Weekly Round-Up 28/02/2026

First Team

WCL 1st Div Table
WCL 1st Div Table

Firsts 4-2 win away against a very good Mallaby team. 3-0 up at half time, flattered us to an extent although missing a lot of chances.

3-2 within 15 minutes of the second half forced me to bring on Chris Rowntree and Luca Jones which in my opinion won us the game, both ran the game and great options to have coming back from injury before Ben Coward made it 2-4

Special mentions to Cam Clark and Ben Coward with 2 goals each but MOM Rich Tomo again, unbelievable in midfield then went to CB after 60 mins and made sure we weren’t conceding again.

Unbeaten since November!

Reserves

2s were beaten 4-2 by WC2 league leaders Neston Nomads. Went 1-0 down within five minutes but equalised when a quality delivery from George Stockton was attacked by Reece Ludlow who bundled home at the second attempt.

Two goals for the visitors looked to take the game away from us before the break, but after half time, a calm Macaulay Salter penalty gave us hope and belief. We huffed and puffed in the second period but it was Neston who got the important 6th goal in the game to take the points.

Big effort from the group with 6 debuts to new signings from the UDA scheme at the University of Chester. MotM Jack Minshull - argument that he’s the best keeper in the league and one particular second half save today adds further evidence to that.

Note to add on today, Stan Taberner at 16 years and 286 days was today’s captain for the 2s - even captaining his dad Rob for the game! Can’t have been many more younger captains in League football for Nomads and a privilege for us give such an honour to an excellent young man and footballer 🧡

6ths

The 6ths played Rockville vets at Boughton Hall today and played their part in a 2-2 thriller.

6ths No: 1 Marc Howens MoM
6ths No: 1 Marc Howens MoM

The sun was out in full force as were the returning ultras which was great to see.

The pitch, it must be noted was in great condition which encouraged both teams to play some excellent football.

As the masters had a cup game we were fortunate to select 2 of their academy players. Both @Phil Walker and Adam showed their class and composure throughout the game, linking play well, keeping the ball moving. Easier said than done but they did it magnificently.

To be fair, Rockville deserved their lead mid way through the first half but it was no surprise to see us equalise with an assist for Andy Griffiths for Hibb to finish superbly before the break.

Mark rallied the troops at halftime, organised everyone and led by example as ever on the pitch despite taking a couple of heavy blows. A fantastic captain 🧡.

Adam Palmer's best game to date , composed and committed. Kenny was Kenny.

A quick counter midway through the second half seen Rockville take a 2-1 lead. Andy Griffiths wasn't having it, another assist this time for Marek to equalise with an excellent finish to make it 2-2. Both sides had chances to win it late on which would have been harsh on the other.

This was a proper game of football against a great side. Both teams played some great football throughout but my motm this week goes to Marc Howens in nets. What an excellent display of commanding his area, communicating and organising his defence.

He also did his job as Roy would say and made at least 4 absolutely fantastic saves and certainly played his part in a great game. Well played lads, we go again next week....

Masters

Masters welcomed Liverpool Ramblers to Boughton Hall for a Legends cup semi final.

With such an important fixture it was with great excitement that manager Baino looked and saw only 11 players available for the game!

Despite the lack of numbers we went into the game full of confidence as Rainy had decided to play which always makes a difference.

Within 10 minutes of kick off we were 1-0 down and starting to get a bit nervous. Then we won a corner with 15 minutes gone, Dools took the corner and picked out Rainy on the edge of the box, with a first time volley he almost took the net out, two keepers couldn’t have stopped it. Scores level and all to play for.

Just after half time with the scores level a Ramblers break saw them take a 2-1 lead. Nomads then set up camp in the Ramblers box, posts were hit, keeper made some world class saves and it looked like defeat was on the cards. Then a corner in the final minute and Abbo came up from the back, managing to get the slightest of touches he knocked it down and who else but Rainy was there to prod it home. To penalties we go….

A brace of penalty saves from Neil Barnes for the Masters
A brace of penalty saves from Neil Barnes for the Masters

Ramblers first penalty expertly saved by Neil Barnes

Dools slots home - 1-0 Nomads

Ramblers score 1-1

Up steps Captain Mike Sixsmith, saved by the keeper

Ramblers score 2-1

Musti is next up, slots home 2-2

Ramblers next effort goes wide

Rainy steps up, drills it home 3-2

Ramblers 5th pen, they need to score to stay in the shootout, with manager Baino on the halfway like waiting to take the 5th full of absolutely no confidence in himself up steps the Ramblers 5th taker. Ball is absolutely drilled towards the roof of the net, who else would get fingertips to it but Neil Barnes. An amazing save and Nomad’s progress to the final.

MOTM - a close call between Rainy and Barnsey but the keeper who saves two penalties has to shade it.
