Match abandoned with 10 to go, following a horrible injury to the Newton centre forward. Football comes second when stuff like this happens.

We wish the Newton player, who’s been a top player at this level for many years, a speedy recovery.

Thirds Maintain Unbeaten Streak with Draw

The unbeaten run continues for the 3rds, but unfortunately with a draw - not all 3 points.

Started well and applied the pressure, 2-0 up after an early penalty converted by Will Jones and a follow up from James Lloyd. But the hosts soon took advantage of 5 minutes of mayhem and went into half time 3-2 up.

Nomads dominated the 2nd half, but couldn’t convert any of the many chances we had. A combination of poor finishing and decent keeper work looked like it would lead to a loss, but a scrappy goal in the last 3 minutes got us back level.

2 goals for James Lloyd and 1 for Will Jones had the game finish 3-3.

Still in 2nd place with a visit from top of the league New Brighton next week - big game.

Nomads' Strong Start Undone by Late Setbacks

First half: Nomads started very strong. Bullish in midfield every second ball won. Girish kumar put through a lofted through ball down the right channel following a clearance from the back through to Nick Crouch who took in stride to slot it well in the bottom left hand corner.

The nomads managed the game well into the second half, the the back line making crucial tackles and keeping poutin quiet. Big displays in the midfield from Leon Willman battling for every ball and control from Bobby Bain and girish.

The second half : on the upward slope against the nomads. Managed the game well until in the 80th minute a mix up at the back led to a very soft penalty admitted by the ref at full time. Head dropped and a silly foul led to a well struck free kick. Some great saves from the GK kept the lads in the game. But tired legs and chasing a result led to a last minute 1v1 which was put away.

Sore defeat for the lads but a lot of positives to take. No gaffer or senior players in the side the younger lads stepped up to the plate to play an unbeaten side in the league. UTFN

Youth Team find it's a funny old game

Well, football is a funny old game” someone once said - was it Greavsie?

You can play well enough to win, create a hat full of chances but come away on the end of a 4-1 defeat.

That’s exactly what happened to the youth team this weekend playing away against a solid South Liverpool side.

Having gifted an early goal the lads were playing catch up for most of the game. Although they dominated possession and created multiple chances it wasn’t to be. So they’ll re-group and go again next week on the back of a good performance but no points this time.

The 6ths Triumph in Season Opener with a 2-1 Victory Over Liobians

The 6ths opened their season with a well deserved 2-1 victory against Liobians at Boughton Hall today.

A strong squad of 15.5 were delighted to be back playing again on a magnificent surface and if truth be told had the better of the opening 20 minutes.

We had a wealth of experience at the back today with Mr Brookman and Mr Baker as centre halves. It would be unfair to count the years of experience but it's close to 130 💪

I don't think many had the opening goal scorer down as Mr Baker but take a bow, what a strike from outside the box, left foot, from a corner delivered by Simon Taylor. An incredible hit that had the ultras somewhat confused but beaming with pride😁

Manny, Adam, Andy Griffith and Gilly all played their part in ensuring we kept the liobians at bay. Manny's foul throw that wasn't given stopped everyone in their tracks but as they say, play to the whistle. Thankfully Mr Ward (thanks for volunteering) left his cards at home as Gilly made a blatant handball look somewhat accidental and stopped them in the closing stages of having a one on one. That said Matty Booth who commanded his area with ease throughout the afternoon would have been difficult to beat in any event.

Special mention to our debutant Jeff Ball who was well at ease in the middle of the park. There were some great efforts at goal by Stewart, Marek who battled admirably as you'd expect, Joe Davies had a great effort on goal as did Towey and wayne on a number of occasions. Football matches are won with moments and Towey's assist to Simon for the second was exceptional. The ball crossed inch perfect from the right and Simon with the volley to the bottom corner. In fact Towey, Wayne ran their socks off all game. Simon as he does loved putting the through ball in for them.

Their consolation goal may have been scrutinised further with var and line drawing but thankfully it was the last action of the game. 2-1 winners on opening day and there is no doubt my man of the match today is Kenny, a wonderful footballer, gives 💯never stops, always looking to pass and makes himself available to help his teammates 👍.

We are up and running, we go again next week.... 🧡

Masters Secure Dominant 3-0 Victory in Friendship Masters Cup Opener

Masters took the short drive to County Offices to play Upton Masters in the Friendship Masters Cup on Saturday.

With only 12 1/2 players available (Edgeys social life!) we were concerned going into the game.

That concern was was washed away inside 20 minutes when Pete Tuma lofted a free kick to the back post, Phill Walker took it down, stepped inside the defender and rifled it past the keeper. 10 minutes later another free kick and this time Pete went for goal, in off the bar and post, one for the scrapbook.

Into the second half and we started to fade in-out of the game. Then Mike Sixsmith set Adam Curry away in the box, he curled one round the keeper into the top corner.

In truth it should have been more but some poor finishing and a lack of fresh legs meant it finished 3-0.

Another clean sheet and 3 points on the board in the league stage of the cup is all that matters, MOM Adam Curry, very closely run by Pete Tuma and Neil Davies.
