Weekly Round Up 24/01/26

It was a weekend of high drama, swirling winds, and mixed fortunes for the club. From last-minute cancellations to "half-way line" screamers, here is your full round-up of the latest action.

First Team & Reserves

The First Team had an unexpected weekend off after their fixture was called off at the eleventh hour. Opponents Litherland were unable to field a side following the departure of their manager.

Meanwhile, the Reserves played out a 3-3 thriller away at Aintree Villa Reserves. Battling a fierce wind, the lads went into the break 1-0 down but exploded into life in the second half. Cam Clark equalized before Charlie Mann—who was instrumental all day—put the side 2-1 up with a long-range free kick. Aintree fought back to lead 3-2 with five minutes left, but Luke Dulson salvaged a point with a bullet header. A great watch for the neutrals!

6th Team: Victory at Boughton Hall

The 6ths secured a hard-fought 3-2 win against a gracious Liobans side. After falling behind, James Cummins levelled things up following a great team move. The second half saw James bag another, reacting quickest to slot home the rebound after Kenny’s penalty was saved. Despite Liobans equalizing via a soft penalty, Callum stepped up to smash a left-footed strike into the top corner to seal the win and take the MOTM honours.

4th Team & Vets

The 4ths fell 4-2 to HB Kelma, but the score-line doesn't tell the whole story. Down 3-0 at half-time, the team showed incredible spirit to pull it back to 3-2 thanks to goals from Reece Ludlow and Joe Ritsen. A controversial penalty decision ultimately killed the comeback, but the performances of Joe and George Cornes in midfield provided plenty of positives.

The Vets travelled to Birkenhead for a Friday night cup clash. In a game of fine margins, Jack Delgado scored the goal of the weekend—a stunning lob from the halfway line! Unfortunately, a late "handball" free kick (which the referee later admitted he didn't see) led to a goalmouth scramble and a heart-breaking 2-1 defeat.

Masters

MOTM: Andy ‘Tino’ Smith for a tireless performance leading the line.

The Masters hosted St Anne’s at Boughton Hall in blustery conditions. Sean Doolan finished off a slick move to cancel out St Anne's opener, but a defensive mix-up in the second half gifted the visitors a 2-1 win.
