Highlights

Nomads attacked the St. Clare’s Church end in the first half, on the pitch nearest the church.

In very difficult conditions better suited to slide tackles and helping washing machines get clogged with the aftermath of the match, Nomads got off to a flyer!

Into the third minute, Thomas broke down the right and forced a corner.  Ted swung it into the far post for Aayron to volley home.

Two minutes later and the lead was doubled after Thomas slipped a pass to Callum who using his speed and close control moved up field.  He rode the tackle of the defender and oncoming goalkeeper before placing the ball neatly in a now unguarded goal.

Roles were reversed on 12 minutes when Callum played Thomas up the right flank.  He went up to the by line and squared the ball in front of the Lache Park goal for Harry to tap in for number three.

We were very lucky in the 17th minute when out of nothing we scored our fourth.  Thomas tried to cross the ball from the right but was wide of his intended target.  Luckily for us, it was headed towards the goal and somehow gently bobbled in.

Ten minutes into the second half, we got a free kick in our own area. Matthew played the ball to Callum on the right near the half way line.  Callum continued down the right and knocked a lovely weighted pass into the area.  Thomas ran onto it and side footed the ball into the left corner of the net, beyond the advancing goalkeeper.

There were several scares in the second half as a determined Lache Park pressed forward.  Tom, who must have been very cold, pulled off some great saves and kept another clean sheet.

Weather: Dry. Slight wind across the pitch. 12C.

Nomads defended the changing room end of the pitch nearest the main road and entrance roundabout at Dale Camp.

Another keenly fought match between two competitive teams.  However, after the opening exchanges in the first 15 minutes, Nomads took control.  Nomads also had a slightly under par squad this week due to this being a rearranged fixture, having been brought forward two weeks to cater for Half Term absentees.  Unfortunately this meant we were without Matthew Cooper and also had an “under the weather” Harry, playing, but not feeling too well.

On 15 minutes Aayron skipped past 2 diving tackles the first when he had the ball on his right foot, the second when he had switched it to his left foot.  He then drove forward to the edge of the Upton box and hit an unstoppable shot  into the net.

Less than two minutes later there was a good exchange of passes between Ted, Callum and Aayron, before Ted laid the ball centrally to Aayron for a second time.  Aayron placed the ball beautifully into the net for his and Nomads second goal.

Things stayed this way until half time with any Upton breaks being cleverly killed off by Jack and Peter.  Neither dived in for tackles, instead allowing the attackers to make mistakes or for the ball to be overrun.  Harry played deep behind the 2 wide defenders and cleared anything coming beyond them.

Three minutes into the second half Jack calmly side stepped an advancing Upton attacker and passed to Callum on the wing.  Callum moved inside to the centre of the pitch and having moved beyond the halfway line, he knocked the ball into the area for Thomas. Thomas had defenders all around him and knocked the ball back to Callum who advanced to the edge of the box.  Callum slotted the ball into the net to make the game fairly safe.

There was lots of activity but no clear chances for the next 10 minutes.  Aayron was hungry for his hat trick but it was proving elusive with several chances either being blocked or going wide.

Then, with 8 minutes remaining and Harry having left the defence to push on up the field we had a good team goal.  Jack was again steady and unshakable in defence and played a simple pass out to Callum.  Callum knocked the ball to the left wing for Peter who sent the ball forwards to Harry.  Harry in turn found Callum again, passed to Thomas, on to Aayron who knocked it straight back to Thomas at the edge of the area.  Thomas side footed it home to make the score 4-0.

There was still one last chance for Nomads when the ball fell to Harry.  Unfortunately, he had his back to goal and was unaware that he was through one on one with the goalkeeper.  He unselfishly passed back to Aayron who was closely marked and could not finish things.  His consolation for his 2 goals was a well-deserved MOTM.

Highlights

Nomads defended the changing room end of the top pitch at Boughton Hall.

A very hard fought match that was end to end throughout.  Nomads took an early lead when a corner from the right, was knocked down by Harry.  Thomas then had a simple tap in.

After 12 minutes things were level as a midfield mistake was punished quickly - the ball being struck firmly from outside the box.  Tom did well to get across his goal to get his hands to the shot but was unable to stop it.

Four minutes later Ted collected a long throw from Matthew on the right side. He knocked the ball into the area and Thomas helped it towards the goal from a few yards out. It took a slight deflection and Nomads had restored their advantage.

Another four minutes and things were level once more when another long-range shot found the top right corner of the net.

Half time came and Richard gave a passionate team talk to gee up the boys.  He explained that even if they went behind, this game was for the taking and they were to play in much the same way and never to give up.  It worked a treat as Nomads soaked up attacks in the second half and added to their impressive goals tally.

On 31 minutes Edward collected a defensive throw by the Pumas on the left. He slid the ball to Ted who belted the ball from outside the area with his right foot in a mirror image of Pumas first goal.

Two minutes later a Nomads throw was knocked forward for Thomas to score. However, a clear foul throw had taken place and the goal was scratched – still 3-2.

With 7 minutes remaining Aayron did some great dibbling and his deflected shot went for a corner. Ted whipped it in from the right and the defender swung a left foot to clear the ball. It looped off the outside of his boot and into the net to create some breathing space.

With less than 3 minutes remaining Aayron again went on a run but was tackled near the halfway line. He tackled back and again got the ball. He rolled the ball back behind himself, turned, sent two Puma players the wrong way and headed back towards their goal.  He played the ball forward to Ted who was at the edge of the opponents’ area. Ted took the ball with his right foot, swivelled with his back to goal and in one motion caught the ball powerfully with his left foot.  It flew into the roof of the goal for a great goal.

It must have been a hard decision for MOTM as both Aayron and Ted played with aplomb.  However, on this occasion Ted got the vote.

Fixture

Saturday 2nd October 2004: Newton Eagles Athletic v Chester Nomads Colts.

Weather and Result

Dry and overcast with wet pitch surface. Little wind. 15C.                                   Nomads win 10-1

Highlights

Nomads attacked the entrance end in the first half, on the pitch nearest the changing rooms. Within the first 5 minute, Aayron collected the ball in the centre of the pitch, went left and split the defence with a lovely weighted pass to Thomas on the right edge of the box. Thomas hit the ball low into the right corner of the net.

Nomads were starting to get caught on the counter attack and after 6 minutes things were all square. Newton broke down the right and although we had 5 players chasing back, the cross from near the corner flag eluded everyone and was tapped in from a few feet away. Tom Shotton then kept Nomads in the game with a string of fine saves as Newton continued to catch us on the break.  A big gap appeared in our right midfield as Thomas J continually wandered out of position and this time we were rescued by several saving tackles by Matthew, Jack and Peter.  Thomas finally listened and went back to his proper place and Nomads took a firm grip allowing forays up the left by Peter from his defensive position. The defence after that controlled Newton and no more goal threats were allowed by a superb goalkeeping and back 3 performance.

On 20 minutes, Newton tried to clear their area and press forward. Aayron collected the ball on the half way line, rode 3 tackles and placed the ball with power in the net; a great individual goal. 23 minutes in and Callum skipped nicely down the left and lay on a pass to Ted. His shot hit the post and stopped. Thomas was the first to react to make the score 3-1. Seconds before half time and it was 4-1 as Ted took a corner from the right which Thomas volleyed home from no more than a yard from goal for his hat trick.

Early in the second half a defensive clearance from Newton stayed in the box and Thomas placed the ball in the top right corner. A minute later and it was 6-1 with Thomas tapping home after another defensive scramble.

Newton looked demoralised and Callum picked up the ball half way in their half down the right hand side.  Newton players couldn’t cope with his pace and turns. He moved into the edge of the area before firing low into the bottom left corner for 7-1. Three goals in the five minutes before half time and another 3 in the five after half time wrapped up the game as a contest and it was heading towards our best ever result. Another great strike came in the 36th minute as Thomas chipped the ball from the right edge of the area to an awaiting Edward. He volleyed the ball into the roof of the net with players all around him.

Two more minutes passed before Thomas got his double hat trick. He was on the right edge of the box and gently chipped the ball over the goalkeeper into the left corner of the goal. Finally, not wanting to miss out, Harry became the last scorer (ensuring all midfielders and attackers scored today). He drilled the ball powerfully from the right edge of the box. It was goal bound but Edward touched it in, even though he was on the Newton line.  As in the Waverton game, the goal was attributed to the striker as it was going in anyway.

Weather: Dry and sunny. Little wind. 18C.

Nomads attacked the playground end in the first half, on the pitch nearest the main road and entrance. As early as the 3rd minute, Callum played a sweeping ball across the box from the left touchline. It swerved outwards and Harry shielded it with his back to goal before laying it off to Thomas. Thomas cut in from his right foot to his left and shot from just inside the box but opposite the right hand goalpost. It was heading towards the top corner but the goalkeeper parried it downwards only for Ted to half volley into the bottom right hand corner.

Two minutes later Callum dribbled past a few Waverton players on the left, centred and Thomas drilled the ball wide of the left hand goalpost. Waverton started to find their game and pulled the defence apart with a fast break on 7 minutes. Harry did an excellent slide tackle to clear for a corner. The rest of the first half was subdued with no real chances to either team.

6 minutes into the second half (31 minutes) and Waverton were level. Sam P scored an individual goal breaking down the left at speed, passing the last defender and placing the ball nicely into the bottom left hand corner. From the centre, Nomads decided to shoot straight at the Waverton goal and immediately lost possession. Ted did a very good strong tackle near the half way line, rode 2 tackles and then slid the ball to Callum on the left wing. He played the ball inside to Ted who squared it for Edward to place in the bottom right hand corner.

On 34 minutes we were again exposed, this time on the left. Aayron did a great defensive tackle, before carrying the ball down the left wing. He passed the ball to Callum. Callum played the ball inside to Thomas who knocked it back to Callum. Without breaking stride it was knocked into the top right hand corner.

On 39 minutes Nomads went to sleep and Waverton were back in it with 2 attackers free. On 46 minutes we had enjoyed a few breaks down the right wing through Thomas. This time the defender was taking too long to clear the ball and Thomas robbed him. He took the ball to the byline and squared to Edward for a tap in. In the last minute there was another break and by now everyone wanted to score. Edward shot and this beat all the Waverton players and was only stopped on the line when it hit Thomas. He tapped it in but the goal was fairly attributed to Edward after the game as it was going in anyway. Congratulations on a good hat trick. Goals: Ted 3:30, Edward 32:00, Callum 34:20, Edward 46:00, Edward 48:30
