Thirds - Hard-Fought Victory Secures Crucial Points Against Upton

3rds battled hard for a 2-0 victory over Upton. Discipline, hard work and a touch of class from Ben Coward saw us take home 3 well earned points.

Started slowly and Upton applied the pressure from the outset, but we held strong and didn’t really give them any clear cut chances; apart from us needing a top save from GK Tom Williamson. A through ball latched onto by Ben Coward saw him 1-on-1 with the keeper, finishing coolly.

2nd half we saw less of the ball but managed the game well, keeping shape. Again Ben Coward running down the wing with a rapid burst of pace and a square ball across the box for a tap for John Platten.

Every man battled hard today. Ben Coward and Jeffsy stand out players today, a big performance for Joe Cossins too - 90 mins under the belt.

Crucial points against near opposition in the table sees us keep climbing

Fourths Secure Historic Victory to Reach First Final

Sam Gregory on target for the 4ths
Sam Gregory on target for the 4ths

Chester nomads 4ths beat MUC 2-1 in a historic moment for the team getting to its first final in only 2 years, outstanding performances from Calum Caulfield, Sam Gregory and George Cornes along with many others,

We took the lead through a Sam Gregory 30 yard screamer off the post with him seeming more surprised it had gone in than everyone else there. We battled hard to maintain the lead but a minute to go in the half MUC scored through a penalty from a silly mistake to make it 1-1 at the break.

The lads rallied again at halftime and came out ready for war, after a shakey opening 10 minutes to the half we made some changes including Calum Caulfield to right back that nullified MUC’s main threat down the wing and from then we took control of the game.

With half an hour to go Bobby Bain whipped in the perfect corner right onto George Cornes’ head at the near post giving us a well deserved 2-1 lead.

For the rest of the game the lads fought for every 50/50 and managed to keep MUC at bay until the eventual final whistle, couldn’t be prouder or happier for the lads, onto the final on the 9th May at the Deva Stadium!

Sixths A Gritty Battle at the Garrison: Triumphs and Trials of the 6ths

The 6ths were back at the garrison, home from home against a young looking Whitegates vets side.

We last played at the garrison back in September which was certainly a lot warmer and drier than today. Everyone was chuffed at the final whistle 🥶.

We set our stall out with a 352 formation and stuck with it throughout the game regardless of the score, mainly because we had very few defenders. Simon and Hibb ensured that continued during the game staying high and wide 🤔. Admittedly we were caught 3 times during the first half resulting in 3 goals. The first was a header from a corner, the second was an authoritative shout from Marc that everything was under control 🙃 and I can't remember the third because we were still laughing at the second 😜.

Strangely we played excellent football in the first half, keeping the ball moving, passing with ease. We even thought we were Arsenal for a 10 minute spell with 300 corners one after the other. Simon and Hibb were having a great time 😀.

We welcomed a new lad (James aka Towey) to the team today, started on the bench and entered play around the 20 minute stage. Just before the break his analysis from the sidelines paid dividends, scoring from finding that little bit of space in the 6 yard box. A dream debut 👏 and more importantly put an excellent shift in. Alastair back from troubled Dubai has claimed the assist beating at least 2 players on the wing before playing an excellent ball into the danger zone.

The comeback was on, 3-1 down. What a midfield trio in Marek Joe and Liam we have. All 3 were superb. I think this was Liam's best game to date and certainly in the running for motm.

We were raring to go in the second half and conceded twice in the first 5 minutes 🤦‍♂️. Again though we continued to play decent football, aided and abetted by having James Cummins up front who had a great game. Losing Kenny was a blow and we feared the worst when Marc was shot but Alastair stepped in to keep a clean sheet, another contender for motm.

The 2 either side of Kenny, Andy and Adam were brilliant. My motm goes to Adam who was brave on the ball, passed all day, encouraged those around him and played brilliantly for 90 minutes. It has been great having him this season, never gives up 👏

We go again soon hopefully next week, not many games left now, season ends 9th May...

Masters Triumph in Final Masters Cup Game with Baino's Hat Trick

Masters travelled to Northwich to play Ashton in the final game of the Masters cup.

With a depleted squad we were down to 13 players with Mark W only available for the first half due to dad duties. We welcomed Al Schumacker back into the team after his hiatus in Germany and it was great to have him back bossing the middle of the park.

We set up in a 4-5-1 with manager Baino leading the line in his first start in about 18 months. We got off to a good start and were bossing the game and creating all the chances, you know what’s coming now… Ashton took the lead after a defensive mistake and suddenly we were 1-0 down.

With 10 minutes left of the first half a long throw into the box was flicked on by Gunner and Baino volleyed home. With only a minute left of the half Pete Tuma whipped in a corner and Schuey was there at the front post to volley home. 1-2 half time.

A hattrick from club chairman Chris Bain

The second half was one way traffic, Baino poked home from a Gunner cut back to make it 3-1. A fine move down the left with Dave and Ash set Baino in on goal, his left footed effort was palmed out by the keeper and Gunner slotted home for the 4th.

Nomads were playing some great football and a great move saw Baino send Gunner through 1 on 1 and he slotted home to make it 5.

With 15 minutes left Baino completed his hat trick, sent through on goal by a great ball from Pete Tuma he nicked it past the keeper to make it 6.

A great performance in a game we totally dominated.

MOTM - Alan Schumacker - dominated the midfield, first to every ball. Great to have him back.
