick begun with our seventh goal in the first half and Ap Gareth and Dixon completing the scoreline with a goal apiece.
In summary, a real good performance by the Nomads. Against a less competent visiting keeper the score could have been a lot higher. Dixon and MOM Ap Gareth ran their socks off all game and were a constant danger to the opposition`s defence. Pickering, Walker and Baird controlled the midfield and their tackling and passing were excellent. Chadwick, Bilsland and Carey were solid in defence and joined in attacks well.
From a personal point of view it was pleasing to have so many different goalscorers (5) and teamates looking to help one another. Next up it`s Newton on Saturday, 10am kick off at would should be a packed Boughton Hall. Match Summary: A really entertaining game of football down at HQ with Nomads gaining revenge for the defeat suffered at the hands of the same opposition at the start of the season. An early thunderbolt from the boy Dixon settled the nerves and prepared the crowd for a really solid performance from the under nines.
The defence of Carey, Bisland and Chadwick was calmness personified with only a couple of lapses in concentration allowing Upton to have a realisic goalscoring chance. When we finally did conceed it was through overplaying and, to be far, the strike was a fine one.
The midfield trio of Pickering, Walker (with shiny new boots, no less!!) and Baird really took the ball to the opposition and matched them in all areas. It is also pleasing to report that there was only one reported sighting of a Pickering injury (and one "nutmeg") on Saturday. It is rumoured that his fathers recent inclusion in Cheshire Life has led to Jack being inundated with offers to take up Polo, Equestrian and Bridge but Coach Carey has been assured that Jacks` future lies with the Nomads!!!!!
The forwards, Dixon , Ap Gareth and King kept the opposition second guessing all morning. Ap Gareth`s intelligent running and positional sense led to him scoring two virtuoso goals. Dixon`s two wonder strikes were delivered with both venom and accuracy. These led to him being made MOM. The second strike was Nayimesque in it`s execution coming as it did from the halfway line!!!
In summary, an excellent squad performance that vindicates all the hard work done on the training pitch. All we need now is the same consistency in the rest of our group games to see us through to the cup. Also all players must remain injury free, mind you can`t imagine anyone would be daft enough to incur a serious injury can you............................................................................?!

Scorers: Ap Gareth (1), Baird (1), Pickering (1)
MoM: C. Bilsland
Match Summary: Lovely day and a great game of football. Both sets of players were honest, committed and hard working, values that both clubs hold dear. Dav...sorry Richard Baird gamely volunteered to ref and was allowed to do exactly that with both sets of parents allowing him to get on with it whilst enjoying the spectacle before them.
Two early goals scored by Ap Gareth and Baird in the first quarter settled the nerves and capped some fine passing from the under 9`s. The team relaxed in the second quarter and were nearly made to pay for it but for a couple of fine saves from the boy Carey. One save in particular had obviously been honed on the training pitch of Delves Walk!!
Defensively, we were rock solid and stuck to our task throughout.MOM Bisland was immense and simply would not allow them through!! Chadwick was adopting a more libero approach to his role, obviously keen to open his account for the season!! Pickering was energy personified, although there were a few "Bryan Robson" moments that gave the physio cause for concern!! Jack always listens intently to his Dad`s instructions and so it came to pass that when Darryl was urging him to cross, Jack thought better of it, swung a leg at it and hey presto 3-0!!! Baird had an excellent game, passing well and linking well with the attack.
Dixon and Ap Gareth caused problems all game for the opposing defenders and used the space well. To be fair to them they should have scored more but the fact is they never stopped working. E.J. applied some nice touches to the approach play when he came on and now needs to work on his tackling to bring his game on.
In summary a really good team performance that vindicates the hard work, committment and effort put into the team.

Match Details: (A) Chester Nomads U9s v Newton Ath Eagles
Result: 5-0
Scorers: Lee (2), Dixon (1), Ap Gareth (2)
MoM: Lee
Match Summary: The nomads recorded their second win on the road against a spirited Newton team. A flurry of goals in the first effectively sealed the win with two lovely strikes from the boy Lee and an effort from Dixon sending us in at the interval 3-0 up.
The middle two periods saw the team go off the boil with players taking an extra touch when it wasn`t needed and seemingly trying to walk the ball into the net. In the final period the team awoke from it`s slumber and Ap Gareth perserverance was rewarded with two goals of his own.
Overall the team were in little danger of losing and there were a series of good performances, none more so than MOM Lee, but we must concentrate for all the match not just some of it! The team now have a break before taking on a stiffer challenge in the form of Malpas JFC at HQ on Saturday October 5th. There is no strength in the rumour that Dixon`s solitary strike was due to being marked so tightly that the defender ended up with the number off Jack`s back!!!

A week is a long time in football and so it proved!! The performance today was a hundred times better than that which was produced last week. From the first to the last minute the Nomads really set their stall out to prove that last week was indeed a blip.
Coach Carey mentioned in the pre- match talk the positive way that the team should respond to last weeks horror show and the travelling fans were rewarded with a vintage performance. The front pairing of Dixon and Ap Gareth were back to their predatory best plundering six goals between them. They were also amply supported by the boy King.
The midfield of Baird, Lee and Pickering did not allow Saughall any way back into the game. Defensively, Walker, Chadwick (the additional scorer) and Bilsland were rock solid and MOM Carey last week didn`t touch the ball, slapped on the factor 15 and soaked up the rays!!!
The passing was accurate and to feet and play was constantly switched from side to side and defence was turned into attack in the blink of an eye. This was as good a performance as we have seen from the team in a long while.
Well done lads. The benchmark has been set now, let`s hope we can continue to meet it!!!!

"You`ve got me so confused and there`s words I could use but I`m afraid to use them", so sang Alison Moyet in the Eighties and Coach Carey definitely felt the same way after yesterday`s performance!!
Last season`s strengths of passing, keeping possession well and teamwork were not in evidence as Nomads were out thought and out fought by a very competent Upton side who deservedly took all the points. Dixon scored Nomads consolation as Upton`s goalie (who, bless him, must have felt sorry for us) allowed his shot to go under his dive!
Positives were few and far between but Carey was Mom with a string of fine saves, good kicking throughout and safe handling. The opportunity exists next week to put it right with a tricky away fixture at Saughall. Otherwise, Coach Carey could find himself in a Martin Jol/ Daniel Levy situation. He awaits the phone call from Chairman Apollonio with trepidation!
