Cup Final Heartache

A large crowd gathered at Boughton Hall to watch the last ever CDFA challenge cup final. The weather was perfect, the pitch was just as good and both sides were primed and ready to go.

Nomads took the lead in the first half with a low strike by Kyle Smythe,

Into the break at 1-0 to Nomads.

The second half started and only 10 minutes in a wonder strike by Charlie Jones saw us go 2-0 ahead.

Slowly but surely Newton started to claw their way back into the game and it was soon 2-1 with a classic counter-attack goal. With 15 minutes to go Newton made it 2-2 and despite pushing for the winner Nomads couldn't break down the Newton defence

No extra time so straight onto the lottery of penalties and Newton eventually came out on top 10-9. Defeat is a bitter pill to swallow for a team that dominated the game for the most part but congratulations to Newton on their win

Joe Cossins boys can be proud of themselves for their performance and the fact that the Newton keeper won MOTM says it all.

Onwards and upwards for next season
