Controversial Decisions Overshadows Firsts' Efforts

Nomads 1sts 0

South Liverpool 1

Firsts played well and deserved all 3 points. Fair play to South who come and done a job.

To say we’ve been hard done too is an understatement, I’m sure South would agree it’s the worst display of refereeing I’ve ever seen. Not one bad tackle and ended 9 v 10.

Mom is Tom Pritchard, very good player who we are lucky to have come and join us

Another storming victory for the Thunder Thirds, riding the wave.

Thirds 7

Upton JFC Res 4

Upton again this week, always going to be a tricky game following last week’s emphatic victory - expecting Upton to be up for it. Things looked set for an upset with Upton going 1 up through a penalty in the first minute, quickly into 2-0 Upton. Nomads fought on and went 3-2 up after some unbelievable football from Charlie and Will Jones; JL7 on it as always. 3-3 at half time was a fair result with some good football being played by both teams; but plenty more to give from Nomads.

Some positional changes at halftime gave us some stability at the back and in the middle, but Upton managed to grab a very well finished goal. The Thirds of old would have crumbled and let the game slip away but not under new management.

Great fight and great football saw us run away with it and completely dominate the last 25minutes of the game and walk home to a comfortable 7-4 win.

Top of the league on goal difference with it all in our hands.

Goals from:

JL7 - 3

Shean Shrigley - 1

Tim Ashbrook - 1

Sam Christmas - 1

Josh Camy - 1

MOTM - Will Jones

Vets Roar to Victory in Dramatic Comeback Against Red Lions

Vets 3

Ellesmere Port Red Lions 2

The Vets manager returned to orchestrate a return to winning ways! A scrappy 1st half saw Ellesmere Port Red Lions take the lead with a penalty only for Geo to earn Nomads a penalty at the other end which Ed despatched easily. Red Lions took the lead but then came a master class in wing play. James ghosted in at the back post to equalise and then volleyed in the winner with his left foot to earn all three points. The opposition will feel aggrieved that the final kick of the game hit the post which would have earned them the draw.

Tough to choose a MOM as everyone battled hard to take us up to 3rd.

Tough Defeat for Sixths Despite Strong Individual Performances

Sixths 2

Dee Rangers 9

The 6ths welcomed Dee Rangers to Boughton Hall for an Eric Dean trophy fixture and having lost 7-2 last season knew it was going to be a tough afternoon.

We had a strong squad yet had one of those games were everything went wrong collectively and we must take our medicine, dust ourselves down and move on to next week swiftly.

Although we conceded 10, some of them very daft, we did have moments of decent play. We played a strong league team and came up second best. That said we appreciated the assistance from the 3 lads from the masters who battled to the end. We wish Phil Walker well as he went off with what could be a long term injury so we hope he recovers soon and gets back out playing football as soon as.

Some positives to note in no particular order. Mark played magnificently today and certainly did his bit in keeping the score lower than it could have been. Manny scored his second of the season and is joint top goal scorer. Gary was superb and got a full 90 mins which he won't thank me for tomorrow. Wayne got a few shots off and some were on target.

As ever there can only be one man of the match and it was great to see Callum Davies back in the side and having such a brilliant game from start to finish. Well done Callum

We go again next week...

Masters Triumph Over Alsop with Dominant 4-1 Victory in Legends Cup

Masters 4

Alsop 1

Masters travelled to Liverpool for a Legends cup match against Alsop on Saturday. With this being an over 50s competition we were without 3 of our best performers in recent weeks, fortunately as they are all club men we swapped Pete, Adam and Phill with the 6th team and got Andy Baker and Keith Fawcett in return. This gave us a squad of 12, no injuries allowed!

In an unusual turn of events we started the strongest, with 5 minutes on the clock Pete Fitz took the ball on the turn, spun his defender and smashed it into the top corner. An absolute worldie of a goal to get us started.

We were controlling the play with a great shape and work rate and just before half time Fitzy notched again, this time it was great work down the left by Edgie who’s ball into the box caused a defensive mix up and Fitzy rounded the keeper to make it 2.

Into the second half and we were still very much in control, with an hour on the clock a great cross from Lee Benson was met by Gossie to make it 3-0. Alsop pulled one back with a scuffed effort in the box and they suddenly had the wind in their sails.

Fear not because with 10 minutes to play Abbo intercepted an attack, strode out from the back and sent Gossie through on goal to slot past the keeper and make it 4-1.

So despite a threadbare squad and a couple of injuries we just decided to roll with it. 2 goals each for Fitzy & Gossie, some outstanding performances across the park but Keith Fawcett gets MOTM today. Completely assured in the middle of the park, never wasted a pass and got stuck in all over the place.

On to next week we go…
