Weekly Round Up 17/01/26

FIRSTS

Big big win when not being at our best for the firsts today, 1-1 in the game 4-2 win on pens. Wouldn’t have been possible without the best keeper in the league Andy Metcalf, unbelievable goalkeeper who we are lucky to have!

Joe Coossin's celebrates his 3rd season as manager with a 3rd semi final - great stuff Joe! 👍🏼

3RDS

Not the result we were looking for. First game back in the New Year and first game in a month for us. Started strong and dominated the first half - great footballing move saw us go 1-0 up with a tidy finish from Tim Ashbrook but a mistake at the back in the closing minutes of the half meant we went into the break 1-1.

Didn’t start at all in the 2nd half and quickly found ourselves 3-1 down. Clinical penalty from Macaulay Salter got us back in the game with 15 to go but not enough time on the clock for us to draw level.

Disappointing result to knock us out the cup but some good football played today with plenty of positives. All eyes on the league now.

6THS

The 6ths welcomed West Kirby vets to Boughton Hall and played their part in a 4-4 thriller marshalled expertly by a young referee Harry Harrison.

Having played excellent football in the first 20 minutes we were countered for the first goal, nevertheless we kept our composure and deserved our 2 goals before halftime. Simon from the penalty spot and Steve Wilson with a cheeky drag back in the box to create the necessary space to shoot goalwards. The first half was a superb display of composed passing/movement intelligent football. Marek, in his new centre midfield role was fantastic throughout. Defensively solid throughout with Richy in goal (big thanks).

We had a new kid on the bloc today, Kenny's nephew James who is almost a vet so we'll sign him up 🤔. A wonderful footballer and a really good fella, like his uncle Mike 😜

Second half started and the crowd (Al Mowatt) had seen enough and was last seen walking to the bar. Simon hit a ridiculous 40 yard shot/lob. He definitely meant it. He followed it up with a poorly struck penalty kick which went through the keeper, 4-1 up.

Thought I'd get involved in the game, gave Richy some deserved game time outfield and I went in goal. In fairness I saved 3 of the 6 shots that were hit at me. The less said about the other 3 the better 😜

We had a number of chances to nick it and probably should have but what a game of football. My man of the match is Steve Wilson, covers everywhere, sorry to the other 10 as they deserved motm too. On to next week.....

MASTERS

After missing the last two weeks due to other commitments, gaffer Chris Bain returned to the sidelines. What a treat it was to be back!

MOM: Mark Abbott
MOM: Mark Abbott

Despite taking the lead in the first 5 minutes against Wirral Vets we somehow managed to capitulate and come in at half time 2-1 down. The positive half time team talk of ‘that was dreadful!’ failed to inspire the troops.

The second half wasn’t much better, despite getting back to 2-2 we managed to lose 4-2.

2 shouts for MOTM, Neil Barnes was great in goals but the award goes to Mark Abbott, imperious in defence. Start again next week and hope for a better performance and result.
