What a fantastic game of football to finish the season. Against CNS All Stars Nomads proved just what a team can achieve when they pull together. From the off Nomads looked the most disciplined they have all season. Never giving CNS a moment to ponder on the ball, we closed down the play quickly, always thinking who should be tackling and who should be tracking back with the players.
When we had possession, which Opta Stats show we had the majority of, we used the ball well, moving forwards with skill, pace and determination. Nomads looked the stronger side in the first half and took a 1-0 win into the half time break thanks to a Mitch Mowatt poachers goal. The first half was the best Nomads had produced and we thoroughly deserved our lead. Callum E looked confident in the nets with Alex and Curtis forming a very good defensive partnership. Ethan and Sam started in central midfield and for most of the game controlled the runs from the New Scene middle. Out on the wings, Callum G, James and Leon interchanged to put pressure on the CNS defence and control their attacks. Mitch played the role of lone striker, he was full of running and held the ball up well for the rest of the team to join in on attack.
I'm not going to dwell on the second half too much other than to say I thought we deserved at least another goal for the splendid performance that we gave. At one time we went down to seven players as two had put so much effort in they simple couldn't catch their breath. What commitment from everyone, not one player today didn't give absolutely everything they had and can consider themselves unlucky not to get a draw or even a win. The winning goal again coming from an off-side position - can't wait for next season when that rule comes into play!
Well done lads, super football and a terrific game to watch.

It's coming home.... have things started to fall into place we ask? We won this game by learning the lessons from the Boughton game. You may recall that the things we needed to improve on where closing down when not in possession and releasing the ball quicker when we are. Boy did we do that today.
A hat-trick from Callum G who has been running himself into the ground of late and it was great to see him bag a few. Two from James, who was voted a share of MoM for his creative and skillful play and grabbing two. Alex and Leon scoring one a piece, Alex clearly winning the goal celebration competition! Sam was excellent in midfield alongside the ever consistent Ethan. Mike had some great runs and was strong in the tackle. Callum E is benefitting from the 1 to 1 coaching he's getting from John at the moment (thanks John). Mitch taking turns between right midfield and striker made a terrific nuisance of himself and was a handful for Celtic defence. And finally the other share of MoM was to Curtis who was disciplined at the back and kept the side looking balanced as well as starting some of our best moves from the back.
Roll on Saturday, we'll be looking to take what we doing forward onto another level.

A thrilling game played in great conditions at the Garrison Ground saw Nomads and Castrol Athletic battle out the second draw of this years campaign. A 2-2 draw back in Feb was repeated here today with the difference being we were chasing after going 2-0 down.
Castrol had some good spells of possession but on the whole their goals came against the run of play. Nomads responded well and a terrific move forward, saw some crisp first time passing just like we've been practicing. James received the ball on the left and cut inside for a sprinting Sam Jones to slot the ball calmly into the back of the net. Sam's first of the season was well deserved, playing more forwards than usual he did a great job in centre mid.
So, at half-time and 1-2 down, this week the talk was about getting players marked, don't all chase the ball - rather than all of us going to close down, leave it for the man closest and then pick up a free player. The second half was a tight encounter with Castrol clearly determined not to let the lead slip. Time was moving on fast when we finally found a gap... Ethan, pushing forwards from his defensive role in an 'all-or-nothing' tactic, managed to sneak the ball to James who added another to his impressive goal tally.
Two games to go, first priority is to enjoy our football - let's not forget that this is what it is all about... but as has been said, it's a lot more fun when you're winning! So, onwards we go, keep doing the right thing, close down fast, mark players at all times and when we are in possession move the ball about quickly. On a positive note, a lot of the goals we have conceded this year have been where we've left an unmarked player behind the defence - next year as we play the off-side rule, this route to goal will be closed off for our opposition.
Let's focus now on the two remaining games and give everything we've got to finish in some style. Well done lads

The old phrase of "a game of two halves" doesn't do justice to what happened tonight. From the kick off Boughton started brightly and within 2 minutes they struck a fierce shot from the right into the top corner. Heads dropped too easily allowing Boughton to take hold of the game.
Nomads couldn't get near JFC in the first 15 minutes and in reply they closed us down well when we were in possession. Every game provides a lesson whether we win, draw or lose. Today's was about time and space, and I don't mean the fabric of the cosmos! When we have possession we need to release the ball forwards and when we don't have it we need to close the players down quickly.
Time....There were too many occasions in the first half when we had the ball only to find a couple of blue shirts closing in fast - outnumbered we lost control of the play. When we played quicker, two-touch football we made a convincing display and that's why we came out the better in the second half.
So, onto space, if you give an opponent space they have the opportunity to get control of the ball and make a decision about what to do next, be that pass or dribble. A defender is most effective when they get close to an attacker and deny them any space - But, you have to do that quickly before they can control the ball.
At half time and 0-6 down all we could ask was to go out and win the second half. Did we believe we could? A show of hands said yes but it needed a huge effort to do so. A much better team performance, quick to close down, releasing the ball and a greater sense of urgency.
A fine display from Curtis, capped by a lovely goal which set us off for a great finish. Alex, what a storming run forward and what a strike, the run forward was only matched by the celebration run back after! And also another lovely header from Leon bringing his tally for the season into double figures. Despite the goals, Callum E played an important part, drawing good positive comments from one of the oppo's coaches who was particularly impressed with his speed off the line.
There's three games to go and if you play like you did in the second half for all of the next three games you never know what will happen. Let's complete the league season with a bit of passion and flair.

What can I say this week boys other than "Brilliant". Pete and I smiled all weekend long with the memory of the way you played today. This was probably the most disciplined performance we have seen from you, everyone held their positions well and the covering in all positions was excellent. A 5th clean sheet of the season was well deserved and should remind us that if the opposition doesn't score... we cannot lose!
As said at the end of the game, when you play football to that standard it's a lot more fun that when we're all chasing the individual glory and taking everyone on! So, keep up the quick passing and movement that you showed today and we'll have a great run-in to the end of season... and have bags of fun as well.
The game plan... with Sam and Callum G both delaying trips away for the good of the team and James getting on the pitch dispite feeling particularly unwell the plan was to make the ball work for us. In the first half we did this really well and were unlucky not to go into half time with a lead. Tigers have a well organised defence and are a hard unit to break down.
Half-time teamtalk consisted of "more of the same" - if you do the right things, the results will come. 30 seconds later, the first result came about when Callum G who was in inspired form on the right midfield, saw the Tigers keeper out of position and chipped to score a fabulous goal. Shortly after, Callum struck a great shot low and hard towards the far post (just as the coach says), James was on hand to change the direction of the ball and steer it into the back of the net.
Now looking in more control, the defensive trio of Sam, Ethan and keeper Callum never looked like conceeding. On the few occassions the ball broke towards Callum, he was as quick as ever to respond and stormed off his line to clear. Another Nomads attack saw the ball handled on the line by a Tiger defender. MItch slammed the ball past the keeper for 3-0. And on we went, more great movement and passing saw Mike Webb in space on the left... "shoot" we said and he did so, beating the keeper by slotting in next to the post. Terrific performance lads, enjoy the Easter break.

I can't take much more of this... I know I'm a bit biased but I thought we absolutely dominated this game and on another day could have scored 10, but we ended up with none.
Thanks to Mitch and Mike who both played despite having been poorly in the week, whilst it's good to have a small squad most weeks so they all get a decent game, it didn't pay off today. All the lads played well, but there are a few lessons to learn.
Over the last few years we've worked on getting players very comfortable with the ball at their feet (straight from the Premiership coaching manuals!)... what we need to do now is make the mental leap that it may be a better option to pass. A number of times today, we could have moved the ball up field quicker by spreading the ball around. So, at training on Monday, we're going to hear a lot of words like "pass" and "release".
We've got a team of very very good players, all good with the ball at their feet and maybe that's been our problem today, we're too happy with the ball at our feet! Let's start making quick decisions and see for ourselves what the results will be... "That's My Goal"
Leon was man of the match today. Why? Because all the time he did the simple things like passing and moving into space - well done Leon.

What can you say?. Despite warnings of showing the right attitude we were caught out by an early goal. We did start to play some good football and James pulled one back but... as things were not going our way, we became frustrated with ourselves and each other. This meant that we were not working as a team and didn't know who was doing what and lapses of concentration all over cost us goals. Whilst we want to enjoy our football and not get too serious about it (it's only a game they say) this was a performance that we will not repeat again! Let's get things right from here boys, you are all very good players, we WILL get better and ultimately enjoy our football more.

On a cold day and one of only a few fixtures to survive Nomads started brightly and kept to the Nomads philosophy of playing attractive football. We're really starting to make good decisions about when to pass and when to dribble and it's causing the opposition no end of headaches. James opened the scoring with a superb shot from a tight angle into the roof of the net. Mitch continued his scoring run with a poachers goal. Callum E made some fine saves, We looked sharp defensively with Alex playing well (and setting up Mitch's goal), Sam did well but was sadly injured early on, Leon stepped in and played a very intelligent game, Ethan performing as solidly as Essien in the middle. Mike and Callum G in the main out on the wings did very well, great footwork from both. James playing again in a number of positions looked sharp and strong, Mitch was mainly up front and led the front line very well. Good game, disappointing not to win but hey, that's football and the boys were superb. This draw takes us into third place in the league boys - well done!

Nomads are back! Against a strong Panthers side Nomads took control of the game very early on and dominated possession in every area of the pitch. Callum E who is back to his best in goal, the new defensive trio of Sam, Alex and Ethan is working superbly - the opposition find it so hard to break that unit down; James filling in at four different positions on the day; Callum G was in fantastic form on the right side of midfield; Mike W on the left had a very busy first half and performed fantastically; Leon on his return after illness showed us what we have missed with a great game and Mitch, starting in central midfield banging the goals in for fun. Well done lads.

Callum Evington & Ethan Jones - both brilliant today
Super game of football played out between these two sides again. With nothing between them last week, it was pretty much the same this. Saughall started a bit brighter but Nomads looked a solid outfit and where defensively good. Didn't create too much in the first half as Saughall won most of the loose ball. An unlucky bounce from a tackle saw the ball land to the Colts striker who slotted home for a 1-0 lead. Some half-time words of inspiration brought the Nomads to life. Pitching camp in the Saughall half finally saw us draw level with a goal from the outstanding Ethan. Everyone raised their game in this half and we had a number of chances before Eth passed to James who picked out the corner of the goal to take the game. Tense finish but a win that was well deserved.

When was that? Well, this week was slower than last as it took us a whole 75 seconds l2: to knotch the first goal today. A sharp attack saw the Colts keeper tip it around for a corner. From l3: the right James swung a lovely ball over for Alex to nod home. I thought we would have our defender l4: back after last weeks goal but this week Alex when one better and went nap (that's scoring two boys!)
l4: Nomads showed great character to keep battling for the draw, nothing less than we deserved. l5: Callum E played well in the nets again, caught out by a wicked deflection off one of the infamous l6: Saughall Mole-hills - nothing he could do for that one. Mikey getting better all the time; good l7: performances from Ethan, Alex and Sam in defence; Mitch a great performance in midfield despite a l8: toe injury and James & Callum really starting to connect up front. Phew! What a relief to see some of our good play turn into goals. We started well with the firm objective of keeping our discipline and shape, and it began with only 48 seconds on the clock. A great move saw James in free space to cooly slot past the Ferry keeper. Have the days of our slow starts gone now? A couple of lapses in concentration meant we conceded two when Ferry seemed the more determined side. However, we then started to motor and three excellent goals followed from in-form Callum G, another from James and finally one for Alex - a fully deserved reward for his season so far.
Great team performance all over...
Callum E great between the sticks; Sam solid and cool at the back; Leon, a great performance even
lthough not 100% fit; Micky slotting some great passes cross field; Ethan was commanding; Alex roaming the field
lwith good effect; James on form with lovely vision, Mitch, powerful runs and some clever passing and Callum G
all over the pitch and bagged a fantastic hat-trick.
We now need to keep up the habit of winning. Well done boys

Disappointing way to end for the Christmas break. Nomads had the majority of possession in the first half but from about
10 chances, could only manage the one goal. Newton clipped one in before the break to go in level at half time.
Much improved focus and attitude in the first half from the previous weeks but it didn't bring the just rewards.
Illness to a few players took their toll, and in the end we found ourselves on the very wrong end of a 4-1 score line.
Hard to believe that's how it ended!
We'll take a well earned break now, regroup to be a stronger side in the New Year. Merry Christmas to all.

Fortunately it is not often that we l3: have so many lapses in concentration but today Boughton must have felt like Christmas had come l4: early. We should learn from this by having the right attitude both in the warm-up and at kick off. l5: We have scored a lot of goals this year but we must also remember that it is a team game and we all l6: need to defend and hold our positions as given by the coaches.
