As we entered December, rain stopped play for most of our league teams over the weekend, but there were still games across the senior section - and it was the Seconds who delivered the early festive cheer with a brilliant win on the road:
Firsts
The Firsts’ West Cheshire 1 game with Ellesmere Port Town was called off on Saturday morning due to a waterlogged pitch at Boughton Hall.
Reserves
That put the spotlight on the Seconds, who produced a superb 2-1 victory away at Sutton Rangers in West Cheshire League 2.

Skipper Sandro Malletta opened the scoring with a well hit 20-yard strike midway through the first half, after a tactically astute start from the Ambers. Ahead at the break, Nomads had some defending to do early in the second half, and Sutton drew level after a rare lapse at the back.

Nomads responded strongly to the setback, and in the final ten minutes regained the lead. A long throw from Luke Floyd caused chaos in the home penalty area, bouncing through to Reece Ludlow at the back post to nod Nomads ahead once again.
A tense finale followed, but the Ambers dug deep brilliantly to get over the line and secure three valuable points - with centre-halves Rob Taberner and George Green immense throughout in keeping the league’s top goalscorer quiet all afternoon.
Thirds / Fourths / Vets / Sixths
Both the Thirds’ and Fourths’ CWFL fixtures were called off following the heavy rain during the week, and with no Vets game, next up were the Sixths - who were edged out 4–2 against Woolton Vets at Boughton Hall.
This week’s focus was on individual performances, with the squad putting in a committed display:
“Manny and Aaron shared the right-back role whilst at centre-back, Mark Stockton won everything, while Andy Baker organised superbly, and Philip stayed calm and composed throughout. Left-back Adam Palmer was his usual reliable self.
Midfield offered real quality: Stephen Cairns (also on loan from the Vets) kept the ball moving with simple, effective passing; Hibb found pockets of space on the right; captain Mark Johnson led by example, winning every challenge; Pete Tuma dictated play and scored a superb 25-yard strike; and Steve Wilson rarely lost possession, adding a worldie of his own - outside of the left boot, top corner, another brilliant team goal. Simon, with that cultured left foot, found space and linked play excellently.

Up top, Stewart showed technical quality and combined well with the midfield in the second half, while Marek – first name on the teamsheet – never stopped running, constantly asking questions of the opposition and creating chances.
In goal, Matt Booth took Man of the Match, commanding his area, making key saves and distributing well, all under the watchful eye of Marc cheering him on from the clubhouse bar.
Legends / Masters
Finally for this weekend, our Legends slipped to a 4-1 defeat on the road at Queens Park, travelling with a side blended from the Sixths, the Masters and the evergreen Tom Cairns. Nomads started superbly, dominating the opening stages and controlling possession on the 4G surface, but fell behind to a 30-yard strike.
A mis-hit cross that flew into the top corner made it 2–0, despite Nomads being the better side, before the returning Mike Sixsmith pulled one back with an excellent finish from the edge of the box.

The second half followed a similar pattern - Nomads playing much of the football, Queens Park taking their chances - and the game ended 4-1 to the hosts.
Man of the Match, as voted by Queens Park, went to Sixsmith for an outstanding display capped with a goal.
A weather-affected weekend still delivered plenty of effort, character and quality across the senior section, with the Seconds’ away victory providing the standout moment. The Ambers now look ahead to the final fixtures before Christmas, next weekend.
