Weekly Round-Up 31/01/26

Goals, Grunts, and "Dubious" Panels

It was a busy weekend for the Nomads, featuring everything from hat-tricks and "worldie" strikes to a 16-man Masters squad that actually showed up! Here’s how the action unfolded across the teams.

First Team: A Point Shared at Rainhill

Result: 2-2 Draw The 1sts headed to Rainhill for a tough away fixture. While a 2-2 draw felt slightly disappointing, the hosts earned their point with two of the finest goals seen in the West Cheshire league this season. Nomads' goals came courtesy of Ben Coward and Cam Clark.

  • MOTM: Rich Tomo. After six weeks on the sofa recovering from illness, he returned to the backline to do what he does best: defend brilliantly and moan at the lads.

Reserves: Clean Sheet & Chaos

Result: 2-0 Win vs. Mossley Hill Res. After a cagey start, the 2s took control at home. Connor Bagby broke the deadlock in the second half with a powerful solo run. The second goal was pure chaos—a Sandro Malletta delivery caused such a scramble that the "dubious goals panel" is still deliberating whether it belongs to Sandro, Connor, or the Mossley keeper.

  • Highlight: A massive three points and a disciplined team clean sheet.

The "Thunderthirds": Trey’s Triple Threat

Result: 5-0 Win at Hoole The 3s put on a clinic away at Hoole to move within touching distance of third place. Trey Lattie was the star of the show, bagging a clinical hat-trick. The scoring was rounded off by a spectacular 25-yard lob from Tim Ashbrook and a free-kick "rocket" from Loch Hardy.

  • MOTM: Joe Ritson. At this rate, he’s going to need a bigger trophy cabinet!

6ths: Digging In Against the Vets

Result: 7-1 Defeat vs. Vets (Jewsbury Cup) It was a tough afternoon at Boughton Hall against a high-flying Vets side. Despite the scoreline, the 6ths showed incredible heart. Andy Baker and Kenny marshalled the defense superbly against "Division Two" quality football, and Callum grabbed a well-worked consolation goal following a great switch from Hibb.

  • MOTM: Andy Baker. A tireless performance, covering an estimated 5 miles at the heart of the defense.

Masters: A Tale of Two Halves

Result: 3-2 Win vs. Liverpool Ramblers History was made before kickoff as the Masters boasted 16 available players! They raced into a 3-0 halftime lead with goals from Gunner, Fitzy, and Hayden Evans. The second half was a bit more "nervous 90s" as Ramblers clawed back to 3-2, but the Nomads held firm.

  • MOTM: Matt Edge. An "imperious" display at left-back.

  • Spirit of the Game: Huge thanks to Liverpool Ramblers for the match and the post-game pints—true Corinthian spirit from one of the country's oldest clubs.
