Malaby 1

Chester Nomads 1sts 3

Nomads came away with three well-earned points after another tough contest away at Malaby, with two goals from Brandon Dickinson and one from Charlie Mann.

The game started more openly than we would have liked, with both sides creating chances in an end-to-end opening. Once we settled and got to grips with Malaby’s threat, we began to take control. Goals from Dickinson and Mann gave us a deserved 2–0 lead, and we saw out the remainder of the first half comfortably.

We started the second half a little slowly. In trying to control the game, we became too passive, allowing Malaby into our box, and the hosts pulled a goal back shortly after the restart.

The response was positive. Cam Clark brought fresh energy off the bench and played an important part in the build-up to our third. The ball was worked wide to Ben Coward, whose superb delivery was met by Dickinson for his second of the afternoon.

There were further chances at both ends. Leachy produced some outstanding saves at important moments, while we passed up several opportunities to put the game beyond doubt. Malaby always make you work for a result, but with a more clinical touch, our winning margin could have been greater.

Man for man, there were outstanding contributions throughout the side. The two centre-halves, Wally and Chris, were rocks at the back, Mikey was solid at left-back, and Tucker put in a great shift in midfield. Charlie Mann provided his usual creativity alongside his goal, while Dan and Mason both delivered solid performances on their first starts.

Brandon continued to keep himself among the goals, and although Ben Coward didn’t get on the scoresheet, his two assists showed just how much he contributed.

There was also an excellent 20-minute appearance from youth player Seb. Coming on down the right wing, he made a real impression and could easily have capped his performance with a goal.

A strong team performance, a hard-earned away win and plenty of positives to take into the next game.

3rds XI 5

New Brighton Riptide 3

🔥 TOP-OF-THE-TABLE THRILLER!

We welcomed New Brighton Riptide into this one knowing they had won all six of their opening league games, while we were also unbeaten after our first six. It had all the makings of a huge game — and the lads were certainly up for it!

We started brilliantly, putting constant pressure on the New Brighton back line, and got our reward when Will Jones produced an excellent finish to put us 1–0 ahead.

A late first-half cross was turned home by the visitors, meaning we went into the break level at 1–1.

We stepped up the tempo after half-time and Will Jones struck twice with two brilliant finishes to complete his hat-trick and put us 3–1 up.

New Brighton weren’t done, though, and two scrappy goals brought them level at 3–3 with just 15 minutes remaining.

But the Thunder Thirds responded. ⚡

James Lloyd stepped up when it mattered to fire us back in front, before Will Jones finished the job with his FOURTH goal of the afternoon to seal a massive 5–3 victory! 👏⚽⚽⚽⚽

A huge result means the #ThunderThirds are now the only unbeaten team in the CWFL, closing the gap at the top of the table to just three points. 🧡⚡

Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of David Ashcroft, who sadly passed away the previous week.

Everyone at Chester Nomads sends their deepest condolences to David’s family and friends at this difficult time

Vets 3

Higher Bebington Kelma 5

Nomads Vets travelled to Higher Bebington Kelma this weekend for a game that was thrown into the schedule at the last minute.

With the lads not expecting a league fixture, half the squad had already made plans and booked little trips away, leaving Nomads with a very depleted squad.

The opening 15 minutes were tight, but a well-taken header from Dan Delgado put the boys 1–0 up. Unfortunately, that may have been the worst thing we could have done, as it seemed to give Kelma the kick up the backside they needed.

Kelma went on to dominate the remainder of the first half, scoring five goals in a devastating 15-minute spell to take a commanding lead into the break.

The second half was a much tighter affair, with Nomads showing plenty of character and scoring two fantastic goals. Jamie McAlwaine produced an absolute worldie, before a great team move was finished off nicely by returning player Jake McCallum.

All in all, a tough afternoon against what might be the best Vets team we’ve ever faced

Sixths 5

Essemay 2

The 6ths welcomed Essemay vets to Boughton Hall for a friendly and were in dreamland for the first 35-40 minutes.

The football being played was wonderful, lots of triangle passing, through balls lifted by Simon to the run of James and or Hibb. The later taken out which would have been a penalty had James not put it away for our second. I think Hibb wanted the penalty instead though 🤔.

The first is one the ultras will be talking about all week. Simon edge of the box to James who unselfishly squares it to his right for Manny to dink, yes dink, past the outstretched keeper and into the net. A wonderful goal and set him up for contention as man of the match, then he went in goal so that talk faded quickly. But a great goal non the less.

It was too easy, I thought about taking the youngster James off as I didn't want to run riot. Anyhow I didn't and they scored 5 goals, well 4 as Andy Griffith scored a cracking own goal, right foot volley bottom corner no less 😂.

It's a funny old game, can't put my finger on how it ended 5-2 but there we are. Big thanks to those who volunteered to go in goal, much appreciated. Some good performances today including Liam Baker in midfield, very composed and involved in everything good. That said there can only be one man of the match and this week I think Rob Ballance was magnificent on and off the ball. Certainly won all his duels, fully committed, great passer of the ball and has a goal in him too and although he had a few shots it just wasn't to be today, but well done Rob and his fellow teammates. I'm sure we'll go again next week....🧡

Bromborough Masters 1

Chester Nomads Masters 2

Masters travelled to Bromborough to play Port Sunlight in the Masters Cup league round.

Phill Walker hIts the net again!
Phill Walker hIts the net again!

With only 9 players available on Thursday it was incredible to have a squad of 15 come 2pm on Saturday. Unfortunately the first minute was incredible for all the wrong reasons, Port Sunlight threw a cross into the box, we stood off them and let the forward bring it on down and slam it in. 1-0 down and not even a minute on the clock.

As starts go it couldn’t get any worse but we did slowly start to grow into the game. Eventually on the half hour a Pete Tuma shot was parried by the keeper and Phill Walker made it 2 in 2 from right back.

After some choice words at half time we went back into the second half with some optimism. We were then denied a stone wall penalty from a blatant handball, the subsequent appeals saw Jay Edwards sent off from his substitute berth.

Port Sunlight then grabbed the lead following another mess at the back for Nomads. 2-1 down with 30 to play and we threw everything we had at them. The bar was hit twice and the post was struck. We gave absolutely everything but unfortunately defeat is our mistress this weekend.

MOTM - Phill Walker, grabbed a goal and put in a great shift on the right side.
