Goals galore in stalemate at Heron Eccles

After a good win the week prior at Maghull, the 1st XI took another trip over the Runcorn Bridge to Heron Eccles soccer centre to face a good Marshalls team.

Unfortunately, Matty Pierce, Spencer Postles and James Lanni were unavailable from the previous week but returning to the squad were Louis Moss and Cal Jones and new signing Gabriel Carballo.

Due to a few absentees the team had a few changes to the starting XI.

Jack Minshull continued in goal, with Cal Jones slotting in at right back. George Stockton kept his place at left full back with Dan Delgado and big Dave finishing off the back 4.

Louis Moss came in alongside Steve in midfield allowing Hugo to move further forward.

Sandro came in on the right hand side after his goal last week with Brandon and Ben finishing the front 3 off.

Every fixture in this division is difficult but heading to a team who are very good at keeping the ball in 35 degree heat was never going to be easy.

The lads started off well though with Sandro getting in behind the left back a number of times and creating good opportunities.

Unfortunately, the lads were unable to take advantage of the good possession and ended up entering half time 1-0 down conceding against the run of play.

Half time 1-0 Marshalls

Nomads started the second half much brighter and quickly got back on level terms, Big Dave sent Captain Cowhead down the left wing who laid the ball to Brandon for the keeper to make a good save but the rebound fell to the skipper to roll the ball home.

1-1 - Ben Coward

Nomads began to create more chances and have the better of the ball in the heat but soon found themselves 2-1 down as Marshalls counter attacked well and slotted a curved the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box past Minsh.

2-1 Marshalls

Nomads quickly tried to redeem themselves and some good play between Hugo, Sandro and Ben going forward won the lads a free kick on the edge of the box which Hugooo stepped up and buried in the far corner.

2-2 - Hugo Baretto-Eames

In the sweltering conditions Nomads made couple of substitutes with Eddie Stockton replacing Louis Moss in the middle and Gabe Carballo slotting in at full back for George Stockton and both were soon involved in the build up to give Nomads the lead with some good play down the left flank for Ben to get in behind and pull the ball back to Eddie Stockton to roll the ball home.

3-2 Nomads - Eddie Stockon

Nomads had the better of the ball in the last 5 and created a few good chances to try and out the game out of sightwith the best falling to Brandon who when one on one with the keeper tried to dink the encroaching keeper to see the ball come back off the fence behind the goal.

The Marshalls keeper then cleared with a long ball to see the winger deliver a good cross field ball to their striker to slide it home in the final seconds of the game.

3-3

Disappointing finish for the lads in what felt like defeat after coming from behind twice in burning temperatures, but a well earned point nevertheless.

The lads will look to put things right as they face Vauxhall Motor reserves in their first home game of the season on Tuesday evening.
