It was another busy weekend for Nomads’ senior sides, with a fantastic Friday night victory for the First Team, while the Masters stole the show on Saturday with goals galore in the Legends Cup:
The Firsts kicked off the weekend with a superb display under the Friday night lights, securing a 3-0 win at previously unbeaten Newton. Despite significant pre-match disruption caused by travel issues and late arrivals, Nomads were disciplined and organised throughout, with makeshift centre back pairing Rich Tomassen and James Tucker leading a resolute defensive performance that limited the hosts to very little.

First-half goals from Charlie Mann and Cam Clark gave Nomads a deserved lead at the interval, before Tom Rowlands added a third after the break with a well placed cross into the far corner.
A clean sheet at one of the league’s toughest venues underlined the quality of the performance, with 16-year-old Stan Taberner again making an appearance from the bench as he continues his progression from the Reserves. While every player impressed, Man of the Match was awarded to Charlie Mann, whose return to the side proved pivotal. The Firsts now look ahead to their Pyke Cup tie against Mallaby next weekend.
On to Saturday’s fixtures, and the Reserves exited the Haworth & Gallagher Bowl with a 4-1 home defeat to Great Sutton at Boughton Hall.
Nomads nearly made the perfect start when an early corner caused havoc but was cleared off the line, before the visitors struck first and then added goals either side of half time to take complete control of the tie.
A tidy volley from substitute Victor Arogundade briefly offered a route back at 3-1, but as the Reserves pushed forward they were hit on the counter to end the contest. A tough afternoon going out of the Cup, but the squad now looks ahead to Friday night football next week at Vauxhalls.
There was no CWFL fixture for our Thirds this weekend, but at the Garrison, the Fourths drew 3-3 against M.U.C. United in the Championship.

Richard Birtwistle grabbed a brace, and a goal from Kieran O’Hare gave Nomads hope of all three points, but after several opportunities to secure all three points, the Ambers couldn’t find a winner in the closing stages. Overall, a positive performance against a side in the top four.
Also at the Garrison, the Vets shared a 2–2 draw with Neston Nomads. An excellent first-time finish on debut from Jason put Nomads ahead, but the visitors levelled before half-time.
Danny Andrews won and converted a penalty to restore the lead, but injuries forced a reshuffle that allowed Neston back into the game. In the end, a 2–2 draw was a fair reflection of a competitive contest.

Back at Boughton Hall, the Sixths produced a spirited display in the Eric Dean Trophy despite a 4-2 home defeat to Waverton Vets. After conceding twice inside the opening five minutes, Nomads responded superbly and were the better side by the break thanks to goals from Simon Taylor and a brilliant left-footed strike from Wayne Dodd.
Waverton regained control in the second half with two unanswered goals, but there were plenty of positives - notably the midfield trio of Pete Tuma, Steve Wilson, and Joe Davies, who were excellent throughout the afternoon.
The Masters earned a 7-4 victory over St Mary’s in an entertaining second Legends Cup.

Nomads flew into a 3-0 lead with Sean Doolan central to all three: two assists for Richie Hale and Stuart Rain, before scoring one himself via a Hayden Evans through ball. A brief wobble saw St Mary’s pull it back to 3-2, but Nomads reasserted control after the break and ran out deserved winners.

On a great afternoon, Doolan took Man of the Match with one goal and five assists, Rainy marked his return with a hat-trick - including a superb first-time lob - and Hayden added two quality assists. Skipper Abbo produced a captain’s performance to lead a brilliant all-round display in front of a sizeable crowd at Boughton Hall.
Another weekend featuring some fine performances across our sides leaves the Amber Army looking forward to another round of fixtures next weekend.
