Match Report By Mihir Bose

An enthralling game at HQ. with honours being shared. Nomads took an early two goal lead in the first minute through our "deadly duo", Dixon and Ap Gareth and were threatening to run away with it when they went in at the interval 3-0 up through a second Dixon goal.Credit to Upton who came back into the game and had narrowed the gap to a single goal in the next ten minutes.

The last twenty minutes saw Upton secure an equaliser with two minutes to go breaking through the "human barrier" that is Connor Bilsland!!! Ap Gareth , looking strangely tired, and a dosed up Dixon couldn`t break through to score the winner. Credit goes to Dixon who had jumped off his sickbed to help the cause and gave everything!!

So the end of an excellent season with the team making a great deal of progress. Players such as Walker, Pickering and Chadwick typify this looking unrecognisable from last season. The coaches at our local clubs want their "bumps"feeling if they feel that there are better players in the city in their positions than David Baird, Jack Dixon and Connor Bilsland!! Ilan Ap Gareth and his goals have taken us up a level this year and Elliot King`s recovery and transformation into goalscoring hero has had the Hollywood script writers knocking at our door!!!! And what of Jack Carey who carries the burden of being the " gaffer`s son ", well twenty goals conceeded and numerous matchwinning saves have helped establish a reputation of being one of league`s best.

Thanks must go to my assistant, Chris King for his unstinting support and reffing duties, silly comments from certain oppositions coaches aside (people and glass houses, I love it!!). We have been greatly helped by a great set of parents and grandparents (step forward Mr Derek Chadwick!!!) throughout. Finally thanks to a great set of boys who have given us more pleasure than they will ever know.

A convincing win and a very strong showing from the Nomads. Goals were scored in every quarter and a consolation only conceeded in the second quarter. Ap Gareth and Dixon linked well up front with each scoring a hat trick. Chadwick and MOM King weighed in with a goal a piece.

The warm up was largely dispensed with prior to the start of the game as it was felt by the coaching staff that the trek to the pitch, situated as it was in the furthest corner of the Dale Camp, was deemed to be enough!! The pitch reminded me of cup upsets of yesteryear (think Yeovil slope, Hereford mudbath!!!) seemingly being picked for it`s ability to act as a great leveller!!

However, the Nomads showed that they were made of sterner stuff with them taking a two goal lead in the first quarter with goals from Keegan and Toshack up front (the shot from Dixon is apparently still in orbit and being tracked by NASA as we speak!!!) !

The second quarter saw us conceed but score through a good solo Ap Gareth effort. This quarter also saw Carey limp off at the end after stepping on a landmine cunningly disguised in one corner!! Carey tried , in the best footballing tradition, to "run off" the injury in the third quarter but to no avail! However, he did manage to complete a 60 length one KM swim at 4.30 so the "injury" is not career threatening!!

Thankfully in the third quarterJamie Chadwick showed more poise and balance to finish than his ole` fella had showed the previous evening with his Chinese take away!! That "goal machine" King was on hand to pick up his third goal in four matches in the fourth quarter and Dixon rounded off proceedings and completed his hat trick. I would like to point out here that Jack Pickering missed the game through an ear infection and not as a result of getting lost in the tall savanna grass !!!!

A fine display by the Nomads resulted in an impressive win at H.Q. Goals from the partnership of Ap Gareth and Dixon (two apiece) coupled with a solitary strike from the boy Pickering did the damage against a strong Tattenhall side who replied with a consolation goal in the last quarter.

Misinformation about the kick off time nearly led to the match being put back but we managed to scrape a team together!! Passing, which has so often been our strength this season once again proved to be the undoing of the opposition. The speed and also accurancy of the passing was extremely pleasing.

The defence, once again proved to be rock solid with Bilsland, Walker and Chadwick (sounds like a legal firm!!) proving to be virtually impregnable. Although Chadwick didn`t get forward as much this weekend, prompting the suggestion that his pre- match haircut had had a Samson like effect upon his strength!!

MOM Carey was along with Walker and goalscoring hero, Pickering versatility personified mixing goalkeeping and field duties in a manner that Ajax would be proud of!!! Dixon and Ap Gareth led the line very well with the Dixon "rocket " goal , in particular, catching the eye!!! kIng nearly added to his recent goalscoring form but was thrawted by a solid keeper.

Baird and Lee bossed the midfield in a Ronaldo and Carrick combination (Lee due to daily application of moisturiser just gets the Ronaldo vote at the present time!!). So the run continues!! The only sour note of the morning concerns the appearance of Pickering without his regulation club tie and blazer!! First "sockgate" and now this!! Management have acted quickly to stop any kind of dissent in the camp and avoid any accusations of "losing the dressing room" !!!

A very good result for the under eights against a very determined Saughall team. An own goal was all that separated the two sides in the first two quarters. The slender margin was added to with goals coming from King, Pickering and MOM Baird in the last twenty minutes. Saughall scored a consolation in the closing minutes.

The pitch at Saughall was long and thin which led many of us to think of the European night that Graeme Souness had made the Ibrox pitch narrower in an attempt to negate the oppositions` wingers! To be fair it made for a tricky first quarter as both sides struggled to adapt to the pitch.

An own goal was just reward for our attacking play in the first twenty minutes. Good passing, so often a feature of our play this year, was much in evidence and the crowd were treated to some good moves that but for an effective opposition goalie would have resulted in more goals!! The Saughall goalie to be fair tried on several occasions to lose the Nomads match ball in the brook running alongside the pitch but failed. If Brian Ashton is looking for a replacement for Jonny Wilkinson then it would be worth having a trip to Saughall to check him out!!!

The goals scored by the team reflected, quite nicely, three main game skills. Baird`s at the end of a good team passing move, Pickering`s coming as a result of a trademark dribble and King "smashing", (yes smashing!!) the ball home showing us how to shoot properly!!!

Defensively, we were strong and Saughall scored with their only shot of the game with a goal that was well- taken that Carey had little chance with. Midfield was the one area that Nomads dominated none more so than MOM Baird who coped admiradly with the long and high goal kicks!! In summary, a hard fought victory and a very good team effort. On a more disturbing note there has been an increase in non regulation sock wearers with the three culprits on a verge of a club fine after being summoned to the manager`s office and warned about their future conduct!!!! We know who you are and you have been warned!! Any problems regarding the purchase of socks are to be directed to Mr Richard Baird who will be happy to help with any enquires!!!

What a fantastic result against a team who had gone through the season having lost only once! What`s more the win was achieved with Nomads coming from two goals behind. The first quarter saw Nomads develop stage fright, quickly succumbing to a brekaway goal and looking decidely out of sorts.

The second quarter was the defining ten minutes of the game. After conceeding a second goal things started to click. Dixon and Ap Gareth sent two rockets into the top corner to level things! Very much game on!!! The third quarter saw us take the lead for the first time in the match with Ap Gareth once again making the difference.

The second "half" of the game saw Nomads dominate and really impose themselves, breaking up attacks and attacking at will. The midfield of Baird, Lee and Pickering grew in stature and stood firm to repel any attacks.

Defensively, Bisland, Chadwick and Walker were solid allowing Carey to have a relatively quiet time in goal. Carey silenced the boo boys with a series of kicks, although we almost lost the will to live waiting for them!!!

Ap Gareth, King (showing some good touches!!) and Dixon worked extremely hard. Dixon had to pressed into action for longer than expected, thus missing out on the champagne reception and ceremonial cutting of the ribbon at Jumping Jacks!! All in all, a very good team effort but slightly overshadowed by the reappearance of Pickering`s Bolton Wanderers socks that resulted in a club fine!! Purple or black, Jack we`re onto you!!

Just as everyone of a certain generation always remembers where they were at 12.30pm on Friday, November 22nd, 1963 so people of our generation will remember 11.13am on February 17th, 2007. Yes the boy King has done it !!!! Following up a shot from Ap Gareth, he reacted first to smash the ball into the back of the net for his first goal for the Nomads!! The coaching team are now hoping that just as the events in Dealey Plaza, Dallas proved to be a watershed moment in American politics so this morning`s goal will prove to be a seminal moment in Master King`s footballing education!! It could not have been set up better with a script that even Santiago Nunez would have struggled to have pulled off with both mum and dad in attendance!!

This was a convincing victory from the Nomads who dictated proceedings from start to finish. Passing, so often our strength this season, was again of a high standard and really was the telling difference. Some moves resulted in play being switched from both sides of the pitch with devastating effect!

Once again the forward pairing of Ap Gareth and "Chronicle pin- up" Jack Dixon (or is it Dickson!!) did the damage with six strikes and but for some inspired goalkeeping it would have been more. Lee had an outstanding match, showing all the poise and balance of a seasoned professional, bagging a goal and the MOM award.

Pickering added another other goal but events concerning the boy King made everything pale in comparison!! Who says there`s no romance in football !! Roll on Blacon..........

P.S congratulations to Mike Appolonio who won the Nomad of the year award at the annual pesentation at the club on Friday. Mike gives unselfishly of his time on a regular basis and along with our secretary, Jayne Piggot has been a constant source of support. Well done Michael, we salute you!

A very convincing display by the under eights. Pickering was immense today with a more than competent "sweeper keeper" role coupled with a match ball for his hat- trick and all performed in front of his watching grandma and mum (talk about perfect timing, if that doesn`t secure a raise on his pocket money, nothing will!!!!).

Ap Gareth weighed in with two well taken efforts and was his usual predatory self! Dixon combined with him well to try to set up what would have been the piece de resistance i.e E.J. scoring. Eliott was always in the right positions and showed plenty of fight (learnt in a series of self- defence classes taught by his cousin, who can be contacted on www.i`msambakeryougotaproblemwiththat.co.uk!!) but try as he might it just didn`t happen!!!

Baird also scored and played well in his "experimental role" (his words not mine!!). Bilsland and Chadwick were calmness personified in both defence and midfield. Lee had his own game of "crossbar challenge" hitting the "woodwork" on no fewer than three occasions and passing extremely well.

Carey was subdued and was the subject of a post match inquiry following an incident in the second quarter!! The coaches are concerned that his schoolboy friendship with the nephews of Robbie Savage may be having a negative effect!! He has been fined a weeks wages (well pocket money £3) and been warned about his future conduct!!!

Plans are at an advanced stage to re arrange the postponed game against Blacon Youth at "fotress Boughton" for next Saturday (10am k.o.) but may fall foul of Police regulations stipulating a fortnights notice for games to go ahead. Walker, absent today, is busy preparing, as we speak, pounding the hills of North Wales. Dedication, no t.v.no playstation, no gameboy, just hard graft (that`s my boy!!).

A really professional performance against a spirited Colts team. The first twenty minutes of the game dictated the end result. The second quarter, from the Coaches point of view was a vindication of all the hard work done on the training ground. Some of the moves involving several passes swept the whole length of the pitch and were very pleasing on the eye.

The goals came at just the right time to steady the ship. Dixon and Ap Gareth were at their best with terrific movement and three cracking finishes between them. Walker takes the prize for the best goal celebration (very Young Lee Sharpe, yes kids he used to play a bit on the field too!!) heading for the corner flag and not quite knowing what to do when he got there!! Sky Sports has got a lot to answer for!!

However, the finest point of the morning surely arrived at 10.42 am when the boy Bilsland stepped up to the mantle and finally bagged his first goal for the club and duly won homself a luxury holiday to the Bahamas promised to him by his proud parents!! Parents had difficulty trying to get out of the car park at the end of the game as a result of local t-shirt sellers sensing an opportunity to make a fast buck by selling celebratory, " Iwas there" t-shirts!!! In all fairness there wasn`t a dry eye in the house!! Who says there no romance in football anymore!!

E.J. King is now to be instructed to take all set pieces and to be passed to at all times irrespective of how close the player in possession is to the goal!!! The strict diet of Guiness and steak for breakfast is beginning to bear fruit and his week with the sport scientists at Club La Santa should help!! An audience with the Pope has been sought in an all out effort to get him to register his goal!!

Onward and upward gentlemen, onward and upward ! Bring on Elton!!

Match Report By: Four Four Two magazine

A good win for the under 8`s where work down on the training ground the previous evening paid off!! Having counted all the players before the start to make sure that none had blown away we started the first quarter brightly with Ap Gareth and Pickering putting us two nil up within five minutes! However, we then sat back assuming that the job was done.

Tackles were not being won and self- responsibilty went out of the window. The second quarter was a horror show with Pickering exposed on three separate occasions. The pressure got to our stand in keeper with tears being shed!! That Sky and it`s foreign invasion have got a lot to answer for!!

I`m pleased to report that the third quarter saw a devastating comeback by the boys masterminded by the tactical nous of the coach! The masterplan involved the boy Baird being placed in goal due to his long kick and to make use of both slope and wind. What followed was an aerial bombardment (actually I`d like to think of it as more a series of surgical strikes!) that Fash and the boys would have been proud of!! Ap Gareth was the recipient with three clinical finishes, Pickering weighed in with one and Dixon`s strike was in faster than you could say " goa........." !

Carey, coming out of goal to good effect had a couple of bites at the cherry before he pulled out a plum with a good finish to complete the blitz!! By the third quarter Ap Gareth was running riot with two match balls to his name bagging both goal number five and six (I need to check that they are our balls and not taken from the colts bag!!). King then nearly brought the house down with an effort of his own!

In summary, a game of three quarters! A devaststing spell in the third was good enough to seal it. All the squad made a positive contribution with Baird, Walker, Bilsland and Chadwick providing the solidity and springboard for the attacks. A well-deserved MOM goes to Dixon who never stopped working for his team mates. Best wishes are extended to Jordan Lee who is flying out on Learjet to meet with the club`s top surgeon in Colarado to work on his troublesome ankle in order to get him fit for next Saturday. Many thanks to Mr Moss for placing the jet at our disposal.

A fine result for the Under 8`s against a very good Westminster Park outfit. The pleasing element about the game was the longer it went on the stronger the lads became! Shaking off the proverbial new year hangover was indeed the order of the day with several players seemingly shaken by the strength of the opposition after a run of less taxing encounters!!!!

A mix up by Walker and Carey led to an oggie being conceeded. Both players admitted, post match, that a "David James" like addiction to Playstation over the Christmas break (and the Smackdown versus Raw game in particular, rated 16 I believe!!) had led to their below par concentration in the run- up to the goal!!!

So, we found ourselves changing at the end ofthe first quarter in unfamilar territory, i.e losing and playing below our best. The players picked up the tempo with stronger challenges being put in by all concerned!! A couple of Julian Dicks like challenges by the boy Bisland even earned a talking to by the Ref ( I blame the influx of foreigners. In my day they would have been referred to as "robust" !)

The third quarter was the quarter when we awoke from our stupor. Dixon hammered a howitizer to draw us level. It was revealed later that Jack was able to pack so much punch due to his decision to devote his life to fishing and football, having got rid of his harem this week (apparently Hugh Hefner has been informed!!) !!

Ap Gareth made it safe with two good finishes in the last quarter making it neck and neck with Dixon for the Golden Boot award!! In the end it was a very good SQUAD performance with everyone involved right from Carey in goal (who had to make two sharp saves), through the defence of Bilsland, Walker and Chadwick (sounds like a good law firm!!), the midfield of Baird, Pickering and well- deserved MOM Lee who more than ably supported the front three of King, Dixon and Ap Gareth!! Well done boys, roll on next week!!

Match Report By:Goal erector, Pitch marker, admimnistrator, coach, ref.....................

What a relief. After five weeks of inactivity and Playstation games the Nomads were back in business, accepting an invitation to take part in a round- robin tournament kindly organised by Dave Bolton of the Colts. The tournie saw us pitched against teams from Mold, Penn-y-fordd and our very own Colts. The formatt was three twenty minute games.

The opening game saw us pitched against Mold, arguably the strongest opposition we would face according to Coach Bolton`s scouting reports!! The game was very even with both sides contesting every ball and making light of a very tricky surface. MOM Chadwick had a cracking game, breaking up attacks and surging forward at every opportunity. Ap Gareth and Dixon combined well up front with Ap Gareth finishing well on three occasions to take a well deserved hat-trick. The important thing to take away from the game was the commitment shown by the team with GK Carey only having to handle the ball on two occasions!!

The second game against Nomads Colts saw us turn in the sort of performance that would have the paying public turning away in droves!! Credit to the Colts who were dogged in their resistance and gave a good account of themselves. Going in 1-0 up at HT flattered us, but was just reward for Chadwick`s MOM in the previous game. Further goals by Carey (coming out of goal thanks to Dixon volunteering) and Walker put a nicer complexion on the game. Definately one filed under played poorly but won category!! Mind you Coach King and myself resisted the temptation (unlike the coach of our opposition in the third game!!) to line our players up against the wall and give them the "hairdryer treatment" with a foaming at the mouth dog trying to get over the fence at them!! (An interesting psychological coaching aid that the tutor on our recent Level 1 cert. failed to mention!!)

The third and final game saw us come up against the Penn-y-fordd team. A goal in each half scored by Dixon and Pickering settled the issue. Bilsland was outstanding in defence, tackling well and distributing it quickly to our front men. Lee was also in inspired form surging forward down the left wing at every opportunity.

So to re-cap, a good day`s football with both boys and parents enjoying a very pleasant couple of hours in the Winter sunshine. Happy New Year to one and all and, in the words of Coach King, "have a good one!!"

Match Report By: Hugh Mcillavenny

A good victory for the lads that keeps the bandwagon rolling along just nicely! Waverton were spirited throughout but had no answer to some clinical strikes from Nomads. Squad rotation was the order of the day and it was pleasing to see both Carey and Chadwick get their first goals of the season as a result.

The boy Dixon had another fine match scooping the MOM for the second week running with six well taken goals. Ap Gareth had a fine game alongside him bagging four making sure they are both neck and neck for the golden shoe award!! Lee once again deservedly netted.

Baird, once again bossed midfield and was ably supported by Walker who was playing only as part of an agreement of his ASBO!! Bilsland had little to do and at one point had to make a timely interception as a Waverton forward disturbed him whilst he was putting up his deckchair!!

Carey and Chadwick again showed their versatility by switching positions easily and netting as a result. Pickering, back from failed talks at the Nou Camp was able to put his troubles behind him and showed what a consumate professional he is by putting in a good performance. Although how long his purple fetish will continue to be indulged only time will tell!!

So onward and upward. Let`s hope that Bolton`s Colts can inflict another defeat on the wasps after having been stung by the Hornets 3-0.

Match Report By:John Sadler

Some of the football played today by the Under Eights would have graced any pitch. The scoreline was emphatic, the standard of football stratopheric! The seven players did themselves and parents proud. An opening period of five goals hinted at a free flowing game and the team did not disappoint against a strong Waverton who contributed themselves to a very enjoyable match.

It was extremely hard to single anyone out but Dixon got the coaches vote for his tireless running, three well- taken goals, and positive attitude (he`s back!!!). Ap Gareth weighed in with five and the pair of them were an absolute menace all game!! Baird`s range of passing and awareness of his team mates were exceptional. Lee was strength and poise personified and richly deserved his goal.

Carey, walker and Chadwick at the back were solid and more than happy to play out from the back and link with both midfield and attack. It was a pleasure to watch and Sky definately made the wrong decision to screen ties from that lesser known competition, the F.A cup!!!

So the bar has been raised, can we keep it up?! With Bilsland back next week and Pickering`s transfer to Barcelona falling through due to personal terms (apparently Rijkard refused to sanction the wearing of Bolton PURPLE socks and would`nt hear of sweets twice a week and a beefburger post- match!!) it`s looking good. On ward and upward!! As a post script, well done to Dave and the Colts who had their first win of the season, get in!!!

Match Report By:Shoot!

Fireworks off the pitch, fireworks on it (quite literally as a stray rocket had to be removed before kick- off!!) ! Nomads started and ended this match on a high. The forward pairings in particular ran the show with Dixon, Ap Gareth (just pipping the MOM on account of his four goals) and Lee very pleasing on the eye.

The first quarter saw a very Arsenal build up finished off by Pickering with four passes from Carey the GK through the team to the goalscorer! These ten minutes saw us play some of the best football of the season and but for a little bit more composure in front of goal and a very effective Gk we would have increased our lead.

The second quarter saw Carey come out of goal and give a good account of himself alongside the equally impressive Bilsland. Chadwick did everything but score as, once again, he was Mr Dependable. King continued his steady progress taking part in two quarters. Baird, surviving a late fitness test carried out by Coach King and Dr Walker C.S.P. was excellent with his range of passing and vision. Walker, regardless of position was excellent once again.

Pickering weighed in with one goal and, for one quarter (much to his fathers delight on the line!!) kept the goals out at the other end!! A very strong finish in the four quarter saw Lee grab a second and Ap Gareth picking up the Champagne with a four goal flourish!! An extremely impressive performance that had us reaching for the cigars long before the finish!!

The mark of a good team has always been how they react following a defeat in the previous game. The under eights ticked all the boxes with a really strong performance. A first quarter blitz of three goals effectively sealed the win. 2-0 up courtesy of an own goal (just like the buses at the moment!!) and a Dixon strike, Baird grabbed the third just before the whistle.

If it`s good enough for Ferguson, Benitez and Mourinho then it`s good enough for Chester Nomads. What is, I hear you ask?! Why squad rotation of course!! King and Carey rang in the changes with all the players playing outside their normal positions ( and comfort zones!!) to good effect.

Walker was extremely effective in goal and deserves his MOM for being a real good team member by volunteering to be Gk all game!! Carey, Bilsland, King and JAMIE Chadwick were tenacious in the tackle and effective users of the ball.

Pickering, as always, was enthusiasm personified. Lee and Baird were excellent in their use of the ball. Dixon and Ap Gareth are combining to devastating effect on a weekly basis and today was no exception!! One of Dixon`s goal was officially measured as being harder than anything Jimmy Case or Allan Clarke could ever produce!!

Overall, a pleasing day at the office and bodes well for the Champions League mini break. The Nomads are in action again on November 4th and both Police and Blacon (the hosts) are urging fans to get their tickets early for the game as a large crowd is expected!! Coach Carey meanwhile is off on a scounting mission to Tenerife amid rumours circulating the club that overseas players are being lined up! All I can say is remember West Ham and Alan Pardew!!!

Match Report By:Reuters

As the great man Mr. Mick Jagger once said, "You can`t always get what you wanna", and so it proved at Dale Camp! The game was a great advert for youth football with both sides being really positive in their outlook. The first quarter was a really end to end contest with the Upton Gk looking to score himself on a couple of occasions!

The second quarter saw the introduction of Bolton`s finest, a.k.a Jack Pickering, after a two month lay off. A punishing re-hab programme ( including a stay in an oxygen tent, courtesy of the Walker family) has seen Jack appear back ahead of schedule! A series of mazy runs in this quarter unfortunately went unrewarded but it was lovely to see the big man back. Just to quash any malicious rumours, no Craig Allardyce has not been in touch!!!

Upton scored twice through two own goals as Chadwick misjudged a through pass and blocked a shot! Again, like last week it says a lot for his (and the team`s) strength of character that he was able to bounce back in the manner that he did. So we faced going into half time 2-0 down having had a real good quarter.

However, all was not lost as we came bursting out of the traps and got a own goal of our on 22 minutes as reward. Just as it seemed as if again we would leave the barracks with nothing to show for our efforts up popped Dixon to level things! However, then hearbreak as deep into "injury time" Upton grabbed the winner.

This was again a fantastic result and some of our football today was excellent with the lads really doing themselves justice. Ap Gareth just eased ahead of several cotenders as MOM......................."But if you try sometimes you might find you`ll get what you need"....................

A great advert for the beautiful game at H.Q. The kick- off was brought forward , on Police advice, as a result of crowd congestion! Such has been the form of the Under Eights that they are becoming a big draw and this match, coming after a pleasing pre- season, was eagerly anticipated!!

The first quarter saw Nomads surge forward at every opportunity and really take the game to the opposition. The defence of Bisland, Walker, Chadwick and Carey was rock solid and didn`t conceed until the 28th minute. The second quarter saw Nomads play some of their best football with the opening goal, scored by Ap Gareth, coming after a flowing move that resulted in four players passing the ball from goal keeper to goalscorer.

The third quarter saw Nomads throw caution to the wind abandoning the midfield and pushing up to try to kill the game! The unconventional technique borrowed from the Ossie Ardilies coaching book, "My time at Newcastle Utd. and Spurs" resulted in a very Ardilies conclusion! That is scoring at one end (through a fine Ap Gareth finish) and conceeding at the other!!!

The fourth quarter was frentic with both sides pushing forward. With a bit more composure we may have increased our lead. However with the match throwing up more twists and turns than a Christmas Soap Opera special we ended up conceeding an oggie!! Poor Bilsland, who had had an otherwise excellent game, misjudged a header and with Carey sranded in no- mans land the ball sailed into the net.

In summary, an excellent game against oppo that we had lost heavily to twice last season . Lee was deservedly mom showing strength and good dribbling. Baird showed a good range of passing. Up front the partnership of Dixon and Ap Gareth is really looking promising and should relive last season`s pressure on Dixon always to score! Finally well done to E.J for continuing his promising re-hab.

What a scintellating match, played out against a backdrop of thunder and lightning (and to quote Freddie Mercury, "very, very frightening!"). Vauxhall proved to be a strong, physical test for the under 8`s who just refused to buckle!! Each time they were behind, Nomads had the strength of character to battle their way back into the game.

The Stranglers may have decried the lack of hereos but rest assured there were eight of them out there today in gold and black (think Ince in Rome, Butcher in Stockholm...)!! Dixon and Ap Gareth were on fire, complementing each other well with the third goal in particular very pleasing on the eye, coming as it did at the end of a flowing move. Dixon may be having trouble with his love life but being the consumate professional, he put his domestic situation behind him to turn in an excellent display!!

The midfield general, Baird was again tigerish in the tackle and King more than made up for lack of fitness with good nuisance value!! Lee was strong in the tackle and his range of passing excellent. Bilsland and Chadwick were like a paring of old fashioned centre halves, not allowing anything past at any cost.

Carey produced three vital stops, having got over the initial shock of sustaining muddy shorts in the warm- up and could`nt be faulted for any of the goals. The lads even managed to keep their composure when a suspected "kids for justice" protest was thrawted on the opposite touchline by a quick thinking Vauxhall official who managed to stop the child clad in a spiderman outfit from invading the pitchl!!

So the Newton clash is eagerly awaited but several questions remain. Will the Pickering family be present or will they still be maintaining their their candlelit vigil outside Sam Allardyce`s house?!! Will Daniel Walker be fighting fit after his vigourous pre- season work- out on those Welsh sand dunes? Will Dixon choose money before love??!! All will be revealed soon...................................

What a sensational start to the seaon at Thackerey Drive where the hard pre- season work undertaken by the under eights resulted in six goals being scored and total domination throughout. A real team effort typified by the likes of Carey producing two classy saves to deny the opposition. Two strikes that would have produced the reverse of the first quarter scoreline last season.

An own goal sent us on our way and Dixon quickly added a second to leave Coach King almost speechless at the break. Coach Carey was absent at the match. Superstar status has obviously got to him as he had sucummed to an Van Der Saar type virus rendering him unavailable for football of any kind on Saturday!!!

Baird was sensational in midfield breaking the oppositions attacks up and then distributing in a calm and measured way (think Scholesy, who incidently Jack and I once met in the Gents, more about that another time!!) and just edges the MOM. Bilsland and Chadwick were tigerish in defence not allowing anything through. Carey was reaching for a cigar and thinking of the cumulative attack points of all of his Yu- Gi -Oh cards long before the end so solid was the wall of steel in front of him!!!

Lee, in midfield was poise and balance personified (where have we seen those twisting hips before.......?!!!), threading passes through to the front pairing of Dixon and Ap Gareth (yes, just like all the top sides these days we have invested in some foreign skill!!!) who have a genuine look of quality about them scoring five goals between them and communicating in an almost telepathic way (spookily reminiscent of that programme about Toshack and Keegan, yes I know it was fake but at the time it looked real!!)

Completing the line up and bringing a tear to the eye was the Under Eights very own Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, step forward, Eliot King!! After months of intensive physio to a broken femur he was back! Following in the footsteps of bizarre footballers injuries (think Beasant with the salad jar, Canizares juggling the bottle of aftershave pre- world cup, Stensgaard with the ironing board !) King "sustained" his injury playing British Bulldog!! Obviously there are still parts of our Education system that the HSE has still to penetrate!!! Nice to see you back, E.J. Well done boys, lets hope we can build upon this. Onward and upward!!
