This weekend saw the first XI take action in the Cheshire Cup against fellow league team Neston Nomads.
The matches against Neston over the past few seasons have been very close and this game looked like it was going to be no different.
With a few noticeable absentees from previous weeks it allowed the gaffer to give himself a run back in at centre half alongside Joe Johnson.
Josh’s Carew and Fennell both came in to the middle of the park alongside skipper Ed Moss and Manny and Jord Lee sat either side of Sam Lloyd in attack.
Once again on another 4G pitch the game started at a high tempo and the lads looked to take an early lead getting down both wings.
After his recent player of the month award Jord Davies was getting himself into some excellent positions but struggled with his final ball.
After 25 minutes an early shout for goal of the season, the boys at the back moved it around well keeping possession, Ed Moss then managed to get some space and ping a 40 yard cross field ball met first time by the run of Charlie Mann who hit a Van Persie esque volley past the Neston keeper.
1-0 remained the score thanks to a brilliant save once again by Minsh in the Nomads goal five minutes before the half.
As half time approached a Neston player hit the deck asking for a penalty, as he rose to his feet he decided to throw a head butt at one of the nomads lads which resulted in an early bath. Rumor has it the same lad was dismissed in both games last year as well. Think he might need to calm down a little.
Second half the nomads lads moved the ball round well and took advantage with the extra man.
Bouncing the ball round well in the middle and getting down both flanks allowed the boys to utilize the space and 10 minutes gone Jord Lee found himself with yards to run into as it was 4 on 3 in Nomads favour, as he looked up he struck the ball into the far corner. Good job it went in, the Moss Bros and Manny didn’t look too happy until the net rustled.
Neston pulled one back shortly after through a great lobbed finish but the next ten minutes was all about one Mann as Charlie weaved his way in and around the Neston defence getting himself a further two goals and completing his hat trick.
The final score was 4-1 although the FA site said 7-2 claiming Jord Lee scored 4.
We’ll still make him get the jug in this week.
The lads will now face Broadheath in the next round in October.
