Date: 29 Nov 08
Competition: U10 Friendly
Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U10 Colts v Waverton Hornets
Result: 2 - 2
Scorers: Matthew Rawson, Joe Polding
MoM: Fraser Wills and Matthew Rawson

Match Summary: A depleted Colts team played their socks off in the freezing, foggy conditions to pull off a 2-2 draw against Waverton Hornets.

1st Half: A great first half saw everyone play well against a strong Hornets side. Unfortunately Seb came off early in the first half, not well enough to play, but substitute Matthew came on determined to prove himself. Some good saves from Joseph and sound tackling and clearances from Jack, Andrew and Joe prevented an early goal. Fine midfield play from Fraser today with more fancy footwork gave Adam the opportunity to run for goal. James was strong up front and battled well, but it was the combination of Fraser, Matthew and Adam that led to the only goal of the half. Fraser had a near miss, closely followed by a great strike from Adam, bravely saved by goalie Harker which Matthew followed in for a goal! 1-0!

2nd Half: Spurred on from their goal, the Colts had a strong second half with excellent performances from Joseph, Jack and Andrew. However with goalie Harker now up front, Fraser had his work cut out and rose to the challenge! He had another shot on goal but no joy! End-to end play eventually saw the Hornets draw level with a Harker goal. James' determination got the crowd excited and Matthew came up to help, but no goal. Unfortunately a break down the hill saw the Colts go 2-1 down from another Harker goal. A change of position saw Matthew prove himself in defence and Joe move up front to score a fantastic goal from an excellent cross from Adam. 2-2! Ref Chris blew for final time not long after - after the stick he got last week! A brilliant game boys, against a side top of their group. I'm sure Coach Bolton had trouble picking a man of the match today, you all played so well. That honour went to Fraser for his determined midfield play and to Matthew for his goal and versitility in all areas of the pitch. Malpas next week - play that well and, you never know, we could reverse that 4-2 scoreline!

Competition: U10
Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U10 Colts v Waverton Wasps
Result: 4 - 1
Scorers: Jack Bebbington,Andrew Fox,Joseph Rossiter(2)
MoM: Jack Bebbington

Match Summary: A hard fought match saw Waverton Wasps go 1-0 up before succombing to Nomads pressure who finished with a 4-1 victory.

1st Half: A battling first half with strong tackling and several free kicks ending in a level 1-1 scoreline. A good attacking start saw Andrew and Joe move forward and were unlucky not to get an early goal. Seb and Connor saw out any Wasps attacks, but it was soon clear that this was to be a harder match than the previous two, with much end to end play. James and Andrew put pressure on the Waverton defence but when midfield passing went astray the Wasps were always ready to pounce. An attack from the Wasps led to a great goal where goalie Joseph had no chance. Solid midfield play from Jack and some nice runs from Adam didn't reach goal and soon Joseph was having to pull off a great save. The following corner was put safe by Seb and then Fraser was brought on to liven up the midfield. Seb made a great run down the wing, crossing to Joe who tried to equalize, but it was a cracking long range shot from MoM Jack which saw the colts draw level. Once again the Wasps were attacking and great cover from Seb led to a corner which Joseph got his hands to, but it was a super header from Joe that made the ball safe.

2nd Half: A long second half with more free kicks and injuries than we've seen all season, finished 4-1 to the Nomads! A good start to the second half saw Charlie and Joseph have shots on goal. Fraser and Adam worked well together, but no joy - when are you going to score Fraser? More forward play resulted in a superb goal from Andrew and we were 2-1 up! A lovely run up the wing from Andrew and good cross saw Charlie just hit the side netting. The flowing play was interrupted by another free kick but this time Joseph got a good touch and it was 3-1! There then followed goal mouth action and controversy at the other end of the pitch with more injuries, a free kick and a corner but Seb's cover and James' safe hands ensured no goal was scored. Charlie then had a good run up the wing taking all the midfield with him which led to a close call on the counter attack! A good spell of passing and forward play from Andrew, Matthew and Charlie followed but Andrew had to come off injured. Joseph took his place and was soon taking a lovely corner kick which just missed Joe's head. Matthew, now up front, had a couple of chances but it was Joseph who got goal 4 with an amazing up and over shot into the top corner off the post. When the whistle was finally blown, Jack was awarded his well deserved MoM trophy, photos were taken and the very cold parents rushed off to their cars to get warm!

Match Details: (A) Chester Nomads U10 Colts v Vicars Cross Colts
Result: 5 - 0
Scorers: Adam Halewood,Andrew Fox,James Bolton,Charlie Hill,Joe Polding
MoM: Charlie Hill

Match Summary: Good play from both sides, despite the weather, saw Chester Nomads U10s win 5-0 against Vicars Cross Dynamos Colts.

1st Half: Although Vicars Cross came out strong, determined to improve on last week's defeat, the Nomads soon got the ball and after some great passing play a near miss led to a corner. Ably taken by Adam, Joe sent a powerful header into goal. Later, a good cross from Matthew allowed Adam to score a cracking goal for 2-0! Although the Nomads were trying hard to play a passing game, as the weather worsened and the ground got muddier, this got harder and harder. Jack, Fraser and Andrew battled well in midfield and Connor and James in defence ensured goalie Joseph had little to do, except some great goal kicks.

2nd Half: MoM Charlie came on up front and showed some determined play and fancy footwork. Once again the Nomads had more of the play and some very brave saves from the Vicars Cross goalie kept the score at 2-0 for much of the second half. Seb, Connor and Matthew saw off any Vicars cross attacks and Jack and Fraser tried so hard to get a goal from midfield. Finally, Andrew was able to put one away for 3-0 and Charlie was rewarded for his nifty play to make it 4. The cold and wet parents were waiting for the final whistle but not before James slotted one home for 5-0. Great play lads - keep it up!

Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U10 Colts v Vicars Cross Colts
Result: 6 - 0
Scorers: Adam Halewood(2) Charlie Hill (2) Andrew Fox,Joe Polding
MoM: Charlie Hill

Match Summary: A good-tempered match saw the Nomads Colts U10s come away with a comfortable 6-0 victory over the Vicars Cross Dynamos Colts.

1st Half: Chester made a good attacking start to today's match and soon Adam had scored a goal through the legs of the Vicars Cross goalie. There followed more attacking play with Jack constantly booting the ball down the pitch and Joe and Adam up front. Then, just after the 5 min time check, Joe slotted the ball in the net for 2-0. The Nomads Colts kept pushing forwards with some great runs down the right by Adam but each cross to James didn't quite make goal. Seb and Connor made sure Joseph had little to do with some strong defensive play. A couple of near misses from Andrew followed and then goalie Joseph got his first touch after a superb header out from Seb. Jack then went on the attack but great goalkeeping prevented a goal. Fraser, on for an injured Andrew, showed some great footwork in midfield, not giving the Dynamos chance to score leaving the score 2-0 at half time.

2nd Half: Shortly into the second half, Adam had a great run but unfortunately took the ball out of play before it went in the net. Despite good humoured protestations from the sidelines, the ref stuck to his guns and gave a goal kick! There then followed a great chance for Charlie and a lovely save from Adam's shot before Charlie got a great goal off the post. 3-0! Joe then peppered the goal before the Vicars Cross defender handballed just in front of the goal. After consultation with the 2 coaches a free kick was given on the edge of the box which Adam took with a clean strike to go 4-0 up. Adam continued to show his skills at getting the ball forward and as the midfield piled forward, Christian provided solid cover. Several corners and a great ball in from Andrew tested the Dynamos defence, before they finally had a near miss. Goal no. 5 came after a great corner kick from Andrew. The parents and ref weren't sure who had scored but Andrew's sliding celebration allayed our confusion! A few minutes later a fumble by the goalie allowed Charlie to score his second goal but, try as he might, the hat-trick eluded him - a well-deserved man of the match trophy being the consolation! Towards the end of the game Joseph pulled off a great save to keep a clean sheet. A great victory against a battling Vicars Cross side who never gave up. Well done both teams!

Date: 18 Oct 08
Competition: U10
Match Details: (A) Chester Nomads U10 Colts v Vauxhall Astras
Result: 0 - 7
Scorers:
MoM: Seb Cartwright

Match Summary: After a sound first half, Chester Nomads Colts U10s succumbed to a 7-0 defeat by Vauxhall Astras U10s.

1st Half: The game started with the teams evenly matched with good midfield play on both sides. Fraser and Andrew battled well but the ball barely entered the opposition's half. There then followed a great save from James but as Vauxhalls attacked again the ref made a decision to play on when James and everyone else thought the ball was out, which led to Vauxhalls first goal. Joe came on to strengthen the attack but we couldn't score. After a great clearance from Seb, Adam chased the ball towards goal, but he couldn't cross in time. There followed a fingertip save from James and a great run from Fraser with a shot from Adam just off target. A further save from James and repeated clearances from man of the match Seb saw the parents waiting for the half-time whistle. Unfortunately Vauxhall scored again well into injury time, but a half-time score of 2-0 was respectable thanks to strong defending from Connor, Seb and James.

2nd Half: The second half didn't start so well. A rare mistake from James' goal kick saw the ball go straight to an attacker and into the goal. After a change of goalie, play remained in our half. The 4th goal was unlucky; after Joseph had dived to save the ball, it was deflected from a Vauxhall player into the net. With some great defensive play from Joe and 2 saves from Joseph, there followed a period of better attacking play from Matthew and Charlie which got the crowd shouting again. Finally we had a shot on goal - a long range effort from Jack. Hard luck, mate. Back into our half and Vauxhall looked strong. Despite a save from Joseph and a clearance from Joe we were soon 6-0 down. Joseph appeared to be in pain and was finally replaced. Matthew (goalie no.3) came in and soon made a good save. Vauxhall were soon on the attack again and although Fraser cleared the ball off the line and there were several orange shirts in the box, the ball found its way into the net for 7-0. Sound defensive play from Christian and a great save from Matthew just before the whistle prevented the final score being any worse.

Match Summary: A good performance from the Chester Nomads Colts U10 team saw them run out handsome 12-0 winners against Saughall Colts Blacks

1st Half: A rather grey morning saw the team and parents hoping for another win and they weren't disappointed! Coach Bolton reminded them of last weeks's loss due to lack of passing and they listened! Heading downhill the team put several passes together before Adam bagged the first goal of the morning within 30 secs. More good play in the opposition's half lead to a great goal from Andrew after 6 mins. Then, after a great run and cross from Andrew, James slotted it in the net for 3-0! There then followed 2 good attempts from Jack but to no avail. A better spell from Saughall saw 3 corner attempts ably put away by our defence. Adam battled well with the defence before Andrew bagged his second goal. 4-0 in less than 15mins! A brief spell in our half saw some good defensive work from Connor before Adam had a shot saved by the goalie. Jack had another attempt before Seb knocked one in off the post. 5-0!! Determined to get his hat-trick, Andrew kept pushing forward and then there it was - 3 goals and Mike's wallet got a lot lighter! By this time everyone wanted a goal, and Matthew placed himself just right in the box. Could he get his first goal for the Nomads? Adam came down the wing, put in a great cross and it's a goal... from Seb! Great goal, Seb, better luck next time, Matthew. There then followed an unlucky own goal to finish the first half 8-0.

2nd Half: With Andrew off for a rest and grinning from ear to ear, Charlie came on to try and get his first goal. Once again the Nomads were on the attack. 2 corner attempts were followed by a break from Saughall and James pulled off a good save. Then we were back attacking with Matthew in the box. Could he do it? Could he score? Yes!!!! In his 3rd season for the club, that long-awaited goal had finally happened! A rather embarassing celebration on the touch-line from his parents and we were 9-0 up! Further attacking moves, and not long later new boy Charlie made it 10! Wow! A change in the line-up saw Christian come up front and Joseph in midfield. Forever the terrier, Fraser tried and tried to bag one for himself and Christian had a couple of chances, but it was Joseph who finally put the nails in the coffin for Saughall with 2 great goals in the last 10 mins. 12-0! Our best ever score! Congratulations boys!

Competition: U10
Match Details: (A) Chester Nomads U10 Colts v Newton Athletic Eagles
Result: 3 - 4
Scorers: Adam Halewood (2), Andrew Fox
MoM: Adam Halewood

Match Summary: A match involving battling performances from both teams finished with Newton running out winners by the smallest of margins.

1st Half: Depleted by the teams social commitments, 8 members of the Colts arrived at a chilly County Offiicers pitch. With Andrew Fox playing through the pain barrier, against the physios wishes. This was always going to be a tough ask at a ground where we have not enjoyed much success in previous years. A good start saw the ball doing most of the movement as the teams acclimatised to the first cold start of the season. The game ebbed and flowed with both teams putting in good attempts from distance. Rawson pulled off a couple of good saves, Evans and Cartwright belied their stature to snuff out anything Newton threw their way with a series of crunching challenges. Newton continued to pepper the penalty box with some great throw-ins in the style of Rory Delap, but it was the Colts who broke the deadlock. The ball came to Halewood on the right wing and with some funky footwork he opened up a shooting angle which rifled past a despairing goalkeeper. The rest of the first half continued in a similar manner with neither team creating many clear cut chances despite a good diving header attempt from Bolton which was clawed away as it looked destined for the back of the net.

2nd Half: All the good words from the Coach were undone within seconds of the restart when a hopeful long free kick attempt could only be parried by Rawson into the path of a grateful Newton player. Now was the time to dig deep. The Nomads midfield of Bebbington, Wills and Fox were immense, winning more than their fair share of 50:50 tackles. However there was liitle they could do to prevent Newton scoring again from a good cross on the left hand side. The Nomads went for the equaliser with all guns blazing. Halewood set off down the left wing, the crowd waited for the cross but, like the goalie, we were amazed as Halewood spotted the smallest of gaps at the near post into which he bent a brutal shot which stung the Goalkeepers hands on its route to the net. 2-2. Passing in this game was an under used skill as the ball spent more time in the air than on the ground. Another long throw deceived the defense with the ball once again falling to the feet of a waiting Newton player. 3-2. Finally the Nomads found their passing boots with a period of pressure resulting in a corner and a miscued shot from Fox which led, against the run of play, to another counter attack goal from Newton. 4-2. The crowd wanted more action and they were not to be disappointed with a fantastic solo run from the injured Andrew Fox resulting in an early contender for goal of the season. But the clock was against us and as the referee bought the match to an end we were left with the memories of what could have been. Despite losing there was much to be positive about especially the performance of Bebbington who surely must win a MoM award shortly

Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U10 Colts v Malpas
Result: 2 - 4
Scorers: Joe polding, Andrew Fox
MoM: Seb Cartwright

Match Summary: A competitive, good-natured game with great performances from both sides saw Malpas the eventual 4-2 winners.

1st Half: A battling first half saw the Nomads go down only 1-0 with great play from all players. Seb and Connor provided sound cover in defence and Joseph made some superb goalkicks. Jack and Andrew showed their skills in midfield, leading to some goalmouth action and brave goalkeeping from the opposition. A great corner after 10 mins saw the Colts go 1-0 down through no fault of goalkeeper Joseph. The goal gave the team renewed determination and there followed some better play from James ending in a close shot on goal. 2 good saves from Joseph, strong midfield play from Jack and attempts from left-winger Adam gave the parents hope for a goal. Pressure from the Colts at the end of the half saw a good goal attempt from Charlie and Joe followed by 2 from Adam. 0-1 down to a strong Malpas side - not bad boys! Half-Time: A proud coach Tim told the boys they had earnt the right to go out and win in the second half. 2nd Half: With Matthew and Christian on and James in goal, the Colts went out fighting with good pressure on goal. Unfortunately, this led to an excellent break by the opposition and James had to pick the ball out of the net. After another goal from a corner a minute later, the Nomads lost their spirit for a while. However, after Joseph came into midfield and we saw some cracking cover from Seb and Christian, things were looking up. Great play in the box from Matthew and Joseph saw Joe slot in a super goal. 3-1 ! Heads were back up and we then saw a fabulous Gerrard-style run from Andrew into the box and he scores! 3-2 ! Come on boys - you can do this! The next 10 mins saw very determined play especially from Jack, contesting the Man of the Match trophy with Seb. Sadly, following a corner from Adam, a shot from Joseph was saved and Malpas went on the break to score goal number 4, as the final whistle was blown. A fantastic effort from everyone - you should be proud of yourselves!!

Result: 2 - 0
Scorers: Andrew Fox, Adam Halewood
MoM: Adam Halewood

Match Summary: A spirited Westminster Park side were finally undone by 2 second half strikes from Andrew Fox and Adam Halewood which ensured victory from a determined Colts team.

1st Half: There was much huff and puff and plenty of great shots on goal, but a star Westmister Park goalie kept them all out, even though the Colts were shooting down hill! Terrier-like midfield play from Fraser and great defending from Seb and Connor meant that Westminster Park had few chances to score. 2nd Half: Some good defending including spectacular gymnastics from Connor meant goalie Matthew had little to do. Near misses from Adam, hard work by new boys Charlie and Jack in the box and a saved shot from Andrew after he danced through the defence left the boys and parents frustrated at the 0-0 scoreline. Finally, a wonderful goal from Andrew Fox 16 mins into the second half, followed by a grass burn celebration, had the parents cheering! This was followed by more goal-line action as James had a shot saved by the post and Adam had a great shot saved by the keeper. The defence then backed off and allowed Adam to score a screamer with 5 minutes to go. 2-0! Two games, two wins, no goals conceded, keep up the good work boys!

Match Summary: 3 - 0 win for the Colts with a MOM performance from the Wasps goalkeeper who pulled off a string of great saves.

After the summer break of penalty woes, much improved performances and a mixed bag of 2 friendlies behind us the boys were raring to go. Despite all the talking to the boys we started of slowly yet again. Eventually we got our act together and started to pass the ball with Jack scoring with a spectacular effort. We peppered the Wasps goal only to find the Wasps keeper in tremendous form and it remained 1-0 at half time. The second half proved much the same. The fit again Adam scored a fantastic free kick. Near the end Joe got a deserved third with a man of the match performance.
