Match Summary:

Full Report: A disappointing result for Nomads who were up against it with several players out through injury, and other commitments, and 2 of the remaining twelve carrying injuries that would normally prevent them playing. Third choice keeper Louis was brought in and promptly walked away with the MOM award, not being able to do anything with either of the Boughton goals Playing on a very heavy pitch, Nomads worked tremendously hard without really getting the rewards they deserved. 0-0 at halftime, had the ball that Lloyd pushed past the keeper not held up on the heavy pitch allowing the Boughton defender to clear, then the result may have been very different. Boughton missed a couple of chances before some good finishing saw them take a 1-0 lead. Nomads pushed the game looking for an equaliser but were caught on the counter attack to concede the second that killed the game off. A real cup tie pitch and atmosphere. Good luck to JFC Boughton in the next round.

Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U14 Colts v Saughall Colts
Result 0-6
MoM: Jack Dilworth

Scorers

Match Summary: On a wet and blustery day, Saughall proved just that bit too strong for a spirited Nomads side who never let their heads drop. 3 goals either side of half time saw Saughall win 6-0. Nomads MOM was Jack Dilworth and for Saughall it was Matthew Taylor.

Full Report: Nomads never really got going in the first half and found themselves being out muscled in most parts of the pitch. A strong and quick Saughall forward line saw them get in behind the Nomads defence early on and make their intentions clear. Nomads never really got their passing game together and Saughall went in 3-0 up at half time. It took Nomads some time to get into their stride in the second half and by that time the game was beyond them. Some much better interplay between the midfield and strikers saw Joe Rigg go close on several occasions. Liam Smith and Thomas Johnson also had efforts go close without getting what the team probably deserved. The boys have a lot to be proud of for the way they went about the game until the final whistle.

Result 0-7

Scorers

Match Summary: Nomads turned out their worst performance of the season going down 0-7 to Princes Villa. Thomas Johnson was Nomads MOM.

Full Report: One of those days when it seemed too many of the squad didn't up and the football was far from what we have come to expect from the Nomads team this season. The pitch was not the best which probably didn't help our passing game but it was the same for both sides. 0-3 down at halftime, much improvement was expected for the second half and that turned out to be case with a lot more commitment and determination although Princes Villa did get a further 4 goals. Lloyd & Joe as the striking partnership were left on a 70 minute crash diet as they didn't even have scraps to feed on. We'll put this down to half term lethargy with no match last week and training cancelled due to weather. We're sure the boys will want to put things right with a much better display next week.

Competition: Chester & District League
Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U14 Colts v Park Saints
Result 1-7
MoM: Dominic Harper

Scorers Liam Smith

Match Summary: Nomads recent unbeaten run came to an end today. A combination of unfortunate errors and a strong Park Saints display cost a battling nomads side. Saints were worthy winners but I felt the scoreline flattered them

Full Report: Although this result gives the impression that nomads were well beaten it does not tell the full story. Playing on the larger of the two Garrison pitches proved to be a mistake, we found it difficult to come to terms with the extra space-we will be reverting to the other pitch immediately.

Not much else to report; the mistakes we made were unfortunate and were punished immediately by the Park Saints forwards. Nomads kept battling right to the end and were, in the last ten minutes, even though we were 0-5 down, pinning the Saints back and causing them problems. It was after one of these attacks that Nomads gained a corner; Jack Mcgarva swung the ball in and the Saints defence half cleared it . Liam Smith spotted the opportunity and strode onto the loose ball and hammered an unstoppable shot over the stranded Saints keeper. We kept pressing forward but unfortunately in our desire to get back at the Saints left ourselves a little over exposed at the back and allowed Saints to score two more goals. A point to remember was made to me after the match. We shouldn't lose sight of how much we have improved; the last time we played in this level of competition we might well have had double figures put past us and yet we competed on level terms for much of the match. It is a tribute to the efforts the boys have made that we are playing such good football and deservedly getting some good results.

I did mention to the team that my week end so far, in footballing terms, had not gone well. My team the 4ths had been beaten 0-7 yesterday, the mighty Baggies had been unluckily beaten 4-0 by some team in red and I was hoping the Colts could cheer me up! Well we did get a goal!

Competition: Cup
Match Details: (H) Chester Nomads U14 Colts v Blacon Youth
Result 5-3
MoM: Tom Johnson

Scorers Joe Rigg 3, Tom Johnson 1, Liam smith 1

Match Summary: Three goals from Joe Rigg and one each from Tom Johnson and Liam Smith saw Nomads run out 5-3 winners of a very closely contested cup tie. Extra time was needed with Nomads going behind three times before clinching the win, totally dominating extra time.

Full Report: Nomads started the game brightly passing the ball well and supporting each other with some clever running. for the first twenty minutes or so there was only one team in the game; Blacon were being pegged back in their own half and found it very difficult to get the ball. Their goalkeeper was having an outstanding game making several good saves, one in particular from Matthew Jones. On Blacon's first attack an uncharacteristic slip in defence saw their forward in on goal and he calmly rounded Tom Shotton and placed the ball into the net from an angle. Nomads continued to press and were rewarded when some neat passing on the right put Tom Johnson in space and he crossed for Joe Rigg to glance a header in to the far corner of the goal; no more than Nomads deserved. Just after half time Nomads went behind again with Blacon once again pouncing on a poor clearance. The equaliser came after a corrner was only partly cleared by Blacon and Tom Johnson was on hand to slot the ball home. Nomads were well on top at this point and went close with a Conor Ryan header just passing the post. Blacon went ahead again: a lapse in concentration seeing them net from a corner. It was Nomads turn to equalise yet again. Dominic Harper and Conor Ryan combining to put Joe Rigg in space. Joe showed great composure to loft his shot over the keeper from outside the area. Nomads were well on top at this point and dominating all aspects of the play. Just before the end of normal time Andy Dunlop went clear and had a great chance to win the game. Unfortunately the Blacon keeper pulled off yet another great save to send the game into extra time.

Nomads team spirit came to the fore in extra time when all showed great determination, winning every 50-50 tussle and really making it difficult for Blacon. Their dominance was so complete that Blacon switched their centre forward into the middle of defence to try to stem the flow of Nomads' attacks. The last two goals came one in each half of extra time; first Tom Johnson setting Joe up for his hat trick goal (unlucky Mike I believe that is going to cost you £20) and then Liam Smith shooting home after the keeper had saved a Thomas Johnson shot. Andy Dunlop's efforts up front were nearly rewarded but his shot struck the post and stayed out.

Another great game to watch; the crowds certainly get their thrills watching Nomads who are developing a habit of, very sportingly, giving other teams a start before going on to clinch the game.

Date 05 Oct 08
Competition: Chester & District League
Match Details: (A) Chester Nomads U14 Colts v Malpas & District JFC
Result 2-2
MoM: Christian Gunther

Scorers Liam Smith & Jack Dilworth

Match Summary: A pulsating match which saw Nomads display great grit and determination in coming back from 2 down at half time to level at 2-2. It could have gone either way in the end with both sides going close but a draw was probably a fair result.

Full Report: Both teams started off very brightly but Malpas played the more direct football and created the early chances before going 1-0 up. Nomads continued to play their football but were caught napping from a quick throw in and Malpas scored a second and take the lead into half time. Nomads were looking even more solid in the second half and were rewarded with their first goal when Christian Gunther fed the ball down the line to Joe Rigg who turned brilliantly to create the space. Joe then played a one-two with George Dermott and then slid the ball across the box for Liam Smith to slot the ball just inside the keeper’s left hand post from 12 yards. The Nomads’ goal seemed to put Malpas on the back foot and Nomads were determined to take the initiative. Malpas were defending solidly and got all their players behind the ball when they lost possession and hit Nomads on the counter attack. Just when it seemed Nomads were running out of time Jack Dilworth picked up a Malpas clearance a few yards inside the Nomads’ half and launched a shot high towards the Malpas goal. The Malpas keeper was back pedaling furiously but could do nothing as the ball bounced just over the line and into the roof of the net. It was a great all round performance again from Nomads with an assured performance from Tom Shotton in goal, a rock solid back four, the midfiled four battling for everything and the front two working the line magnificently. Well done boys.

Result 3-2
MoM: Whole team.

Scorers Lloyd Smith 2 , Thomas Johnson 1.

Match Summary: A pulsating game with two teams trying to play attractive football ended with Nomads 3-2 winners. After going a goal up inside two minutes Nomads went 1-2 down but a spirited fightback saw them run out deserving winners.

Full Report: Nomads started the game playing fluent football with the immediate reward of a goal from close in by Lloyd Smith. Lloyd rounded off a good passing move down the right by dribbling past a couple of defenders and slotting in from a narrow angle. Boughton recovered well and just after half time got an equaliser and then went in front. Nomads regrouped and showed fantastic spirit; they kept playing one and two touch football which was really stretching the visitors. After a spell of attacking play Nomads worked the ball to Tom Johnson who steadied himself and then unleashed an unstoppable shot into the Boughton net; 2-2 and all to play for! Boughton were visibly unsettled and Nomads attempted to press home their advantage going close from two free kicks from outside the area. As the game went on Boughton settled and threatened on a number of occasions but good cover in defence and an acrobatic goal line clearance fron Christian Gunther kept the scores level. Then came the moment the frenzied home crowd had been waiting for; the ball was passed forward from defence, through the midfield and in to Lloyd; he quickly skipped past the despairing defender and slotted home with four minutes left on the clock. A solid last four minutes saw Nomads keep the ball away from their opponents to see themselves home to a well earned victory. The whole team gained the man of the match award; in truth it would have been criminal to single out one player. All on the pitch should be feeling very proud of their display today; individual effort and flair within a solid team framework earned the victory. When the team attacked it was fast and skilful; when they defended it was committed and full of support for each other.

Competition: Chester & District JFL
Match Details: (A) Chester Nomads U14 Colts v Blacon Youth
Result : 2-4
MoM: Whole Team

Scorers Joe Rigg, Lloyd Smith

Match Summary: This was an evenly contested match but Nomads failed to make the most of the chances they created in the first half and were made to pay. Blacon netted either side of halftime before Nomads fought back. Blacon always kept their noses in front and ran out 4-2 winners.

Full Report: Although we had not managed to get any pre-season friendlies under our belt, Nomads didn’t display any rustiness and started very brightly with some slick passing and created the early chances. The Blacon keeper was in good form and pulled off a few smart saves. Nomads continued to press and went close on several occasions but failed to convert any of the chances they created. Blacon took the lead against the run of play just before halftime.

The second half was lot more evenly balanced but Nomads started slowly and some hesitation in defence led to Blacon grabbing a second. Nomads slowly gained the initiative again and some fine work down the left flank between Liam Smith and Matthew Jones led to Matthew threading the ball through to Lloyd Smith who turned and squared the ball to Joe Rigg who slotted the ball past the keeper into the bottom left corner. Blacon hit back again to take a 3-1 lead following more defensive hesitation. Nomads picked themselves up again and some fine work down the left flank, this time from Jack McGarva, saw him square a ball to Lloyd Smith just outside the 18 yard box who then fired a fierce drive which the keeper could only parry into the roof of the net. Blacon then netted a fourth to put the game beyond Nomads.

The boys need to work on their communication on the pitch. Several occasions saw two players challenging for the same ball and the same goes for the communication between the defence and keeper. Small criticisms but most probably would have prevented a couple of Blacon’s goals today.
