Match Summary:
The team needed a pick me up after Wednesday’s less than impressive performance at Vauxhalls. So our Melanie arranged a friendly against the Waverton Wasps. (no such thing as a friendly in football …)
The omens seemed good the irreplaceable Matthew Sheridan was back in the team for the match and every other Colts player was present and hoping to wash away the sour taste of Wednesday night and the other recent defeats which have sapped the morale of the Colts team.
And so to the game!
The Colts were straight out of the blocks with wave upon wave of attacking football. By half time the score should have been at least 5 nil but strangely for all the blistering attacks launched by the boys the score stayed resolutely at nil nil.
Half time talk from coach Bolton let the boys know exactly what was missing from their football, goals!
So with coach Bolton’s words ringing in their ears the boys went back on for the second half and they had clearly been listening to every word that had been said as within minutes Halewood found the back of the net with a super strike which he followed up moments later with another rocket shot past the Wasps goalie. Sheridan, who had just been finding his feet in the first half, decided he was not going to be out scored, let the back of the net feel the force of his boot, again not once but twice!
Now the Colts were coasting, the ball was bouncing around our midfield and when once or twice the Wasps tried to mount an attack they were easily swatted away by the power of the Colts defence.
And then in the dying moments of the match Cartwright was put on in midfield to rest the weary legs of Halewood and almost immediately he was on that ball and he was not letting go until it reached the back of the net, which it did!
So 5 nil boys well done, more of the same please.

Match Summary:
On a cold damp spring morning the Colts readied themselves to face one of the league leaders Christleton New Scene.
It is possible that both parents and boys a like were a little too pessimistic and unfortunately that was the spirit in which the match started and the entire first half was played.
The Colts went a goal down within 1 minute and with that their heads stayed down for the first half as well as their boots, which appeared mired in the mud. Christleton were all over the Colts in that first half which by the end saw the Colts down 3 goals. The third of which was a rocket shot from nowhere completely unstoppable.
Rawson did what he could in goal and the score would have been a lot higher but for some cracking saves.
Otherwise there is little credit for any player in that first half, the midfield was asleep and the defence seemed unable to stand up to the physical presence of the Newscene forwards.
However there was one Nomads player who did stand out, he never gave up and sometimes he appeared from the touchline that he was only him against the rest of the Christleton players. Polding should be very proud of his performance and he continued in very much the same style throughout the second half.
Sorry but it was a game of two halves and the team woke up in the second. They ran at the opposition and they had chances unfortunately none of which were converted into goals. A well taken free kick from Hughes was heading towards the top corner but unfortunately their super tall goalie pushed it over the bar. The midfield seemed better able to hold onto the ball and although the Colts were never able to match the physical presence of the Christleton players they were no longer outclassed.
A special mention must go to Bolton in goal for the second half. He produced two of the finest saves this correspondent has seen in junior football. The first was reminiscent of Gordon Banks and Pele in Mexico 1970. The date and the location might be wrong but you get the picture.
Anyway the game finished 4 nil. The boys still have a lot to learn but there is much that it is positive about this game and the lessons learned will be used wisely and to winning effect next season.

Match Summary:
A bitter and unseasonal wind beckoned in a tough fixture for the young boys. Their days of poor starts appear to be in the past and they ran purposefully around the pitch as they sought to contain a very strong opposition team. Matthew Sheridan made a welcome return and signaled his intentions with a series of searing runs up the right wing. Fraser commanded in midfield and despite constant pressure the Colts held their own throughout the first half to keep a clean sheet.
The second half saw more of the same (but even colder for the frozen parents!) and again play flowed evenly from end to end before eventually Newton slotted in a goal. The Colts returned to the fray and ventured a number of shots but Newton were on a roll and soon scored a second, and then a third shortly before full-time. The match ended 3-0 and again the boys can be proud of their performance and strength of character in a well-tempered and fairly fought contest.

Match Summary:
This was always going to be a tough match against very strong opposition, who made a strong start and signaled their intentions by camping in the Colts’ half for what seemed like rather a long time. Six months ago the boys may have wilted under such early pressure, but they showed that they are not to be overawed and defended robustly. Despite constant pressure and numerous shots at their goal, the lads kept a clean sheet for the first half. That said, it was perhaps just as well that the Panthers had forgotten to bring their best shooting boots!
The second half started in similar fashion, but again the Colts hung on and pressed sufficiently so as to force a number of attacks. With some promising chances for a while it looked as though the boys might even snatch a goal, and several corners saw some of their best chances, but it was not to be. Eventually the Panthers whacked home a very good goal from distance to go one-up, and that was how a very fairly and evenly played game finished at full time. Credit to the boys for their temperament against such a strong team.

Match Summary:
This was an evenly matched and hard-fought contest that saw the boys continuing with the great progress that they have made in learning how to play as a team. Despite both teams’ strenuous efforts the first half ended without a goal. Castrol came out fighting in the second half, and an expertly taken free kick saw the ball in the back of the Colts’ net. Not to be outdone, Colts came straight back into the game and a strong run by James ended with a foul on him just outside the Castrol penalty box. Harry was brought on for the free kick, and a careful but powerful right-foot shot sent the ball soaring over the unusually tall wall to land comfortably in the top corner to bring the score back to level terms.
Play returned to the Colts’ end with a shot from the corner being struck at the goal to bounce on, then off, then on, then off the goal line before unluckily ending up trickling over the line to the consternation of all around the goalmouth (ok, maybe not the Castrol kids!). Trailing by that solitary goal, Colts went tearing into the opposition with Christian in particular playing a pivotal role in marshaling the attacks. Eventually Seb went running all the way from defence up the right wing like a chemically-fueled hare to pass to Fraser who arrowed the ball across to James who made no mistake in slotting it home to bring the score back to 2-2. Which was how the match ended, albeit after a few nail-biting moments at both ends.

Match Summary:
Some of the boys needed heavier boots to keep them on the ground as a hurricane lashed down the length of the Blacon pitch. The wind gave an obvious advantage that Blacon used to great effect, with early wind-assisted pressure leading to a succession of corners at the Colts end. One of these kicks was met by an outstanding glancing header that saw the ball slip past Matthew's fingers to make it 1-0, unfortunately scored by one of the defenders. Despite the wind being against them the Colts were clearly competing on near-even terms with a strong side, albeit that they were mostly on the defensive with Matthew called into action on numerous occasions. At one point an especially strong shot was met by Sebastian on the goal line to keep the score steady. However, another corner saw Blacon score, unbelievably from the head of the same Colts player! The first half seemed nigh-on endless as Blacon pressure mounted and they eventually scored just before the whistle blew.
With the second half came the wind advantage for Colts and it was as though they had an eighth man. James chased a hurricane powered clearance that left him jink past the goalie to put the score at 3-1. Within minutes Joe made a well-paced run down the wing with a well placed cross to James who shot, the ball bounced off the goalie to be met by Harry’s sure left foot, which sent the ball into the back of the net for 3-2. This led to exciting open play but Blacon had the upper hand and scored two more good goals to finish the match at 5-2. Nonetheless, the lads should be proud of a positive team performance under difficult conditions.

The lads made a convincing start at home against strong opposition, swiftly making it clear that they meant business. Early pressure led to a corner taken by Adam that was met with skill and resounding force by Fraser’s head to make a simply stunning goal into the top corner for 1-0. Waverton set about an equalizing goal with determination and mounted the first of many attacks upon the Colts’ goal but the Colts defended doggedly leaving them
1–0 up at the break.
The second half proved a test of the Colts’ defensive qualities, and especially of Matthew's goalkeeping skills. Time and again the Waverton forwards rained in shots only to be met by the indomitable Matthew. Even the opposition goalie joined in by harnessing a strong right boot and a following wind to bring about a long range aerial bombardment of the type that last year would have seen the Colts slipping behind to soft goals. Not this year. A Colt’s break saw Fraser dance towards the Waverton goalmouth and unleash a shot of blazing ferocity that left the goalie merely a spectator as the ball thumped the netting for 2-0.
The match ended with Colts still leading at 2-0, the product of a truly memorable all-round team performance of which the coach may be justly proud.

Match Summary:
A bright but chilly day saw the Colts start with verve and confidence, running straight at the opposition and mounting a series of attacks. Within just over 5 minutes the ball had been cleared off the Dynamos’ line 3 times. But not a fourth time as James pounced nimbly on a loose ball to slot it home. The play evened out as Dynamos fought back and a true schoolboy goalmouth scramble left the score at 1-1. However, the Colts were now finding their form and showed impressive passing skills with an especially smooth move of three passes leaving Harry to arrow the ball to Andrew who calmly knocked it home. At the death of the first half we saw more clever play, building to a fast run by Adam who struck firmly into the bottom corner to leave the lads at 1-3.
The second half saw an equally strong start and a run by Harry down the wing led to a high cross that Adam headed home with a diving header reminiscent of Joey Jones in his heyday. Andrew joined the scoresheet with a firm shot from outside the box that left the goalie gawping at the sheer speed of it all. 1-5 then. Could be worse. Adam then whacked in a high shot to hit a hat-trick, and leaving Joe hungry for some of the action and running for everything in a way that eventually saw him hit the Colts’ seventh. Seb, Christian and Connor let nothing past at the back and all round the boys looked at their confident best, barring a strong individual goal from the Dynamos. Matthew had a run out of goal and harried the opposition goalie with a number of shots that were only just parried from the line, one at the last second by a handy defender. All told, a very strong performance from every player and a well-deserved result at 2-7.

Despite only having 7 players the first half performance was the best pass and move game I've seen the Colts play since taking charge.
The boys pushed forward with Fraser and Andrew working hard. Moving Seb into the right midfield winger position worked time and time again but as often is the case against the run of play we went 1 - 0 down.
The lads rolled their socks up and soon after equalised when a great run and shot from Seb saw the Tattenhall keeper make a great save but James was there to pounce to make the score 1-1.
The second half saw the wind getting stronger and the boys tiring. We had to dig in against a good side. Great work from the back from Connor and Christian and some wonder saves from MOM Matthew.
We were on for our first point with only one minute to go when a Tattenhall corner went straight in and with the boys run off their feet due to no subs Tattenhall got another goal in injury time.
Thanks to all the lads for their effort and committment today. They wore their Nomads shirt with pride.

Match Summary: The Colts made a strong and positive start to the match against much-favoured opposition, and it soon became evident that they should be able to hold their own. Unfortunately, a well off-target and somewhat speculative shot from JFC struck one of our players and ricocheted into the Colts net. Worse was to come, as another weak shot gained strength by a deflection from the same Colts player (who was blameless and nameless!) to snuggle into the rear of the Colts’ net.
The second half saw another confident start by the Colts and some of the best passing play between the boys that this correspondent has seen so far, which is surely an encouragement for the future. If only they had the same finishing power in the penalty box! Nonetheless, they could not be accused of lacking in spirit and tirelessly ploughed up and down the quagmire serving as a pitch in search of a result. All that training had obviously been of benefit as they managed to keep going against strong opposition and maintain their composure, ably assisted by fine goalkeeping by both James and Matthew, who showed himself capable of saves that brought to mind the famous Peter “the cat” Bonetti at his finest. But even that display was insufficient to stop JFC, who finally scored with a proper goal, swiftly followed by a real cracker to leave the scoresheet at 0-4 and the Colts reflecting on how close they had come to a more representative score..

With a tough match in anticipation the young Colts went straight down to the other penalty box right from kick-off, with a fine shot from Andrew skimming just past the post. Throughout the half Nomads held sway over Helsby but eventually a scramble just before half-time saw them lose a goal. Completely unfazed, the Colts went straight back into enemy territory but despite many promising chances their finishing let them down and another soft goal saw them trailing by two at the first whistle.
An early corner in the second half saw Joe’s shot cleared off the line not once but twice, and that spelt out their luck in front of goal. Injury problems and a soggy pitch left the lads looking a little tired but they kept at it and looked like a strong and well put -together team that was steadfast in its resolve to claw back the deficit. Despite a sterling performance from all the boys the match ended as had the second half with the home team up by two goals.

Match Summary:
The boys made a special effort in warming-up for this match, not least because they had heard what happens to brass monkeys and were keen not to follow suit. T'was a chilly day, with an icy wind cutting across the Blacon pitch. The lay off from their last match had made them hungrier for a win and no time was lost in setting about the opposition goal. within minutes three attempts had been made on goal, Christian nearly scoring by whacking it like Beckham from the half-way line and Andrew showing Crouch how the head should truly be used with a thumping effort. Adam was kept out as well only by solid keeping and the by now inevitable Tigers rally was redoubtably repulsed by Connor and Sebastian, with Mathew strong in goal. Just before (or was it past...?) the death of half-time the Tigers skipped past and made it 1-0. Oh dear, how would the lads cope in the second half?
Well, the start was equally as good as the first half and Fraser showed off his footwork in taking the ball to the opposition half and Joe’s shot almost knocked the goalie backwards into the goal, but he just held onto it. A few minutes Harry slotted the ball through to Joe who let fly with another rocket shot that the goalie could only parry away to the waiting feet of the excellent James who coolly put it in the back of the net. Game on! Constant pressure and many corners demonstrated the Colts’ determination in what was one of their finest performances. Eventually, Tigers conceded a free kick on the edge of their own box and Adam stepped up to bend it into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 to Nomads, which was how it stayed. A wonderful performance that gave the proud parents a glow that took away the cold, fuelled further by the warmth of the home team’s welcome in what was a very sporting and well-tempered match.

Winter strolled portentously onto the pitch with a cold swagger as the teams lined up, chill winds cutting across the grass. For once, the boys managed to avert going a goal down in the first minute by some fine and lucky defence, with Seb as a mini-Colossus at the heart of things. It soon became evident that Dave’s pre-match warm-up routine was working a treat. The lads tucked in with real verve and gave as good as they got from a very strong opposition but eventually went down a goal, then two. There was no question of being outplayed or outclassed and every boy gave a strong performance, with Mathew in particular making a number of brave saves, ably assisted by his team mates, Cross Bar and Tall Post.
Despite a gutsy and skilled performance the opposition piled on the goals, with Colts perhaps being unlucky not to register on the score sheet, albeit not for want of trying, with several shots saved off the goal line. Eventually it came down to five-nil, but that was a creditable result for a strong performance on a tough day against tough opposition. At least they went down fighting….

Once upon a time on a cold late autumnal day the Chester Nomads Colts prepared themselves to face the Waverton Hornets. Although preparation was somewhat hampered by the late arrival of some of the young Colts. No names will be mentioned but they know who they are!
The Hornets played well from the whistle but the Colts were able to keep them at bay for the first half. There was some excellent defending from Cartwright and Evans, with Davy in particular throwing himself into the fray. Rawson, in goal for the Colts this week, was on fine form.
At half time the score was nil nil.
Colts had the slope advantage in the second half and the hope from the sidelines was that the ball would just roll into the Hornets goal. But it was all very well the ball rolling downhill the difficulty was in chasing the ball uphill when called upon to defend our own goal.
So fairly swiftly into the second half the Hornets scored and scored again. Then came a period of sustained pressure from the Colts with young Bolton making some good runs down the pitch ably supported in the midfield by Halewood, Hughes and Fox. However as so often is the case when most of the team were attacking at one end we were left very vulnerable at the back and the Hornet’s striker hit a superb volley which sailed over the head of Rawson, he had no chance, 3 nil!
And that was the final score but this was a good team performance against a strong Waverton side who showed that they had a little bit more of a sting in their tail than their brother team the Wasps!

On a chilly windswept day down at Boughton Hall the Colts prepared themselves to face Helsby JFC. Was this to be a repeat of the last time these 2 teams met where Helsby ran our boys into the ground and came away with 5 goals and a clean sheet or had the Colts matured since that last encounter and were now ready to meet this team and show them that the Colts are not quite the walkover they may have anticipated!!
The match started well with the Colts running at Helsby right from the whistle. There was no early goal to be conceded this time. The young Bolton was in goal and as soon as he was called to action he responded with a fantastic save. The Colts were not giving anything away this week. Cartwright and Davey maintained a strong back line with Bolton scooping up with confidence the few that came his way.
Down at the other end the boys were expertly passing the ball between themselves giving each other space until the moment came to strike which it did. Hughes passed the ball to Polding who passed it to Wills. He saw the goalie off his line and lifted the ball over the heads of the defenders and into the net. 1 nil!
Sheridan and Rawson came on just before half time and their combined attacking play kept Helsby on the back foot for the rest of the half.
Helsby returned to the pitch in the second half with renewed vigour. In fact such vigour that our No 10 young Hughes seemed to spend rather too much time with his face in the mud however the voice of Chumba Wumba must have been singing softly in his ear “I get knocked down and I get up again …”
The Colts were in a mood to deal with anything that was thrown at them. Rawson Fox and Polding worked that midfield. Rawson let fly a super ball to Fox who Maradona like took on the Helsby defence before knocking the ball into the net, 2 nil! This game was ours.
We let a consolation goal slip into the net in the final minute so the score finished at 2-1.
A fantastic team performance but special mention must go to our man in goal Bolton and man of the match Hughes, you can’t keep a good man down.

Match Summary: Sorry to have to start with that old chestnut of a footballing cliché but this truly was a game of 2 halves!
The Dynamos won the toss. This is never a good omen for the Colts as this then tends to indicate that the opposition will score in the opening 2 minutes and the Colts will be on the back foot for the rest of the game. This wasn’t quite what happened as the Dynamos left it until the 8th minute to score but the Colts did not start well.
In fact it’s fair to say that the 1st half was a forgettable display of shambolic football from the Colts and they were lucky to only concede the 1 goal. This very fortuitous result was down to both poor finishing from the Dynamos and, the only highlight of this half, some very brave defending from the fearless Sebastian. His mantra of “you shall not pass” seemed to be working well this week.
The half time talk did the trick this week. Or dare I say that whatever was in the drinks bottles certainly added some spring to the steps of the Colts! This was a much stronger start with all the boys pushing forward straight from the whistle. This time the pressure was coming from the Colts with wave upon wave of attacking football. It was only a matter of time before this rewarded with a goal.
A cross from Harry found the feet of Adam who slipped it home with a very composed finish to make it 1-1.
The Colts did not get complacent at this point they carried on as they had started the 2nd half. They ran they tackled and most of all they passed. Connor and Sebastian maintained their positions and ensured that the ball did not get anywhere near James Bolton. When on the odd occasion the young Bolton was called upon he was calm and composed and made sure that the ball stayed out of goal.
2 minutes before time Bolton Snr sent Christian on with the words “Go on get a goal”
Well he did just that! Adam made a wonderful run down the wing and sent a perfect ball into the box and with a beautifully timed run Christian poked the ball into the back of the net 2-1.
And there the score stayed!

On a glorious autumnal day at Boughton Hall the Nomads Colts did themselves and their parents proud.
This may have only been a friendly (is there really such a thing in football!) but the colts were up for the challenge. Any sting the Waverton Wasps may have had at the start was soon lost under wave upon wave of sustained attack by an invigorated colts side.
The pre match pep talk worked wonders this week. Whatever threats or promises were made the boys have kept quiet but more of the same again next week please Dave.
Unlike their last few games the colts were at the wasps straight from the kick off and by the end of the 1st quarter those wasps were lucky only to be 1 nil down. The goal was a well flighted corner from young Hughes, bit of a fumble in the box until it found the feet of Joe who steered it into the back of the Wasps nest.
The next 3 quarters saw goal after goal. There was constant pressure from all our attacking players and when the defence were called upon they made sure the Wasps did not get near our goal. Fraser Wills was congratulated at the end of the match for keeping a clean sheet to which he replied “I only touched the ball 4 times”.
There is not enough time or space to go through every goal but man of the match Polding sent the ball into the net 4 times. His final strike was Risse like from just over the half way line rocketing into goal. Their goalie did not stand a chance.
Matthew superstar Sheridan scored twice, the first goal was the result of a nice pass from the ref! Harry Hughes managed a double, the 1st was slotted home off his left foot having picked up a cross from Sheridan. His final attempt at a hat trick sailed over the bar.
The final score 8 nil!!

Match Summary: We are starting to think that the boys could do with a Chester version of the Haka to get them all pumped up before a game – perhaps the coach leading in a loin cloth, and let the imagination take it from there? Almost needless to say, they went a (very soft) goal down within one minute, and were clearly still asleep. At the start of the second quarter the Lions made it 0-2, and things were looking none too good. But then the stuff Dave puts in their drinks kicked in and off they went in the third quarter, putting the Lions under constant pressure but somehow the ball kept bouncing off other players, leading to corner after corner. Eventually, a soaring corner kick from Harry landed right in the goalmouth and bounced off James to make it 1-2. Renewed confidence saw further Colts pressure but a Lions break saw an obvious high cross find its way into the top corner for a goal that was unlucky for Colts but will stay with the kicker for quite some time!
By the final quarter the Colts were fully awake and pressing hard, with all boys playing well up front a goalmouth scramble left James to slot the ball home and the score at 2-3, with all to play for (sometimes a draw just seems very attractive!)The match was suddenly very exciting, with a degree of excited parental shrieking (Mr. and Mrs. C., you know who you are) as the Colts endlessly looked like drawing level. Alas, twas not to be and a Lions break had Mathew on his own at the back and powerless to defend against what was with out doubt the goal of the match, which gave a 2-4 scoreline at full time. Much better play from the boys, but if only they could play from the start as they did for the last half…...best bring out that loin cloth!

Match Summary: The best that we can say about the match was that it was a truly beautiful and life affirming Autumnal day, blessing the boys and their watching parents with late golden sunshine and warmth. Sadly, we were beat 7-0 by a strong Christleton side.
Apart from a poor first quarter, the Colts played a reasonable match, with Mathew in particular seeing a lot of action, and playing very well to keep the score to single figures.
Here's hoping the boys can get back to winning ways next Saturday.

Match Summary:
The winning streak came to a rather abrupt end. It became obvious early in the game that the Colts were up against tougher and more physical opposition, and the team spirit began to fade. After some end-to-end play Colts went down 1-0 in the first quarter (yes, back to quarters!) and then 2-0 after a goalmouth scramble. The lads rallied well in the next quarter and showed what they could do, although goals eluded both teams until the third quarter when Helsby whacked a ball high from near the centre and it sailed in just under the Colts’ crossbar – a fluke goal but worse was to come as Helsby took advantage of demoralised opposition to end the third quarter 5-0. The Colts upped their game and put some real pressure on the Helsby goal but never really looked like scoring and the match ended with them five goals adrift, and some intense post-match analysis…..

A good victory for the Colts in a
difficult away fixture at Vicars
Cross. A great free kick from Adam
Halewood and goals from Andrew Fox
and James Bolton secured Nomads
the win in an evenly fought game.
The match in which Colts scored
5 yet won 3-1….read on to work
it out! Colts made a forceful
start with heavy pressure on the
opposition goal, and a number of
useful shots went heading
netwards before a free kick on
the edge of the Dynamos penalty
box. Adam skilfully stepped up
to the mark and slotted it home
only to be told by the referee
that it should have been an
indirect free kick. Discussion
between ref and coach followed,
with Dave showing that he can be
more persuasive than Mourinho as
the ref eventually conceded that
it should indeed have been a
direct kick, but rather than
allowing the original goal the
kick was retaken. Parents
watched anxiously, but a carbon
copy goal ensued to the relief
of all. Dynamos responded with a
quick break that saw the ball
cleared from the Colts goal
line, and Seb had a fabulous
match in stopping further breaks
before they had time to develop.
In the second half (matches are
now thankfully a game of two
rather than four halves) Colts
maintained the pressure with Joe
running forward strongly, and
multiple corners coming from
this period of pressure. Harry
sent one of these straight
across the goal line for Andrew
to slot home to make it 2-0. The
Dynamos then battered the Colts
goal with three shots in 20
seconds but the defence stood
firm. Eventually, a corner from
Dynamos was met with a fantastic
glancing header that left Mathew
with no chance of saving it.
Unfortunately, the superb header
came from one of our own
players! The play swiftly moved
to the other end and a super
corner from Adam was met by a
solid header from James and the
ball thumped into the net,
leaving the Colts with five
goals scored to give a 3-1 win.

After a fairly even start just
edged by the Colts, Joe hit a low
drive into the corner followed by
his forward roll celebration by
the corner flag.
After a great passing move
involving Connor and Fraser, James
slotted home the 2nd. Matthew had
little to do in goal due to a
great defensive display by Seb and
Christian (has he got any boots
that match - one red and one blue,
what's that all about?).
A few minutes into the second half
saw a cracking goal from Andrew
Fox who had another excellent
midfield performance.
Matthew Sheridan scored to make it
4 -0 (was it a shot or a cross?).
Joe then made it 5 -0.
The Colts conceded a late goal
from a very competitive
Westminster Park team.
Keep it up boys. Top marks for
effort and the passing is starting
to come together.
