Simple mistakes cost Nomads in first home game of season

Off the back of some decent performances to start the season Nomads returned to Boughton Hall to face Vauxhall Motor reserves in their first home game of the 2022/23 campaign.

A couple of changes from the weekend saw Matty Pierce and Andrew Watkins both involved from the start.

Big Dave slotted back to right back with Louis Moss coming in at LB. Matty Pierce and Dan Delgado slotted back in at centre half.

Watko joined Steve in midfield and the same front 4 of Hugo, Sandro, Ben and Brandon completed the starting XI.

The game was pretty tight first half with both teams struggling to get the ball down on a very hard pitch.

Unfortunately not long in to the game, Brandon hobbled off the pitch after again seemingly to disturb his hamstring injury.

A soft free kick was given on the half hour mark to Vauxhalls, who lofted the ball to the back stick for a free header for their tall full back.

Nomads starting to build themselves back in to the game with some good link up play between the front four but Nomads failed to pull the trigger and test the Vauxhall keeper.

Not long before half time, Nomads found themselves level from a set piece of their own as Louis Moss whipped in a corner on to the head of Ben Coward.

Half time 1-1

Nomads started the second half slowly and again falling asleep at a simple set piece soon found themselves 2-1 down.

A good third for Vauxhalls left Nomads chasing the game in the last 20 minutes.

2 soft sending offs, 1 for each team left the game wide open and Vauxhalls managed to create a few chances late on scoring 2 goals in the last 5 minutes.

A well deserved victory for Vauxhalls and a bad day at the office for the Nomads lads.

On to Friday now as Nomads face Ellesmere Port Town at home.
