Thriller at Boughton Hall as Devs Edge 6ths in a 4-3 Victory
Development Team 4
6ths 3
The 6ths and Development team played out a thrilling game at Boughton Hall this afternoon. It was a great fixture played in the right competitive spirit by both Chester Nomads teams.
Firstly and most importantly what a great bunch of lads that @Will Stevenson has at his disposal. They played some great football today and were good value for their 4-3 win. Despite the press catching them a few times they continued to play out from the back as did the 6ths. A credit to both footballing teams 👏. They played into midfield, short passes out wide and their number 9 had a great game creating numerous chances.
The 6ths, having suffered a few hard defeats lately set up with a 352 formation and got back to basics with 2 touch and pass football and it served them well throughout the game even with tiring legs late on.
Jeff brought his lad Nathan (he can play). Some great trickery down the left flank by Jeff and a tempting cross along the six yard box could and maybe should have led to a dad and lad goal 🧡
The Devs struck first, a nice composed finish to be fair and perhaps we feared the worst but it was an early goal and we got going again. The 6ths were composed and comfortable in their shape. The two strikers stayed up top and pressed all game. The equaliser came midway through the half with a brilliant corner delivery by Gilly and who else but the captain Mark to stick it in the back of the net. What a game he had by the way. Within minutes that press produced results with Nathan closing down and finding the empty net. 2-1 up against the kids 🤔.
They fought back in the right manner, playing proper football and produced another 2 well taken finishes. 3-2 down now, centre kick, Nathan bang, lobs the keeper. A ridiculous strike that had everyone applauding 👏 then it was 3-3. Just before halftime they got what turned out to be the winning goal as they were just a little younger and quicker when the ball came into the box.
Halftime 4-3 to the Devs. Second half we played up the hill. Still we played the right way, easy passes, drive into space, release at the right time, kept the ball moving, kept the shape. Fullbacks Gilly and James were brilliant, never stopped all game. Kenny was Kenny as you'd expect. Hibb had a great game, pressed all game and had 2 great chances to level. A brilliant effort clipping the post was most unfortunate. But he battled well all game.
Yes we had our chances second half, Nathan also hit the post. But I must say a few words on keeper Marc. What a Fabulous guy to have in the team. Some good saves in the first half but 3 wonderful saves at least in the second half including a defensive header from me that looked destined for the top corner and somehow he got fingertips on it to steer it wide. Absolutely brilliant to have him in the team.
What a player Keith is. He was having a brilliant game til he went off injured unfortunately mid way through the first half. He controlled midfield very well alongside Joe Davies as you'd expect and both were serious contenders for motm. Also a shout out to Tom who was great in midfield. But another number 8 picks up that award today. His composure on the ball was superb. I'm sure he won every duel, kept the ball moving, does the hard yards for the team and played some great football today so Liam Baker, take a bow a great performance, a great season and a well deserved motm 👍
This loss feels like a win, a win for the nomads and a big thanks to Andy Ward who managed the game brilliantly 🧡 as ever we go again next week..
Hartford Vets Edge Out Vets in Dramatic Late Win
Vets 2
Hartford 3
It is never a great start to a game when Jeffsy realises he has left the kit and footballs at home! Luckily Hartford vets had a lovely grey away kit that they very kindly allowed us to use.
After a tricky start where Hartford looked on top the Vets opened the scoring when Ed Moss rolled a precision finish into the corner. Hartford equalised with a nice finish before Jack Delgado restored the lead with a well worked goal.
Hartford were quicker to react to a loose ball in the area to make it 2-2 with a tense last 20 to follow.
The vets had chances to win it but a great save and a last ditch tackle prevented this.
In the end we thanked them for lending us their kit by handing them a very scrappy winner with 2 minutes to go!
Nomads Masters Fall Short Against Eastham in Cup Match

Masters 3
Eastham 4
Nomads Masters hosted Eastham Masters on Saturday in a must win game in our Master’s Cup group stage
We were very poor on the day, to somehow be beaten 4-3 on our own patch makes it look better than it was.
Second to every ball, no talking, taking too long on the ball.
For the record books, scorers were Jock and a double from Fitzy.
MOTM was Andy ‘Tino’ Smith who volunteered to referee the game as he’s currently injured.
Youth Team - No Game
