08/11/25 Weekly Round Up

Nomads’ senior sides were all in action over the weekend, delivering a mix of results across the divisions, including two dramatic home draws, plenty of goals for the Veterans, and battling away performances from the Fourths and Masters:

In West Cheshire League Division 1, the Firsts fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Mossley Hill, conceding twice from set pieces in a tight game that could have gone either way.

The Ambers were unfortunate to come away empty handed after a competitive contest in Liverpool, which sees them remain in 5th place in the table.

At Boughton Hall, the Reserves played out a dramatic 1-1 draw with Sefton Park Rangers in West Cheshire League Division 2.

Captain Sandro Malletta put Nomads ahead from the penalty spot midway through the first half, but the visitors levelled soon after.

After hitting the post twice in the second half, the game ended in extraordinary fashion as the Ambers faced two penalties deep into stoppage time - with Jack Minshull saving the first in the 94th minute before the second was sent wide in the 97th. Minshull’s heroics throughout the game, alongside a strong defensive display that included Man of the Match George Green, helped secure a hard earned point.

Also at Boughton Hall, the Thirds extended their unbeaten run to four games with an equally thrilling 3-3 draw with Upton JFC Reserves. After an even first 45 minutes, Nomads found themselves 3-1 down early in the second period before mounting a spirited comeback.

Goals from Trey Lattie and George Moore brought them back into contention, and in a dramatic finale, as Nomads threw everything at it, goalkeeper Tom Williamson ventured forward and scored with virtually the last kick of the game to rescue a point and move the Thirds onto 10 points in the CWFL Premier Division.

In the CWFL Championship, the Fourths were beaten 5-1 despite a battling display away at Elton JFC after travelling with a bare eleven. Richard Birtwistle opened the scoring on 20 minutes to give Nomads an early lead, but fatigue began to show before half time and the Ambers were eventually overrun.

Despite the scoreline, there were strong efforts across the pitch, with Marek Szpila and Michael Kennedy stand outs for their commitment over the 90 minutes.

The Vets produced an excellent performance at Boughton Hall to record a 7-1 victory over Crewe Corinthians, gaining revenge for defeat in last season’s cup final.

Nomads started brightly, moving the ball well and taking full advantage of set pieces, with first half goals from Gabriel and Saliba (Gaz and Lloydy) helping them into a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw the dominance continue to ensure a comprehensive win and a fitting response to last year’s disappointment. Mike Jeffs was named Man of the Match after an outstanding display in midfield, while young referee George also earned praise for an assured performance with the whistle.

The Masters fell to defeat as they travelled to Whitegate, fielding a bare eleven after a string of late injuries. Lining up in their familiar 4-5-1, Nomads contained the hosts well and created several good chances in the first half, going into the break at 0-0.

The second half proved a tougher challenge as Whitegate were able to introduce fresh legs, eventually running out 3-0 winners.

Despite the scoreline it was a spirited display, with Steve Smith rolling back the years with a Man of the Match performance in midfield.

With moments of brilliance from our goalkeepers and battling performances across the teams, the club heads into next weekend ready to build on the positives from an eventful weekend in amber and black.
