Report: A tough encounter at the Garrison. Nil nil at half time with Rup limping off with an injury that

Report: Oh dear. Missing the leadership of the boy Heely the 4ths struggled from the off. Players looked
l2: like they had been on the sauce for a week - and to a man they had of course. Whitegate had a few
l3: new faces and each one of these had a pair of speedy legs - always a problem.
l4: Call of the day - Rup making a guest appearance between the sticks; " 'Keepers ball"; immediately

Report:        A famous victory - bragging rights well earned. The best midfield performance for many a game;
l2: composure and bite - and a bit more bite. Jewsy marshalling events with aplomb. two great strikes

4th TEAM IN SHOCK DEFEAT

On Saturday 8th October the season's unbeaten run came to a shock end at Whitegate in a thrilling 3-2 reverse.
The return of Smithy between the sticks and the imposing figure of Will Baker gnawing at the leash on the bench gave a confident feel to to afternoon. As the match unfolded it became clear that Whitegate had misunderstood the gentleman's rules for the fixture and had drafted in 2 forwards with youth and pace - the experience and understanding of the mighty back 4 was going to be tested! Sadly the test was only the equivalent of an A level pass in needlework and the 4ths found themselves 3 down in half an hour. Stirring words were exchanged, particularly between Jewsy and Tim Maloney, as the team dug deep to get back into the contest. 5 minutes between half time, after good pressure, Si Owen gathered the ball on the edge of their area, turned on a dustbin lid, and powered a shot past the gropping Whitegate keeper to drag Chester back into the match. 3-1 at half time.
In the half time team talk Clarky finally got a word in edgeways and pointed out that 'their number 4 is runing the game - maybe we should mark him' The team pondered this masterstroke of tactical thinking and begrudgingly agreed. A plan was hatched and Chester took to the field with confidence. Unfortunately Whitegate substituted off the number 4 as half time and the master plan stumbled. Darren Taylor started to take command of the midfield for Chester and the introduction of Baker had no impact at all. Healy picked up the ball in his own half and went on a mazy run past 3 men and into the opposition box. His sublime lay off led to a great chance that was nearly taken. Healy returned to the back 4 ten minutes later wheezing and gasping with a ' did you see that' _expression - he didn't do that again! As Chester's pressure mounted Jewsy ghosted to the edge of the area to support the attack and the ball broke to him. With minimal back lift he toe-ended the ball with power and accuracy; the keeper flunge himself like an ageing Tommy Lawrence but was beaten as the ball cannoned off the underside of the bar and into the net; 3-2 and all to play for.
Chester powered forward in search of the equaliser; the opposition were pegged back, but the ball wouldn't run. A schoolboy error by Penders allowed their forward to break through, but faced with a 1 on 1 with Smithy he was deneid by the skill and experience of the big man - just 1 of 3 world class saves in the second half.
Finally Whitegate were happy hear the sound of the final whistle. The new showers in the village hall were tested and found to be excellent and the chips and butties in the Plough were up to the usual high standard.
Next week Liobians; we'll try not to lose the kit.
