Important Update: Ban on Micro Shin Pads for 16s & Under

Important Update: Ban on Micro Shin Pads for all players and teams under the age of 16

The Chester Nomads Junior Committee has made a crucial decision to prioritise the safety of our players by banning the use of "Micro" or "Mini" shin pads for all U16 Chester Nomads teams. This decision aligns with our commitment to ensuring the highest level of protection for every player on the field.

Why Are Shin Pads Essential in Football?

Shin pads are not just a requirement; they are a vital piece of protective equipment designed to prevent injuries. The Laws of the Game clearly state that shin pads are compulsory, and for good reason. They shield the shin—a vulnerable area prone to impacts during a game—from potentially serious injuries.

Why Are Micro Shin Pads Being Banned?

Cheshire FA recommendations- The size of the shin pad matters significantly in providing adequate protection. Smaller shin pads, like "Micro" or "Mini" types, cover less of the shin, leaving more of this sensitive area exposed and increasing the risk of injury. To better safeguard our players, we are implementing this ban and advising that larger shin pads, which offer more coverage, be used instead.

Choosing the Right Shin Pads

When selecting shin pads, safety should always be the top priority. Here are some key considerations:

• Coverage: Ensure that the shin pads cover a substantial portion of the shin to maximize protection.

• Materials: Look for shin pads that carry a CE mark, indicating they meet minimum safety standards. Pads without this mark may not provide adequate protection and should be avoided.

We urge all players and parents to carefully consider these factors when choosing shin pads. The right equipment is essential in reducing the risk of injury and ensuring a safer game for everyone.

Let's keep our game safe and enjoyable for all!
